First choose what “play new videos at midnight” means: make one upload public at midnight, debut it as a shared event, or add it to a continuous prerecorded livestream. YouTube Studio’s scheduled publishing handles the first; a Premiere handles the second. Neither creates a 24/7 broadcast. For a continuous YouTube stream that plays uploaded videos, use a separate streaming workflow or hosted service.

Schedule a video to become public at midnight
Use this when viewers should find an ordinary published video at the selected time, without a countdown or continuous live channel. YouTube Studio lets you schedule a private video to become public on a chosen date and time.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Create > Upload videos.
- Choose the video file and complete the upload details and required checks.
- On the Visibility step, select Schedule.
- Choose the date, time and time zone for publication, then save or schedule the video.
- Review the scheduled entry in Studio and confirm the selected time zone and expected publication date.
Check the date shown to viewers: YouTube says the date on a video’s watch page is based on Pacific Standard Time (PST). The date displayed there can differ from the date shown in Studio when the selected schedule time zone is ahead of PST. Verify the schedule’s time zone and the date viewers are expected to see; do not assume every viewer or creator interprets “midnight” in the same zone. See YouTube Help’s Schedule video publish time.

Schedule a Premiere for a midnight debut
Choose a Premiere if the point is for viewers to arrive together for one new video. The scheduled public watch page is available in advance, where viewers can set reminders, comment and chat. At the scheduled start, the countdown begins; viewers then watch together in real time. When the Premiere ends, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload.
- In YouTube Studio, start an upload and complete the video details.
- On the Visibility step, choose Schedule.
- Set the date, time and time zone for the event.
- Select Set as Premiere, then schedule it.
- Share the public watch page ahead of time so viewers can set reminders.
YouTube’s Premiere guidance excludes Shorts and says 360/vr180 videos or output above 1080p are not supported. A Community Guidelines strike during a penalty period can also keep a Premiere private, requiring you to reschedule it. Check YouTube Help’s current instructions at Premiere a new video.

Run a continuous prerecorded stream that includes new videos
A 24/7 stream is a distinct production workflow: a video source must keep transmitting to YouTube, and something must decide which prerecorded videos play and when. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes scheduled broadcasts and a separate liveStream resource for the stream being transmitted. Its broadcast lifecycle guide explains that, when the relevant automatic-start and automatic-stop properties are enabled, YouTube starts a broadcast when transmission begins and ends it about a minute after transmission stops. These API resources describe broadcast control and lifecycle; they do not turn a channel’s upload queue into an automatic, continuously playing schedule.
You can build a do-it-yourself workflow with streaming software or an API integration, but it needs a playback source and a reliable connection to YouTube for the broadcast to continue. You must manage the playlist or transitions so the new prerecorded video starts at the intended midnight in the intended time zone. Those are the vendor’s own claims, not independent verification of reliability or of whether its scheduling controls fit a particular queue. If you want a live event immediately before a Premiere, YouTube’s Live Redirect can send viewers from the ended live stream to the Premiere. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live streaming by verifying the account at least 24 hours before the first planned stream. The Live Redirect guide says the Premiere auto-plays once the live stream has ended, so schedule the live stream to end before the Premiere starts—for example, at 11:59 for a noon Premiere. Troubleshoot the midnight schedule
- The video did not become public: Check its Studio visibility and scheduled time. If there is a Community Guidelines strike penalty, YouTube may keep it private; reschedule after the penalty freeze period.
- The watch-page date looks one day early or late: Check the time zone selected in Studio and account for YouTube’s PST-based watch-page date display.
- Viewers do not see a countdown or event page: Confirm that Set as Premiere was selected. A scheduled upload without that option is a regular scheduled publication.
- The Premiere cannot be scheduled for this video: Check whether it is a Short, 360/vr180, or above 1080p output; YouTube’s Premiere help page lists these as unsupported.
- The live broadcast does not keep playing: A scheduled upload or Premiere cannot supply a continuous stream. For an API-based broadcast, verify the broadcast and stream resources and lifecycle settings, and make sure transmission from the playback source is still reaching YouTube.
- The new video does not start at midnight in a hosted playlist: Check the service’s actual queue and scheduling controls, the playlist order, and the time zone. A service’s general 24/7 claim does not establish that it supports the exact changeover you need.
