Short answer: YouTube’s documented Live Redirect can send viewers from a finished live stream to one selected Premiere, but the official instructions do not describe an automatic handoff from a live playlist to a playlist of multiple Premieres. To run prerecorded programming continuously, an encoder or streaming service must send a feed to YouTube; schedule the Premiere separately and configure it as the live stream’s redirect destination.
What YouTube can—and cannot—schedule for this handoff
YouTube treats the scheduled live event, the transmitted video feed, and the redirect destination as separate things. Live Control Room schedules the event; an encoder or streaming service sends the audio and video using YouTube’s server URL and stream key; Live Redirect points the audience from the source live stream to a selected destination video. The YouTube Live Streaming API likewise distinguishes live broadcasts from the live streams that carry transmitted content.
- Documented: after a live stream ends, viewers can be sent to one selected Premiere or another live stream. YouTube says the Premiere can autoplay on the same watch page.
- Not documented in the reviewed official instructions: a live playlist automatically handing viewers to a playlist of multiple Premieres, or a chain that automatically redirects through subsequent Premieres. A YouTube playlist may organize videos for viewers, but do not rely on it as an automatic post-live queue.
- Practical alternative: keep a continuous encoder-fed program running for the 24/7 channel, and use Live Redirect as a separate handoff to one Premiere when that is the intended endpoint.
YouTube’s instructions say the audience may need about two seconds for the watch page to reload after the live stream ends and the redirect occurs. Ask viewers to remain on that page rather than refresh or leave. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

- Schedule the Premiere first. Make sure the video is eligible and schedule it for the intended time. YouTube recommends creating the destination Premiere before setting up Live Redirect.
- Schedule the source live event. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Reuse prior settings or create new ones as appropriate. Scheduling creates the event page; it does not supply the program feed.
- Connect the feed. Configure your encoder or streaming service with the YouTube server URL and stream key. Start the encoder, check the preview in Live Control Room, and select Go live when ready unless you have configured and verified auto-start. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Choose the redirect destination. In YouTube Studio’s Live videos/Content area or from Live Control Room, edit the source live stream, select the Premiere as its Live Redirect destination, and save. The official Live Redirect to Premieres guide describes selecting a source live stream and destination Premiere.
- End the source stream before the Premiere’s scheduled start. YouTube’s guide says the Premiere follows the end of the live stream and uses the same watch page. Coordinate the end time with the Premiere schedule.
- Prepare viewers for the transition. Tell viewers to stay on the watch page. Allow a short reload; YouTube Help estimates about two seconds, though individual viewer experience can vary.
Build the continuous 24/7 prerecorded feed
A 24/7 channel needs an encoder or streaming service that continues sending the program to YouTube. A YouTube event by itself is not a player for a playlist. Choose the feed method based on who will operate it and whether it can schedule prerecorded files in the exact way you need.

- Local encoder or software: You control the machine and feed, but must keep the system, network connection, and encoder running and respond to failures.
- Cloud streaming service: The provider runs the feed remotely. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre and Upstream as examples of cloud-based 24/7 streaming tools; verify current features and whether a service supports the schedule and handoff you intend.
- Dedicated hardware: YouTube’s guide names the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live. Confirm current availability, firmware behavior, and whether it fits your exact schedule before relying on it.
These are categories and examples, not a YouTube ranking or confirmation that any one tool supports an automatic sequence of multiple Premieres. Check the provider’s current workflow for start times, stop behavior, recovery, and transitions. YouTube’s encoder guide lists the cited options.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a continuous 24/7 broadcast, do not assume that a longer stream will be archived as one uninterrupted video under that rule. Decide whether the archive behavior matters to your channel and plan the broadcast accordingly.

Where the playlist requirement changes the plan
If by “live playlist” you mean a sequence of prerecorded items sent as one continuous live feed, build that sequence in the encoder or streaming service, then send the feed to YouTube. If by “premiere playlist” you mean multiple separate Premieres that should begin one after another automatically when the live feed ends, YouTube’s documented Live Redirect flow does not establish that behavior. Its documented destination is one selected video.
For a single Premiere, use the steps above. For multiple Premieres, avoid promising an automatic playlist-to-playlist handoff unless your chosen system’s current documentation or a verified workflow establishes it. You can instead arrange a continuous encoder-fed program, or handle later transitions separately. The official redirect instructions do not specify a reliable procedure for chaining subsequent Premieres.
