To schedule a 24/7 radio livestream on YouTube, create a scheduled encoder event in YouTube Studio, then send a continuous audio feed to it from an encoder. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not generate or maintain the radio signal. For an uninterrupted station page, plan for an encoder that stays connected and someone or something to monitor it.

Understand what YouTube schedules

YouTube treats the scheduled broadcast and the incoming stream as separate resources. The broadcast is the event and watch page; the stream is the feed sent by your encoder. A broadcast is bound to a stream, and YouTube documents using a continuous 24/7 feed alongside separate broadcasts for events such as interviews. See YouTube’s liveBroadcasts documentation.

Choose the arrangement that matches how you want listeners to find the station:

  • One continuous station page: Use a continuous feed if listeners should tune in at one persistent URL.
  • Separate scheduled programs: Create individual broadcasts if shows need their own event pages, titles, or promotion.
  • A continuous feed plus special events: YouTube documents this pattern; it lets a channel keep a 24/7 feed while scheduling a distinct broadcast for a program such as an interview. The best choice depends on your publishing needs.

Schedule the radio livestream in YouTube Studio

1. Check channel readiness and open Live Control Room

Sign in to YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live. Choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s current help pages explain how to create a live stream with an encoder and how to schedule a live stream. Available access and interface details can change, so follow the prompts shown for your channel.

2. Create the scheduled event

In the scheduling flow, enter the event title, scheduled start time, and privacy setting, then save the broadcast. These are among the fields used to create a scheduled broadcast. Decide whether the event should be public, unlisted, or private based on who should be able to find it and when. A scheduled start time is not a substitute for starting the encoder.

3. Copy the YouTube ingest details into your encoder

Open the event’s stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key into your encoder. The server URL tells the encoder where to send data; the stream key identifies the channel’s incoming feed. YouTube warns that stream keys are like a password and address: keep yours private, and reset it in Live Control Room if you believe it has been exposed. Do not paste it into public notes, chat, or screenshots.

YouTube’s encoder guidance covers connecting an encoder and configuring its stream: Set up your encoder for live streaming. For radio, provide a stable audio feed in a format the encoder and YouTube accept. YouTube’s live settings guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio and explains that incoming streams are transcoded for viewer devices; it does not set a radio-specific bitrate in the cited guidance. Check the current YouTube live encoder settings rather than relying on an unsupported universal bitrate recommendation.

4. Test privately before going public

Before the public transmission, confirm the audio reaches Live Control Room and listen for silence, clipping, unexpected interruptions, or the wrong source. The YouTube API lifecycle guide says a private test phase requires monitor-stream preview enabled and auto-start disabled. In Studio, preview the incoming feed and check access to both the channel and watch page. YouTube’s live streaming tips also recommend previewing and monitoring audio and video.

5. Start the encoder and confirm the event is live

Start the encoder so it sends the feed, then wait for the preview or stream-health indication in Live Control Room. Begin the scheduled event according to the auto-start setting you chose. Auto-start and auto-stop control event behavior; neither creates a feed or keeps an encoder running. If the event does not go live, verify the encoder is connected and that the correct stream key and server URL are in use.

Keep the feed running and decide how to handle latency, DVR, and archives

Continuous operation and monitoring

A scheduled page can remain listed while the encoder feed is absent or interrupted. A true 24/7 station therefore needs a continuously running encoder and operational monitoring. Check the feed after launch and at intervals that fit your operation; a remote listener or monitoring setup can help catch silence or a dropped connection. YouTube’s documentation describes a 24/7 feed use case, but does not guarantee that an encoder or network connection will remain uninterrupted.

Latency and DVR

Lower latency can make audience interaction more immediate, but may affect buffering or playback smoothness. For a radio feed without live audience interaction, prioritize stable playback over an unnecessarily aggressive latency target. YouTube’s live settings guidance explains latency options. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during the stream; enable it if that behavior suits the station and its programming.

Plan archives separately

YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise a complete automatic archive for one transmission lasting 24 hours or longer. If replay is important, record the audio separately or plan shorter broadcast segments, then check YouTube’s current live stream archiving guidance before relying on a platform archive.

Studio scheduling or API automation?

Studio is the direct option when you are manually scheduling a broadcast. For repeatable workflows or software integration, developers can use the YouTube Live Streaming API to create a scheduled broadcast, create a live stream with ingestion settings, bind the resources, and move the broadcast through its testing, live, and completed states.

Copyright, reused content, and monetization considerations

Make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast every recording in the radio feed. A YouTube live stream can be interrupted or restricted if it includes content you are not authorized to use. YouTube’s live streaming restrictions explain relevant platform rules. Do not assume that a playlist is safe to stream simply because its tracks are available online or because a prior upload remained available.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Monetization controls, including ad and mid-roll options, do not make a channel eligible for monetization. Automated ads depend on channel eligibility, and a 24/7 format does not guarantee that ads will be served. Review the controls available to your channel in Studio and YouTube’s current monetization requirements before planning revenue around a broadcast.

Troubleshoot common scheduling and feed problems

  • The watch page exists, but there is no audio: The event may be scheduled without an incoming encoder feed. Start the encoder, verify its audio input, and check the preview in Live Control Room.
  • The encoder cannot connect: Recheck the server URL and stream key copied from the correct event. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
  • The event does not start at the scheduled time: Confirm the encoder is sending the stream and check the auto-start setting. A schedule alone does not start the feed.
  • Playback stutters or buffers: Check stream health and connection stability. If the broadcast does not require real-time interaction, avoid choosing a lower-latency mode without a reason.
  • The archive is incomplete or missing: A 24/7 session is longer than YouTube Help’s stated under-12-hour automatic-archive scope. Keep a separate recording or use shorter segments when a complete replay matters.
  • Listeners report copyrighted audio or a restriction: Review rights for every track and consult YouTube’s live streaming rules; remove or replace material you are not authorized to broadcast.

Optional: the computer running the encoder

If you operate the encoder yourself, the computer and its internet connection must remain available for the feed to continue. The YouTube guidance cited here does not specify a minimum computer model or hardware requirement for a basic radio setup, so choose equipment based on the encoder you use and the audio workflow you need rather than assuming a particular specification is required.
