Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsMend can scan Infrastructure as Code (IaC) from its CLI or through repository integrations. The CLI command is mend iac <path>; repository integrations surface findings as Mend IaC Checks and can create issues with violation details and remediation guidance. Choose the CLI when you need direct control over paths and report handling, or an integration when you want feedback in a repository workflow before infrastructure is deployed.
What Mend IaC scans do
Mend describes its CLI IaC engine as analyzing configuration files to identify missing or misconfigured variables. It reports findings for configuration that may be insecure or fail to meet best practices; it is a configuration review, not proof that a deployed environment is secure. Mend documents IaC scanning as part of its broader AppSec platform, alongside software composition analysis, code, container, and AI security capabilities.
Results can appear in the terminal or as saved reports when using the CLI. In supported repository integrations, findings appear as Mend IaC Checks, and configured workflows can create issues with violation details and guidance for addressing them.
Choose between the CLI and a repository integration
| Consideration | Mend CLI | GitHub or Azure Repos integration |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Locally or in a CI workflow, against a path you specify. | In a connected repository workflow; exact triggers depend on the integration and its configuration. |
| Frameworks listed in documentation | Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Kubernetes YAML, Helm, and Dockerfiles. | GitHub Enterprise configuration lists Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation, Kubernetes, ARM Templates, Serverless, and Helm. GitHub.com and Azure Repos documentation describes integration behavior; confirm supported file types for your specific setup. |
| Feedback | Terminal findings and report/export options, including local operation. | Mend IaC Checks; violations can also become repository issues with details and guidance, where configured. |
| Branch and trigger control | Set the path and invoke the command where it fits your workflow. | Configure the relevant base branch or branches and ensure valid repository activity triggers scans. |
| Best fit | Explicit scan scope, report handling, and offline/local controls. | Pull request or commit feedback and issue-based remediation in the repository. |
Do not assume that every framework listed for one Mend integration is available in another. Check coverage against the files in the target repository and the specific product configuration.

Run an IaC scan with the Mend CLI
- Initialize the CLI. Follow Mend’s CLI setup and authentication instructions so the command can access the intended organization.
- Scan a folder. From the appropriate working environment, run
mend iac my-folder, replacingmy-folderwith the directory containing the IaC files. The scan analyzes the configuration and returns finding metadata such as severity and details. - Choose result handling. Use the configuration options
--filenameand--formatto name and format a report. For local or offline handling, the reference documents--localand--export-results. - Optionally update an application. To update a Mend application from a saved result, the configuration reference documents
--updatewith--file. If you do not set a scope, Mend places results in the logged-in organization, a default application named “My IAC Application,” and a project named after the scanned folder.
Consult Mend’s [CLI IaC guide](https://docs.mend.io/cli/latest/iac) and [CLI configuration reference](https://docs.mend.io/cli/latest/configuration) for the exact supported options and current syntax before adding the command to automation.
Enable repository checks and route violations
GitHub.com
Mend’s GitHub.com workflow begins with a repository onboarding pull request containing configuration. After setup, scanning runs on the default or base branch. Each valid commit can create a Mend IaC Check. Violations can generate GitHub Issues containing details and best-practice guidance. Review the integration’s branch configuration and decide whether issues should be created as part of the remediation workflow.

Azure Repos
Mend describes Azure Repos IaC review as a pre-deployment check that produces a Mend IaC Check and can generate issues for violations. Scan initiation depends on valid push activity and the integration’s configuration, so verify those conditions when checks do not appear.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Make findings actionable before provisioning
- Run early: Place the scan near the pull request or other pre-deployment review point, so a configuration issue can be corrected before provisioning.
- Set the right scope: For the CLI, choose the directory that contains the infrastructure configuration. For repository integrations, check which repositories and base branches are enabled.
- Choose a remediation route: Decide whether developers should act on the Mend IaC Check, generated issues, or both, according to the available integration settings and team workflow.
- Investigate missing feedback: Check that the push or commit is valid for the integration, the relevant base branch is configured, and IaC checks are enabled.
- Use findings as review signals: Assess each reported violation in context and apply the supplied guidance; a clean scan does not replace deployment controls or review of the resulting infrastructure.
Mend’s public material cited here does not establish a universal policy threshold or a single behavior for blocking deployments. Whether a finding fails a check or stops a deployment depends on the configured workflow; validate that behavior in the repository or CI system rather than assuming a scan automatically blocks provisioning.
What Mend IaC scanning costs
Mend’s 2025 pricing page lists Mend AppSec at “Up to $1,000 per dev/per year” and describes pricing on a contributing-developer basis. That is a published ceiling or marketing figure, not a universal quote for IaC scanning or a guaranteed price for a particular team. Confirm current terms, scope, and pricing directly with Mend. The pricing page describes AppSec as covering secure code, dependencies, containers, and AI components; it does not establish a separate IaC-only price.
