To save a reusable phrase on Samsung Keyboard, create a text shortcut: open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > More typing options > Text shortcuts, tap +, enter a trigger and its expanded phrase, then tap Add. When you type the trigger later, tap the suggested phrase in the predictive text bar to insert it.
If you mean getting the keyboard to remember an unusual word, that works differently: Samsung Keyboard may learn a word after you type it and tap the space bar, then suggest it next time.
How to add a text shortcut for a phrase
- Open Settings on your Galaxy device.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Tap More typing options, then Text shortcuts.
- Tap +.
- Enter a short trigger and the full phrase it should suggest, then tap Add.
- In a text field that uses Samsung Keyboard, type the trigger. When the expanded phrase appears in the predictive text bar, tap it to insert it.
A text shortcut is a manually defined trigger-to-phrase pair. Typing the trigger brings up the expansion as a suggestion; Samsung’s instructions say to tap the suggestion, so do not expect the phrase to replace the trigger automatically. Samsung describes Text shortcuts as a way to make frequently used phrases easier to enter (Samsung US; Samsung Canada).
How to make Samsung Keyboard remember a word
For an uncommon name or term, type the word and tap the space bar. Samsung says the keyboard may learn it and offer it as a suggestion the next time you type it. This creates a learned prediction, not a shortcut with a chosen trigger and full phrase (Samsung UK).

Text shortcuts and learned words: which should you use?

How to remove a saved word or shortcut
Remove one learned word
Type until the word appears in the suggestion bar, press and hold its suggestion, then confirm removal when prompted.
Delete a text shortcut
Return to Text shortcuts in Samsung Keyboard settings and delete the shortcut entry you no longer want.

Clear learned predictions
Samsung UK lists Reset to default settings > Erase personalised predictions for clearing learned predictions. Other Samsung guidance uses labels such as Clear personalised data; the wording depends on the software version (Samsung UK).
What to do if the menu path is different
The route above comes from Samsung UK guidance updated 5 June 2026. Samsung notes that menus can differ and some options may not be available on older devices or operating systems. If the labels do not match, open the Samsung Keyboard settings from the keyboard’s settings icon, or look for Smart typing or Text shortcuts. These instructions apply to Samsung Keyboard, not a third-party keyboard (Samsung Mexico).

Text shortcuts versus other typing settings
Predictive text suggests words as you type. Auto replace can substitute a typed word when you accept the change with the space bar or Enter. These options affect general typing, but a custom phrase expansion belongs in Text shortcuts (Samsung US).
