The quickest route is to use your browser’s Print → Save to PDF workflow and inspect the preview. If the 3D model disappears or changes in the print layout, capture the model’s on-screen view as an image and place that image in a PDF. Either method creates a static document, not a 3D viewer you can rotate; keep the website URL if someone will need to interact with the model.
Choose between a page document and a model snapshot
Start by deciding what the PDF needs to preserve. Browser printing is usually better for readable page text and a conventional document. A screenshot-based PDF is better when a particular model angle or rendered view matters more than selectable text and page layout.

Save the page with your browser’s Print command
- Open the page and wait. Let the page and model load, then set the model to the view you want. If it animates or loads assets progressively, wait until the scene is settled.
- Open Print. Use the browser menu’s Print command or its print shortcut, then select Save to PDF or the equivalent destination.
- Inspect the preview before saving. Check whether the 3D canvas, surrounding text, colors, and background appear as expected. Web pages can use a different layout for paper than for the screen. Firefox’s print guidance describes preview and controls such as paper orientation, page selection, scale, margins, and print backgrounds.
- Adjust the print settings if needed. If a background or color is absent, enable the print-background option if your browser offers it. If the model area is too wide, try landscape orientation or a different scale. These settings can improve layout, but they cannot guarantee that a script-rendered 3D canvas will print.
- Save and check the resulting PDF. Reopen it to verify the pages and model view. If the canvas is missing or unusable, switch to the screenshot method below.
Make a PDF from a screenshot when the model is missing
- Set the scene. Return to the page, choose the model angle and zoom to preserve, and wait for the desired state to render.
- Capture the page or model element. Use your browser’s screenshot feature or developer tools. Firefox DevTools documents both full-page and element screenshots; the available controls vary by browser. Firefox DevTools screenshot guide
- Turn the image into a PDF. Place it in a document and export or print that document to PDF, or use software that saves captures as PDFs. - Label multiple views. If one angle does not explain the model, capture more than one and label each view in the document.
A screenshot records pixels, so it will not retain the model’s controls or make the model rotatable. Keep the original URL with the PDF when recipients may need the live page.
Automate PDF or screenshot capture with Chrome Headless

chrome --headless --print-to-pdf https://developer.chrome.com/Replace the URL with the target page. For a screenshot, Chrome documents the --screenshot option. Its command-line documentation also describes --timeout and --virtual-time-budget: a timeout can end the wait and capture while a page is still loading, while a virtual-time budget advances time-dependent code. Neither option confirms that a 3D model has reached the desired state. Allow the page to load and arrange the scene before capture; do not treat elapsed time alone as proof of readiness. To omit PDF headers and footers, the current documented flag is --no-pdf-header-footer. Older Chrome versions may require the earlier flag name --print-to-pdf-no-header. For protocol-based automation, Page.printToPDF exposes controls including orientation, margins, scale, and whether to display headers and footers. Troubleshoot common capture problems
- The model is absent from the PDF. Print preview may use a paper-specific layout or omit the rendered canvas. Capture the visible view as an image instead; check that the model is visible before you take the screenshot.
- The model is only partly visible. Try landscape orientation or adjust the print scale. If the widget still clips, capture the model element or a screenshot of the desired area and place it in a PDF.
- Colors or backgrounds are missing. Check the print-background setting in the print dialog. A browser’s print styling can still differ from the screen even with that option enabled.
- The screenshot shows a loading state. Wait for the page and model assets to finish loading, then set the desired view and capture again. In automated Chrome captures, a timeout is only a maximum wait, not a readiness check. Chrome Headless documentation
- The PDF looks right but cannot rotate the model. That is expected for a PDF made from print output or captured pixels. Share the original page URL for live interaction.
