In Chrome on desktop, open DevTools’ Command Menu and run Capture full size screenshot. For just the visible screen, choose the browser’s visible-area option instead.
Choose the right kind of capture
A full-page screenshot captures the webpage beyond the part currently visible on screen and saves it as an image. A viewport screenshot captures only what you can currently see. Some tools also let you select a region or an individual page element.
- Use a full-page PNG for a visual record, design review, or sharing how a page looks.
- Use a visible-area capture when you need only the current screen or a particular section.
- Use a PDF instead when selectable text, links, or printing matter more than a pixel-for-pixel image.
The steps below use built-in desktop browser features. Exact availability and labels can vary with browser version and platform.
Save a full webpage as PNG in Firefox
Firefox offers a direct screenshot workflow without opening Developer Tools.

- Open the page and allow its main content to render.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page to capture the complete document. Choose Save visible for the current viewport, or drag a region or select a detected page part for a partial capture.
- Click Download. Firefox saves the image with a
.pngextension.
If the right-click menu does not show Take Screenshot, try the shortcut. For more control over an element or capture settings, use Firefox Developer Tools as described below.
Save a full webpage as PNG in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S, or open Edge’s Screenshot tool.
- Choose Capture full page to include content below the current viewport. Choose an area instead if you only need part of the page.
- Use the save control to download the image, or the copy control to place it on the clipboard. Edge also offers pen or touch markup before saving.
If the shortcut does not open the tool on your device, find Screenshot in Edge’s browser controls. The available controls can differ across versions.
Save a full webpage as PNG in Google Chrome
Chrome’s desktop full-page capture is available through DevTools. It is a little less direct than Firefox’s page menu, but it does not require a screenshot extension.
- Open the page and wait for its images and other visible content to appear.
- Open DevTools with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows or Linux, or Command+Option+I on macOS.
- Open the DevTools Command Menu with Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on macOS.
- Type screenshot and select Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves the full-page capture as a PNG.
To capture one component rather than the whole page, use the related Capture node screenshot command. Select the relevant page node in DevTools first, then run the command from the Command Menu.
Capture an element or use Firefox’s advanced controls
For a repeatable or element-level capture, Firefox Developer Tools exposes additional options.

- Open Developer Tools and go to Settings > Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Use the screenshot icon to capture the page. Firefox places the resulting file in the browser’s Downloads directory.
Firefox’s Web Console also supports a command-line capture:

The command supports options for a delay, device-pixel ratio, CSS selector, and forcing a file output. For example, the selector option can target an element rather than the full document. Check the command’s available options in your Firefox Developer Tools before relying on a particular option syntax; the exact flags for those options are not specified here.
Get a more complete capture
A full-page screenshot is not always identical to a page you could print or save as a document. Content that appears only after scrolling, content inside a separate scrolling panel, and highly dynamic pages can result in missing or inconsistent parts of the image.

- Scroll through the page once before capturing so content that loads as you scroll has a chance to appear.
- Wait for images and interactive elements to settle, then take the screenshot.
- Inspect the PNG at its top, middle, and bottom before sharing or publishing it.
- If the page has fixed headers, animations, cookie banners, or cross-origin embeds, check whether they obscure or alter the result. A second capture or manual editing may be needed.
Elements in separate scrolling containers may not be part of the document’s normal full-page height. If one is important, try capturing that section separately or use a tool that can target an element.

The screenshot cuts off content below the fold
Confirm that you chose Save full page, Capture full page, or Capture full size screenshot, rather than a visible-area option. If the capture still omits content, scroll through the page first and wait for lazy-loaded images or other scroll-triggered content to appear.

A panel or embedded section is missing
Some pages place content in a separate scrolling panel instead of the main document. Scroll within that panel and capture it separately if needed. Cross-origin embeds may also behave differently from ordinary page content; inspect the saved PNG and consider a separate capture.
The image includes a banner, popup, or changing animation
Wait for the page to settle and capture again. If the unwanted item persists, use an element or region capture where available, or edit the image afterward. Browser screenshots capture what the page renders at capture time; they do not automatically create a clean or static version of a dynamic page.

The shortcut does nothing
Use the browser’s menu instead: Firefox’s page context menu has Take Screenshot, while Edge has a Screenshot tool. In Chrome, open DevTools and use its Command Menu. Shortcuts can vary by operating system, browser version, or existing keyboard bindings.
The result is not a PNG
Check the downloaded filename and extension. Firefox’s documented download uses .png, and Chrome’s full-size screenshot command saves PNG. If using an extension or an API, choose PNG explicitly in that tool’s settings or request parameters rather than relying on a default format.
When PDF is a better choice
A PNG is a flat image: text is represented as pixels, so selecting or searching for words in the image is not the same as using a document. Choose the browser’s PDF workflow when text, links, or print layout are more important than preserving the page as a picture. A full-page screenshot is the better fit when the visual appearance itself is the record you need.
