To save a web page as a JPEG, capture it as a screenshot, then save or convert the image to JPEG. In Firefox, right-click an empty part of the page, choose Take Screenshot, select Save full page, and download the PNG; open that PNG in an image editor and export a JPEG copy. Firefox’s documented screenshot download is PNG, not JPEG. If you only need the visible screen, choose Save visible instead.
Choose the right kind of file first
A screenshot records how a page is rendered on screen as an image. It is the right approach when you need a picture of the page, whether you want the visible portion or the whole page from top to bottom.
Other browser commands produce different results. Save Page As saves webpage content and related files, rather than a single screenshot. Printing to PDF creates a document-style file, not a JPEG image. Choose one of those only if you need an editable/offline webpage or a document for printing, rather than a flat image.
- Need a picture of what is displayed? Take a screenshot.
- Need one long image of the complete page? Use a full-page screenshot option.
- Need a JPEG specifically? Check the screenshot’s download format, or convert the resulting image to JPEG.
- Need a document to print or share as pages? Print or save as PDF instead.
Menu labels and available controls can vary with browser version and platform. The workflows below reflect the cited browser help pages; where a help page does not establish the saved format, the format is identified as unspecified rather than assumed.

Firefox: capture the full page, then export JPEG
Firefox’s built-in screenshot tool can capture either the current viewport or the full document. Mozilla documents the downloaded image as a PNG, so use an image editor for the final JPEG conversion.
- Open the page you want to capture and let the content you need finish loading.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and select Take Screenshot. On macOS, Control-click can open the context menu. Alternatively, use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page for the complete document, or Save visible for only the viewport.
- Select Download. Firefox saves the screenshot as a
.pngimage. You can choose the clipboard option instead if you want to paste it into another application. - Open the PNG in an image editor, choose its export or save-as command, select JPEG/JPG, and save a new copy. Keep the PNG if you may want the original capture later.
Alternative: Firefox Developer Tools
Firefox also offers a Developer Tools screenshot button for full-page captures. It is optional and is not enabled by default. Open Developer Tools settings, find Available Toolbox Buttons, and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page. Firefox’s Web Console also has a :screenshot helper with a --fullpage option; its documentation describes PNG filenames. These are still capture routes, not documented direct JPEG exports.

Microsoft Edge: use Web Capture, then verify the format
Edge includes a built-in full-page Web Capture workflow. Microsoft’s guide explains how to capture and save an image, but does not specify whether the resulting file is JPEG or PNG. Do not assume the saved image is JPEG: inspect the save dialog or the downloaded file, and convert it in an image editor if necessary.

- Open the page in Edge.
- Open the browser menu and choose Web capture, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose Capture full page.
- Review the captured page and save it to your device.
- Check the resulting file’s type. If it is not JPEG, open it in an image editor and export a JPEG copy.

Chrome: use an extension for JPG export, or convert a screenshot
Chrome’s documented More → More tools → Save Page As command saves the webpage; it is not a documented JPEG screenshot feature. Chrome’s print flow can save a page as PDF, but PDF is a document format, not a JPEG image. For an image, use a screenshot method and then check or convert its format.
One optional route is GoFullPage, a Chrome Web Store extension whose listing describes full-page screenshots and documents PNG or JPG download options in its changelog. Extension controls and features may change, so check the current listing and interface before depending on JPG export.
- Install and open a full-page screenshot extension from the Chrome Web Store, if using an extension is acceptable for your device and organization.
- Use its capture control on the page. Review the capture before downloading, especially if the page is very long or has content that loads as you scroll.
- If the extension offers a JPG/JPEG export choice, select it. Otherwise, download the available image and convert it with an image editor.

Convert the capture to JPEG without losing the original
Browser screenshot tools do not all document the same output type. Firefox explicitly documents PNG; Edge’s cited guide leaves the type unspecified; GoFullPage lists PNG or JPG options. If the capture is not already JPEG, an image editor’s export/save-as function is the simplest general conversion route.
- Make a copy of the screenshot before converting, or save the JPEG under a different name. Conversion gives you another file and preserves the original capture.
- Open the copy in an image editor.
- Use Export, Save a Copy, or Save As and choose JPEG/JPG from the format list.
- If the editor asks for a quality setting, choose the quality appropriate to the use: higher quality generally retains more image detail but creates a larger file; lower quality makes a smaller file and can introduce visible compression artifacts.
- Save the result, then reopen it or inspect its file details to confirm it is a JPEG. A filename extension alone is not definitive if an application was merely renamed rather than converted.
JPEG is useful when an upload form or recipient specifically requires that format. If you need a lossless copy of the browser capture, keep the original PNG rather than replacing it with a JPEG. If the page contains fine text or sharp interface edges, inspect the converted image at normal viewing size; compression can make those details less crisp.
Make a full-page capture readable
A full-page screenshot can be very tall. It contains the page at the capture’s rendered scale, so text that is legible on screen may become difficult to read when the entire image is displayed or printed at once. If the complete page matters, retain the original full-size capture and zoom in when reviewing. If only a section matters, a visible-area or more targeted capture may be easier to share.
Before capturing, wait for important content to appear. Pages may load images or other content as the visitor scrolls. A capture made before those elements load can omit them. If a page is interactive, dismiss obstructing dialogs or scroll through relevant areas first where the capture workflow requires it. Review the saved image before sending it; browser capture does not guarantee that every dynamic element will appear exactly as expected.

The file is PNG, not JPEG
This is expected for Firefox’s documented download. Open the PNG in an image editor and export a JPEG copy. For Edge, check the actual saved format because the cited Microsoft guide does not specify it.
The capture includes only the visible screen
Choose Save full page in Firefox or Capture full page in Edge. If using an extension, use its full-page capture control rather than a viewport screenshot.
The page is blank or missing images
Wait for the page and its visible content to load before capturing. Some content appears only after scrolling; scroll through the page and retry if important images or sections are missing.

The JPEG looks less sharp than the source
Check the PNG or other original capture. Re-export the JPEG at a higher quality setting if the editor provides one, and avoid repeatedly converting and resaving the same JPEG.
The browser menu item or shortcut does not work
Check the browser version and platform because menu names and behavior can vary. In Firefox, open the browser context menu and look for Take Screenshot; in Edge, open the menu and select Web capture. For Firefox’s Developer Tools button, enable it under Available Toolbox Buttons if it is absent.
A page-saving or print command produced the wrong file
Save Page As saves webpage content, and printing may produce a PDF. Neither should be mistaken for a JPEG screenshot. Return to a screenshot workflow, then convert the captured image if necessary.
