For a filed return, form, acknowledgement or receipt, download the portal’s own document first. Use browser print-to-PDF only when you need a copy of a page that has no suitable download. A browser capture records how a page is presented; it is not a substitute for the official filed document.
Download an official filed form or attachment
The Income Tax Department’s View Filed Forms User Manual describes this post-login route for registered users with a valid user ID and password:
- Sign in to the e-Filing portal.
- Go to e-File > Income Tax Forms > View Filed Forms.
- Search by form name or number if needed, and select the relevant form and filing year.
- Choose Download for the form, receipt or acknowledgement, or an attachment that is available.
The service can show filed-form PDFs, acknowledgements or receipts, status, attachments and uploaded JSON where applicable. The portal’s View Filed Forms FAQ also confirms that a filed form PDF can be downloaded through this route. Available items depend on the filing and what the portal provides.

The Income Tax Department’s Quick Glance for first time Registration User Manual describes a dashboard option called Download Filed Return. It provides the acknowledgement or the entire filed form for the current assessment year. Use the portal-provided file when you need the actual return or its acknowledgement, rather than printing a page that displays information about it.

Print a portal page to PDF
If the page itself has no suitable download, use your browser’s built-in print feature. This is a general browser method, not a portal-specific control documented by the Income Tax Department. Labels and options differ by browser and operating system.
- Open the page you want to keep. If it requires sign-in, use care with sensitive tax information and save the file somewhere private.
- Open the print dialog: commonly Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. You can also use the browser’s menu and choose Print.
- In the destination or printer selector, choose the built-in PDF option, often labelled Save as PDF.
- Inspect the preview. Check that the relevant text and sections appear, and that pages are not unexpectedly blank or cut off.
- Choose Save, then select a clear filename and a secure folder.
Browser print output depends on the page’s rendering and print settings. It may omit interactive content or lay out the page differently from what you see on screen.

Choose the right kind of PDF

Check the saved PDF
- Open the saved file and confirm the needed content is present and readable.
- Check that the filename and save location make sense, especially if the document contains personal or financial information.
- If you need a filing record, confirm you saved the portal-generated return, form or acknowledgement—not merely a browser printout of a page about it.
Common problems
The filed form or download option is missing
Confirm you are signed in with a registered account and are looking under e-File > Income Tax Forms > View Filed Forms. Search by form name or number and check the filing year. The portal’s menu names and available options can change; consult the current Income Tax Department e-Filing Help if you cannot find the record.

Check the browser print preview before saving. If it does not show the information you need, do not treat the PDF as a complete record. Use the portal’s own download when it is a filed form or acknowledgement, or consult the portal’s help center about access problems.

You need an acknowledgement but printed the page
Return to the portal’s download options. For filed forms, check View Filed Forms; for a filed return, check the dashboard’s Download Filed Return option. A printed web page does not become the portal’s acknowledgement.
