Run one Icecast server on your VPS and use Liquidsoap to feed it two separate audio channels: one for Hindi music and one for Punjabi music. Give each channel its own playlist and Icecast mountpoint—such as /hindi and /punjabi—so listeners can open the stream they want. This setup can operate continuously, but 24/7 availability depends on the VPS, network, process supervision and recovery plan; the software alone does not guarantee uptime.
How the two-stream setup works
Icecast serves audio to listeners. Each distinct stream path is a mountpoint, and one Icecast server can host multiple streams. Liquidsoap supplies the audio: it reads playlists and sends encoded output to Icecast. One Liquidsoap instance can supply multiple audio feeds, so you can maintain both channels in one configuration or choose separate processes if that better suits your operations.
The flow is: Hindi playlist → Liquidsoap output → Icecast mountpoint; Punjabi playlist → Liquidsoap output → a different Icecast mountpoint. Listeners connect to the corresponding URL, which consists of your VPS hostname or IP address, Icecast port, and mountpoint path.

Plan the channels before configuring them
Keep playlists separate
Organize the Hindi and Punjabi tracks in separate directories or playlist files. Decide how each channel should behave when its playlist reaches the end: for example, whether it should repeat, shuffle, or move to a fallback source. Confirm that each playlist contains playable files in formats supported by your installed Liquidsoap and encoding configuration.
Choose distinct, simple mountpoints
Use unambiguous paths such as /hindi and /punjabi. Icecast’s setup guidance recommends avoiding spaces and unusual characters in mountpoint names. Depending on the chosen audio format and listener software, a format-aware extension may be appropriate; follow the conventions for that format. If listener apps support playlist links, Icecast can also provide .m3u links.

Estimate bandwidth from the audience, not just the number of channels
Plan for the combined traffic from both streams and all concurrent listeners. A useful starting estimate is each stream’s encoded bitrate multiplied by its listener time, summed across channels; convert bits to bytes and allow extra capacity for protocol overhead. More listeners require more bandwidth, but the cited software documentation does not establish a VPS size or listener benchmark. Actual capacity depends on bitrate, concurrent audience, network limits and the VPS provider.

The project documentation explains the configuration concepts, but it is not a current, distribution-specific installation recipe. Install Icecast and Liquidsoap using packages appropriate to your VPS operating system, then adapt the syntax to the versions actually installed. Liquidsoap’s development documentation may differ from the syntax in a stable release; check the documentation matching your installed version.

- Install the software. Install Icecast and Liquidsoap for the VPS operating system and confirm which versions and configuration paths the packages provide.
- Set up Icecast’s listener endpoint. Configure its listening address and port. Before exposing it publicly, replace default source and administrator passwords with strong, unique credentials. Liquidsoap’s Quickstart warns that default credentials on a public server can permit unwanted source or administrator access.
- Prepare the audio. Put Hindi and Punjabi tracks in their respective directories or playlists. Check file readability, playlist paths, and that the recordings are authorized for the intended broadcast and territories.
- Create two Liquidsoap playlist sources. Point one source at the Hindi material and another at the Punjabi material. Choose the playlist behavior deliberately and wrap a fallible playlist source with Liquidsoap’s
mksafepattern where appropriate; this can help keep a source from becoming unavailable if its input fails, but it does not protect the VPS or network. - Configure two Icecast outputs. For each output, set the VPS host, Icecast port, source credentials, encoding and a unique mountpoint. Use
/hindifor the Hindi feed and/punjabifor the Punjabi feed, or other distinct simple names. Set codec and bitrate to suit listener compatibility and available bandwidth. - Start and supervise the processes. Run Icecast and Liquidsoap under an appropriate service manager. Configure restart behavior and monitoring as part of the deployment, and decide how you will be alerted to a failed process or exhausted storage.
- Test from outside the VPS. Open each listener URL from a network other than the server’s and confirm that the correct channel plays. Check metadata, audio format, behavior at playlist boundaries, and whether both streams remain available when one source is restarted.
Liquidsoap documents Icecast output configuration and multiple encoded outputs in its Icecast and Shoutcast streaming guide. Because that is development documentation, use it as a concept reference and verify syntax against the version you deploy.
Keep each stream recoverable
Liquidsoap’s mksafe can make a fallible source infallible, which helps with source continuity. Icecast also supports a mount-specific fallback mount when a source stops, subject to a matching streaming format; see the Icecast configuration reference. These are different layers of protection: source handling and mount fallback do not guarantee that the VPS, network connection or complete delivery path will stay online. Service supervision, monitoring and a recovery procedure remain part of a 24/7 deployment.

Check music permissions before broadcasting
Icecast and Liquidsoap only deliver audio; using them does not grant rights to broadcast recordings. Requirements can depend on the specific recordings, ownership and repertoire, listener locations, and how the service operates. Confirm permissions with the relevant rights holders or licensing bodies for each territory before launch. The software documentation does not determine which licenses apply.

If your goal is specifically to keep pre-recorded video live on YouTube, StreamNeo is a different option from this audio-radio setup: it loops uploaded videos in the cloud, rather than broadcasting a camera feed. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card required. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.

Troubleshooting the two channels
One or both listener URLs do not connect
- Check that Icecast is running and listening on the configured address and port.
- Confirm that the relevant Liquidsoap output uses the same host, port and mountpoint Icecast expects, and that firewall rules allow listener traffic.
- Check the source credentials. Change any defaults before public exposure and ensure the configured values match.
The wrong language plays at a mountpoint
- Verify that each Liquidsoap playlist source points to the intended directory or playlist file.
- Check that each output has a distinct mountpoint and is connected to the correct source; a duplicated path can defeat the channel separation.
Playback stops at a playlist boundary or after a source disconnect
- Review playlist end and repeat behavior in Liquidsoap, and confirm the playlist contains playable files.
- Consider source-continuity handling such as
mksafeand, where formats match, an Icecast fallback mount. Test the failure path rather than assuming it will work. - Check service-manager status and logs to distinguish a source issue from a stopped Liquidsoap or Icecast process.
Listeners report buffering or the VPS becomes saturated
- Check actual stream bitrates and concurrent listeners on both mountpoints.
- Compare the combined traffic with the VPS network capacity, allowing for protocol overhead. Reduce bitrate or increase suitable capacity if demand exceeds what the server and provider network can sustain.
Credentials or access appear compromised
- Replace exposed source and administrator passwords, update Liquidsoap’s configuration, and restart affected services.
- Review public access and firewall settings so only the intended services and ports are exposed.
