To run Kahoot! trivia during a YouTube Live broadcast, host the game on your computer and share its screen with viewers through YouTube Live. Explain how to participate before starting each round, and keep the host-only scoreboard and answers out of the shared view if you do not want viewers to see them. YouTube’s own Live Chat polls are a separate feature; they are not shown in the reviewed documentation as connected to Kahoot!.
Choose Kahoot! trivia or a YouTube Live Chat poll
| Option | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Kahoot! hosted game | You host a game and share its screen in the YouTube broadcast. Viewers participate through Kahoot!’s game flow, which is separate from YouTube chat. | Trivia and a hosted game experience. |
| YouTube Live Chat poll | Create a poll from the bottom of the Live Chat window and end it there to see results in chat. | A quick poll within YouTube’s chat. |
The official guides describe these as distinct interaction paths; they do not establish an integration between YouTube’s native polls and Kahoot!. See Kahoot!’s remote-hosting guide and YouTube’s Live Chat poll instructions.
Check YouTube livestream eligibility and equipment
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16 years old. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance before scheduling.

YouTube also documents mobile and encoder workflows; their steps and prerequisites differ. An encoder can suit a more production-intensive broadcast, but is not a universal requirement for hosting Kahoot!. Kahoot! recommends checking bandwidth guidance when planning for a large audience.

Prepare the game and broadcast
- Choose the Kahoot! game. Sign in to your Kahoot! account and locate the game you want to host. Review it in the current host interface; question formats, join instructions, PIN behavior, participant limits, and plan availability are not specified in the referenced remote-hosting guide.
- Set up the YouTube event. Schedule the livestream in advance if useful, then test the intended sharing workflow before the audience arrives. YouTube’s webcam livestream instructions cover starting a broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Plan what will appear on screen. Kahoot!’s remote-hosting guide says the scoreboard and correct answers appear only on the host’s screen. Choose a window or tab to share where possible, and check the preview so host-only information is not exposed inadvertently.
- Prepare a concise participation explanation. Tell viewers how to join and answer using the instructions displayed in your current Kahoot! host session. Do this before starting a timed question so viewers have a chance to follow the process.
Host Kahoot! and share it on YouTube Live
- In Kahoot!, find the game and start hosting a live game. For remote hosting, Kahoot! recommends showing questions and answers on players’ devices.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, start the webcam livestream workflow and choose Share screen. Select the entire display, a window, or a tab. The webcam screen-share feature requires a webcam and microphone connected.
- Confirm the shared content in the broadcast preview. Ensure the game is readable and that you are not sharing host-only answers or scoreboard details unintentionally.
- Explain the participation steps, then begin the game. Keep your spoken directions clear and allow viewers time to respond.
- Manage audio as the game runs. Kahoot! advises not speaking over the timer music; wait until answers are in before talking, or lower or mute the game music.
Kahoot! identifies YouTube Live as a service that can be used to publicly share a hosted game screen. Its remote-hosting recommendations are at Kahoot! Help.
Run a native YouTube poll instead
If you want viewers to vote within YouTube rather than play hosted trivia, create a poll from the bottom of the Live Chat window. End the poll there to see its results in chat. These are YouTube’s native poll steps, not controls for a Kahoot! game; see YouTube Help.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Viewers cannot see the game: Check that YouTube is sharing the intended display, window, or tab and that the selected source is visible in the broadcast preview. If using the webcam workflow, confirm the webcam and microphone are connected.
- Viewers see answers or the scoreboard: The host-only scoreboard and correct answers can appear on the host screen. Stop or change the share, then select a safer window or tab and verify the preview before continuing.
- Viewers are unsure how to join: Pause before the timer starts and explain the instructions shown in the current Kahoot! host session. The exact join flow can depend on the current Kahoot! interface, so avoid relying on outdated PIN or participation directions.
- Game audio competes with the host: Do not talk over timer music; wait for responses or lower or mute the game music.
- The stream or game is unstable for a large audience: Check the network and bandwidth guidance for the selected broadcast and game setup. The official guidance does not establish a quantitative latency comparison or a current participant cap, so do not assume a specific delay or maximum audience size.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube livestream, rather than host a live Kahoot! session from a screen, StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
