For an interactive Express server on an Android phone, use a terminal environment such as Termux, install a compatible Node.js runtime, and follow Express’s normal npm setup. For code that must run inside an Android or iOS app, use an embedded runtime such as Node.js Mobile instead; it is a different approach with mobile-specific limits.
Choose the right mobile approach

These options are not interchangeable: Termux gives you a terminal-based development environment, while Node.js Mobile integrates a runtime into an application. Node.js Mobile describes its purpose as providing a “Full-fledged Node.js on Android and iOS”; that does not make iOS a general-purpose server shell.
Run Express in Termux on Android
Express requires Node.js. The current Express installation guide specifies Node.js 18 or later. Termux package names and installation steps can change, so use the current Termux documentation for installing the terminal environment and Node.js rather than relying on an old package command.

Express is a web framework for Node.js, so the phone must have a working Node.js runtime before the app can start. The Express project describes the framework as “Fast, unopinionated, minimalist web framework for Node.js.”

Open the server from the phone or another device
With the server running, open http://localhost:3000 in a browser on the same phone. The example listens on port 3000 and binds to 0.0.0.0, which allows connections through the phone’s network interfaces as well as locally.
To try it from another device on the same Wi-Fi network, enter the phone’s LAN IP address with the port, for example http://<phone-lan-address>:3000. Find the phone’s current LAN address in its network settings. If the page does not load, check that both devices are on the same network and that the router does not have Wi-Fi client isolation enabled; firewall settings can also block access. A phone’s LAN address may change when it reconnects or switches networks.

Binding to 0.0.0.0 is useful for local-network testing, not a security measure. Do not expose this development server to the public internet without authentication, transport security, and a deliberate deployment design.
Embed Node.js in a mobile app
For a Node.js backend or background task that belongs inside an app, Node.js Mobile provides Android and iOS binaries and integration documentation. Its React Native guide describes a plugin that starts a specified Node.js file from the app’s Node home path. On Android, the plugin copies the Node project into application data at startup.

This is an app-integration route rather than a substitute for a normal terminal workflow. You must integrate and distribute the runtime with the application, and the app’s operating-system lifecycle and permissions apply to its Node.js code.
Mobile-specific limits to plan for

Some Node.js APIs are unavailable. Node.js Mobile says it supports most upstream Node.js APIs, but
child_processandclusterare unsupported in its mobile environment. Check compatibility before relying on those APIs or on a package that uses them. -
File access follows app permissions. Node.js Mobile’s FAQ says files must be written to locations the mobile application is permitted to access. Do not assume code can write to arbitrary paths on the device.

WebAssembly is unsupported on iOS in Node.js Mobile. The project attributes this to the JIT interpretation requirement and Apple App Store guidelines. This limitation is specific to Node.js Mobile on iOS.

Long-running servers face mobile lifecycle and connectivity constraints. Background suspension, battery use, changing networks, and address reachability can disrupt a phone-hosted process. Treat a phone server as a development, demo, edge, or embedded-app tool unless the platform-specific lifecycle has been designed and tested for the intended use.
