You can make an online radio station available on YouTube Live by sending its finished audio feed through a cloud encoder or relay configured to publish to a YouTube live event. YouTube provides the broadcast destination, watch page, and chat; the cloud service sends the feed; your station remains responsible for programming, rights, and operations. YouTube does not provide radio automation, and not every cloud service supports an unattended 24/7 feed.
How the radio-to-YouTube setup works
The basic path is: your station produces or selects audio, a cloud service sends it as an encoder feed, and YouTube distributes the live broadcast to viewers. The cloud service must accept your station’s source and provide a live output compatible with YouTube’s encoder workflow. The exact setup screens and supported inputs vary by provider.
- Your station: supplies the automation output, playlist, or live studio feed and handles programming, metadata, rights, and decisions about what to play.
- The cloud encoder or relay: takes the source and sends a continuous live feed to YouTube. Confirm that it can run unattended for your intended duration and how it handles interruptions.
- YouTube: hosts the live event, watch page, and audience features such as chat. Its live-stream guidance describes encoder streaming as one way to broadcast. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
A microphone or audio interface may be useful if you produce interviews or commentary locally. It is not automatically necessary when your station already has a finished audio feed and the cloud service handles delivery.

Do not assume that a product described as a streaming relay can run a radio station continuously. Ask the provider about the source and output formats it supports, unattended operation, recovery behavior, and what staff must do when something goes wrong.

- Source input: Can it accept the station’s actual automation output, playlist, or live studio feed?
- YouTube output: Does it explicitly support sending a live encoder feed to YouTube?
- Continuity: How long can a session run? Does it reconnect automatically after a lost connection, and does it restart a session that reaches a limit?
- Operations: Are monitoring, alerts, scheduling, and failover available? Does recovery require a person to intervene?
- Audio and presentation: What audio controls are available? Can you manage metadata or a visual slate, and can an operator quickly pause or replace a track?
- Cost and limits: Check current pricing, usage limits, and terms against the way your station plans to operate.
For example, Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation says a live session lasts 24 hours, after which a channel may be restarted. That limit applies to that API; it is not a general limit for cloud streaming services. Ask any prospective provider how its own sessions, reconnections, and restarts work. How to send your radio station to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming on your YouTube channel. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days. Start this process early and check the channel’s status before scheduling a broadcast. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
- Choose and configure the cloud service. Confirm that it accepts your station’s source and can publish to YouTube using an encoder-compatible live output. Set up its unattended-run, reconnect, alert, and restart behavior for the broadcast duration you need.
- Create or schedule a YouTube live event. In YouTube’s live-stream workflow, create the event and obtain its stream settings. Add the destination details to the cloud service as its output. Control labels vary, so follow the current instructions in both services rather than assuming identical menus.
- Test the complete route before launch. Use a private or unlisted event where appropriate. Confirm that the cloud service receives the right source, YouTube shows the expected preview, and audio plays on the watch page. Check that viewers can access the event from your channel and on mobile, and test reconnection or failover where available.
- Set the broadcast presentation and operating plan. Decide on the event title and description, recording settings, visual treatment, station identification, and chat moderation. Assign someone to monitor the first broadcast and know how to pause or replace audio and restart delivery.
- Launch only after music rights are cleared. Document that the station has permission for the intended YouTube use, and coordinate any required Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder or its label or distributor.
- Monitor the first live broadcast. Watch for missing or distorted audio, delivery interruptions, access problems, and rights notices. YouTube recommends testing the encoder setup, previewing the stream, checking access, testing failover where applicable, and monitoring stream quality. YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips.
Clear music rights before going live
Music rights are a launch requirement, not something to sort out after a stream starts. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the picture with a placeholder and warn the operator to stop using the content. Leaving the material in place can lead to interruption or termination of the stream. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

Having a license does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted transmission. YouTube says the rights holder may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Coordinate with the rights holder and, where relevant, the label or distributor before broadcasting licensed music. YouTube for Artists also recommends coordinating with a label or distributor when using copyright-protected music: Going live for music channels.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsKeep records of the rights and permissions that cover the music and other third-party material you plan to use. If a track is not cleared for the intended YouTube broadcast, remove or replace it; do not try to disguise it or work around a Content ID restriction.

Continuity: plan for disconnects and session limits
A cloud service can remove the need to keep a home computer online, but the station still needs a plan for source failures, network interruptions, and service-specific session limits. Confirm whether a reconnect is automatic, whether a session restarts on its own, whether staff receive an alert, and what happens to the YouTube event during recovery. YouTube recommends testing failover where applicable; Google Cloud’s 24-hour Live Stream API session limit is one example of why the provider’s own behavior matters.
For comparison, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; it is for uploaded video playback, not a live microphone or studio audio feed, so confirm that this workflow fits your station before using it. Each slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and team support. The first day is free with no card; UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo for details.
