Yes—you can keep an Indian radio-style YouTube channel live around the clock by sending a continuous audio-and-video program from an encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. You need a channel eligible for live streaming, a reliable upload connection, a program source, and the rights to stream every recording and underlying musical work. Plan restarts: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but you should not assume a longer session will be saved as one archive.
What you need for a 24/7 YouTube radio stream
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it and check access before your launch.
- An encoder and a program source. An encoder sends your audio and video feed to YouTube. It can be software running on a computer or a hardware encoder. YouTube’s encoder guidance names Wirecast as an example; that is an example, not an endorsement. For a music-only station, the program can be automated media; a microphone is optional.
- Stable upload capacity. The connection must sustain the stream, including any backup stream you configure. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend upload capacity 20% above the total stream bitrate. Treat that as recommended headroom, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
- Rights for every part of the program. Commercial recordings and the musical and literary works in them can involve distinct rights. Confirm clearances for the actual use, platform, and territories.
- A monitoring and restart plan. Continuous operation still needs someone or something to notice a failed encoder, network outage, or YouTube interruption and recover the feed.
Check YouTube live eligibility before preparing the station
Open YouTube Studio and check whether the channel can create a live stream. If it is the channel’s first live broadcast, enable live streaming in advance and allow up to 24 hours for activation. YouTube’s stated eligibility includes channel verification and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Restrictions can result from copyright issues, including matching copyrighted live broadcasts; see YouTube Help’s Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming and Livestream terms and conditions.
Do not wait until the scheduled launch to discover the feature is unavailable. Create a test stream, check access to Live Control Room, and make sure the encoder can connect before public promotion.

Build and send the radio program with an encoder
- Prepare the program. Assemble the audio and any visuals your channel will show. Check that the chosen encoder can keep the program playing continuously and recover or be restarted if the source ends. For a host-led station, connect and test the microphone and any other audio equipment. A music-only automated station does not need a microphone.
- Create a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Set up the live stream there and use the stream settings YouTube provides for that broadcast. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe sending the feed with the stream URL and stream key.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s supplied stream URL and key, and choose an available encrypted RTMPS connection if the encoder supports it. Use the resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe settings supported by your encoder and the current YouTube settings shown for the stream. The source guidance for this article does not establish one numeric preset that suits every audio/video production, so do not copy a bitrate or resolution blindly; test the actual program and connection.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or share it with people who do not need stream access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder with the new key.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder, wait for YouTube to receive the feed, and preview the stream in Live Control Room. Check sound levels, picture, playback continuity, and stream health before making the broadcast public.
- Monitor after launch. Keep an eye on the YouTube stream health, the encoder, and the connection. Test under realistic conditions, including the actual program and expected network load. If you configure primary and backup streams, include both in your upload-capacity plan.
YouTube Help’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder, Manage live stream settings, and YouTube live streaming tips cover the encoder workflow, stream credentials, preview, and monitoring. Labels can change; follow the current controls shown in your channel’s Live Control Room.

Plan restarts and archives for continuous broadcasting
YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That statement applies to streams under 12 hours; it is not a promise that a continuous stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be saved as one complete archive. If keeping a replay matters, plan tested handoffs or restarts that create sessions under that threshold, and confirm the resulting archives in YouTube Studio.
A restart plan should cover both routine handoffs and unexpected failures. Decide who checks the channel, who can restart the encoder, and how the station verifies that viewers are receiving audio after recovery. Test the full sequence before relying on it overnight. A backup connection or encoder can help with some failures, but it does not remove the need to monitor the broadcast.

Can you play Bollywood or other commercial music?
Only if you have the rights required for that specific use. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say the content provider must hold the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services, including music licensing rights, and meet applicable territory requirements. In practical terms, do not assume that owning a recording, paying for a consumer music subscription, or having a general radio permission makes continuous retransmission on YouTube lawful.
IPRS explains that a song can involve the sound recording and the underlying musical or literary works. Its licensing information describes licenses for uses such as internet streaming and radio broadcast, and says its repertoire licensing applies to works it controls. That does not establish that one IPRS license clears every recording and right for a YouTube stream. YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as possible live revenue features. Ads require channel monetization and stream monetization to be enabled, and YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. Eligibility and available features depend on the channel and YouTube’s current rules; do not budget around an assumed audience or guaranteed ad revenue.
