To keep gaming reviews and walkthrough recordings playing continuously on YouTube, send a playlist of prerecorded videos to a scheduled YouTube Live event using a local encoder or a cloud playback service. A cloud service avoids leaving a computer running; a local encoder gives you direct control over gameplay overlays and audio. If you need reliable YouTube replays, plan shorter events: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Choose a workflow for prerecorded gaming videos
The right setup depends on whether you need production control, hands-off playback, or a dependable archive. YouTube identifies encoder streaming as a common route for gameplay, overlays, and external audio/video hardware. It also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streams of prerecorded videos; check any service’s current limits and costs directly before choosing it.
| Workflow | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | You want direct control over overlays, audio, and the outgoing feed. | Your computer, power, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. A failure can stop playback. |
| Cloud playback | You want prerecorded videos to rotate without keeping a home computer on. | Review the service’s current pricing, format limits, recovery behavior, and playlist features before committing. YouTube names Gyre as an example in its encoder guide, but that mention does not establish its current terms. |
For either workflow, treat the live broadcast and its archive as separate outcomes. If a complete replay matters, use shorter events and make a local recording as a backup.
Prepare the channel and content
Enable live streaming before launch day
Verify the channel and confirm that it has no live-streaming restrictions from the prior 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Start early enough to allow that process to finish: YouTube’s live-streaming overview.

Check rights for both the live feed and replay
You are responsible for having the rights needed to broadcast and archive everything in the stream. Review the publisher’s gameplay-video policy and the terms for each soundtrack, music track, promotional clip, or other third-party material; permission to show gameplay does not automatically establish permission for every audio track or for archived use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can interrupt or terminate the live feed, and an archived stream can receive a Content ID claim after it ends. If a rights holder has licensed material for your use, YouTube says your channel may need to be allowlisted in Content ID to avoid interruptions. See YouTube’s livestream terms and copyright guidance for live streams.
Build a playlist that works as a continuous program
Group only videos you have permission to broadcast, then decide the order and transitions in your encoder or cloud tool. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a playlist design, so test how your chosen tool handles the end of one file, the start of the next, and any gaps. For gaming channels, label the stream clearly so viewers can tell whether it contains reviews, walkthroughs, or both.

Set up a YouTube Live event and encoder
- Create or schedule the event: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, visibility, and stream settings for the event.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into your encoder’s streaming settings. Keep the key private; reset it if you think it has been exposed.
- Configure the playlist: Add the prerecorded reviews and walkthroughs to the encoder or playback tool in the order you want them shown. Set the tool to continue to the next video and loop the playlist if continuous playback is intended.
- Preview before going live: Start the encoder or cloud feed and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm picture, sound levels, overlays, transitions, and that the public watch page opens as expected.
- Start and monitor the event: Start the broadcast from the encoder and monitor the feed. Check playback on the channel or watch page, including on a phone, and keep an eye on audio and video quality.
YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the event setup and connection workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. For general streaming checks, see YouTube live-streaming tips.
Plan event length around the archive
YouTube’s current archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not promise viewers a complete replay from one uninterrupted broadcast if it runs beyond that threshold. If the platform VOD matters, schedule shorter events, start a fresh event for the next block, and retain a local recording. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup. Read YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

A local file protects your own copy if a platform archive is missing or incomplete, but it needs storage. Check that the recording file is growing during the event, and verify it after the event before deleting source material.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The event cannot go live | Live streaming is not enabled yet, or the channel has a restriction. | Confirm channel verification and live-stream eligibility. For a first activation, allow up to 24 hours for live streaming to become available. |
| Live Control Room has no incoming picture or sound | The encoder may not be sending to the selected event, or its stream URL/key may be wrong. | Compare the encoder’s connection details with the event in Live Control Room. Preview again before starting the event. |
| The live feed is interrupted or terminated | A technical failure or a third-party content match may have disrupted it. | Check the Live Control Room status and any copyright notices. Review rights for the game audio, music, and other third-party material; do not assume a gameplay policy covers all of it. |
| The archive is missing or incomplete | The event may have exceeded 12 hours, or the platform archive may otherwise be unavailable. | Check the event in YouTube Studio’s Live area and use your local recording as the backup. For future VODs, break the broadcast into shorter events. |
| Playback stops between videos | The playlist or encoder may not be configured to advance or loop as intended. | Test the transition and loop before launch. Check the tool’s playlist settings and verify the next file is available. |
| Playback quality changes or audio becomes difficult to hear | The encoder, source file, or connection may be producing an inconsistent feed. | Monitor picture and audio in Live Control Room and on the watch page; check the source files and encoder output. Keep a local recording so you can inspect the result afterward. |
YouTube recommends testing before launch, monitoring audio and video, checking playback on channel/watch pages and mobile, and verifying that local archive files are growing. Its cited guidance does not promise a specific uptime or define a complete failover design, so plan for the possibility that a local encoder, computer, power source, or network connection can fail.

Can I keep one YouTube gaming stream running for more than 12 hours?
You can transmit longer, but YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Use shorter events if the replay matters.
Does permission to stream gameplay also cover the game’s music?
Not necessarily. Check the publisher’s policy and the rights terms for music and other third-party content separately, including whether they permit live and archived use.
