To keep Dota 2 match replays streaming on YouTube, play a permitted replay or recording through a running Dota 2 computer, capture its video with an encoder such as OBS, and send the encoder’s output to a YouTube Live event. For a 24/7 run, you also need someone or something to handle interruptions. Before setting it up, confirm that the replay and any tournament content may be streamed: Valve’s Dota 2 Community Stream Policy restricts what footage and audio you can use.

Choose a workflow—and know what it can actually do

The do-it-yourself method uses a computer running Dota 2 and an encoder. The game client supplies the replay image; the encoder captures it and sends it to YouTube. This approach requires the game, computer, encoder, and network connection to keep working for the stream to continue.

The official guidance cited here does not establish a current Dota 2 client click path for finding or downloading replays, how long a replay remains available, or a supported method for automatically looping replays. Check the current Dota 2 client for replay access and controls rather than relying on an assumed menu path or an undocumented script. If the replay cannot be played continuously, a local encoder cannot turn it into an uninterrupted source by itself.

A separate option is to stream a finished video file from a cloud service. StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos to YouTube, but it does not run Dota 2, locate or fetch match replays, or verify rights. You would need to create or obtain a permitted recording first.

Check tournament and copyright rules before you stream

For tournament replays, check the event operator’s requirements as well as Valve’s policy. Valve says a Dota 2 Community Stream must be based exclusively on DotaTV and content you created or licensed. Operator camera work and broadcast audio require the operator’s authorization, and event-specific requirements also apply. If the operator has published no requirements, Valve says the community stream must still be non-commercial. Valve’s general video policy allows monetization of Valve game videos through the YouTube Partner Program and similar programs, but that general permission does not override event rules or third-party rights.

Contact the event operator if its requirements are unclear; Valve suggests doing so at least two weeks in advance. Treat that as planning guidance, not a universal formal deadline.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another broadcast. It may display a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains, and place Content ID claims on an archived stream. A license alone may not prevent interruption: YouTube instructs creators using licensed third-party material to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist.

Set up the local Dota 2-to-YouTube stream

  1. Confirm the source is permitted. Establish that the replay itself may be streamed, and obtain authorization for any event broadcast audio, camera work, or other third-party material you plan to use. Follow the event operator’s requirements.
  2. Prepare a computer that can run both the game and encoder. Steam publishes minimum requirements for Dota 2 on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Those are game requirements, not a guarantee that the same computer can play a replay and encode a stable live stream at the same time. Test the actual game-and-encoder setup.
  3. Enable YouTube live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave it until stream day.
  4. Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio. Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube connection settings. If the encoder offers a direct YouTube connection, use that; otherwise, enter the server URL and key where prompted. Keep the key private: anyone who gets it may be able to send video to your event.
  5. Capture the replay in the encoder. Add the Dota 2 replay/gameplay view as the video source in OBS or another encoder. Add commentary or graphics only if you have the rights to use them and the event requirements allow them. YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source recording and streaming software.
  6. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Check the settings shown for your event in YouTube Studio and configure the encoder accordingly. The sources cited here do not establish a specific bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval for this setup, so do not treat a guessed preset as an official requirement.
  7. Test before announcing a continuous run. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Check the Studio preview, then confirm the watch page works from another device, including a phone. Listen to the audio, inspect the video, and check the encoder for stability. If using a backup encoder, test that failover before relying on it.
  8. Plan who responds when something fails. Monitor the stream and be ready to respond to copyright alerts, encoder or network failure, and the replay ending. YouTube’s guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise the same for a 24-hour broadcast.

Keep the stream running through interruptions

A local setup depends on the computer, Dota 2 playback, encoder, and network remaining available. YouTube recommends monitoring the stream and checking access from the channel or watch page and a mobile device. If you use a backup encoder, test the handover rather than assuming it will work during an outage.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you already have a permitted Dota 2 recording, StreamNeo can loop that uploaded video to YouTube without leaving your computer on. It does not run the Dota 2 game client or make an unapproved replay lawful to broadcast.

  1. Upload the permitted recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.

There is no computer or home connection that has to stay on. Every slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; there are no quality tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically attempts recovery. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo pricing for the available billing periods. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
