To keep recorded product training videos live on YouTube around the clock, send a continuous feed from an encoder or hosted playout service to a YouTube Live stream. Create the stream in YouTube Studio, connect it using the stream URL and key, then check the preview before going live. The key limitation: YouTube may not archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, and viewer rewind may be limited or unavailable after that point.
Choose how the videos will play continuously
YouTube Live is the destination; a separate encoder or hosted service plays your recordings and sends the feed to YouTube. Choose a method based on how much control and local monitoring you need.
| Method | What it does | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Uploads recorded videos to the cloud and loops them to YouTube Live. | Nothing needs to stay running on your computer or home connection. One slot has one always-on stream, playlists and looping, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed as made, with no re-encode or quality tiers; all plans have the same product and differ only by duration. See StreamNeo. |
| Local software encoder | A computer runs playback and encoder software, then sends the feed to YouTube. YouTube lists OBS among encoder options. | You control the setup, but the computer, source files, encoder and network need to remain available. Plan how the playlist loops and what happens after a disconnection. |
| Hardware encoder | Dedicated equipment sends prerecorded media to YouTube Live; YouTube’s encoder guide describes AJA PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media. | Check the exact model and workflow before buying. YouTube’s directory entry does not establish current availability, price or uninterrupted operation. |
| Other hosted playout | YouTube’s encoder guide identifies Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. | Confirm current pricing, limits, recovery behavior and service terms with the provider; the directory listing does not establish those details or guarantee uptime. |
For a local setup, software is a flexible starting point; dedicated hardware may suit a fixed installation. A hosted service avoids keeping a local playback computer running. Compare playlist controls, recovery, monitoring, recording, cost and who can access the stream key before deciding.

Check channel eligibility before launch
YouTube’s current live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and be operated by someone at least 16 years old. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. See YouTube’s getting-started guidance.

Create the YouTube Live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one from the Manage tab. Scheduled streams can be shared and may appear to viewers as upcoming, with reminders available.
- Set the event details. Choose an accurate title, description, audience setting and visibility. Use a private or unlisted test before a public launch if you need to check the complete workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. YouTube uses these to direct the encoder feed to the correct stream. Treat the key like a password: do not include it in public instructions or screenshots, and restrict access to the people and services that need it.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder or playout service. Use the server URL and key supplied by YouTube. You can reuse stream settings in YouTube Studio, but verify that the selected event and key are the intended ones.
- Start the feed and inspect the preview. For an encoder-based scheduled event, start the encoder, wait for the feed in Live Control Room, check the image and sound, then click Go live when ready.
- Set and test the playback behavior. Configure the playlist or loop in the chosen encoder or service. Test what happens when one video ends, the full playlist ends, or the connection drops; YouTube’s connection instructions do not specify one universal looping control for all encoders.
For the official platform workflow, see YouTube’s encoder-based live streaming instructions.
Set a stable video and audio feed
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Its published encoder settings support H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended keyframe interval of 2 seconds that should not exceed 4 seconds. Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for the chosen resolution and frame rate instead of guessing a bitrate; the right setting also depends on having a stable upload connection. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed into playback formats for viewers.
- Use a representative training clip in the test, including the most demanding motion and audio in the playlist.
- Check resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, audio clarity and levels in Live Control Room.
- Watch stream-health warnings and test playback on a mobile device as well as the operator’s screen.
- Keep the encoder or hosted service’s output settings consistent with the YouTube stream configuration.
See YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions for its live table and configuration guidance.

Plan for the 12-hour archive and DVR limits
Continuous availability is not the same as a dependable replay archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It also advises keeping a local archive as a backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Long streams also weaken navigation for learners: YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
If trainees need a reliable lesson library, publish the individual lessons as regular videos and retain local recordings in addition to the live feed. You can consider planned stream restarts, but test how they affect the watch page, notifications, handoff and operator workload; a restart is not established as a way to preserve one uninterrupted archive.

Clear rights and understand monetization limits
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to hold the rights needed to use the live content worldwide, including music licensing rights. Check the complete recording for third-party music, video clips, screenshots, product demonstrations, logos or other material—not just the spoken training. See YouTube’s Terms of Service.
Monetization is conditional on channel eligibility and policy compliance. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams and expects monetized content to be original and authentic. Its July 15, 2025 clarification says repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible, with examples focused on content lacking meaningful educational or other value. Product training can be educational, but looping a feed alone neither guarantees nor automatically rules out monetization. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and YouTube’s live monetization guidance.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No preview appears in Live Control Room | The encoder is not sending, or the URL/key is incorrect. | Confirm the encoder is running, recheck the selected event’s server URL and stream key, and start the feed again. Keep the key private. |
| Video stutters or stream health degrades | The upload connection may not sustain the configured bitrate, or the encoder output is unstable. | Use YouTube’s bitrate table for the selected resolution and frame rate, test the connection under representative conditions, and review stream-health warnings. |
| Audio is missing, too quiet or mismatched | Playback or encoder audio routing/levels are wrong. | Test a representative clip before launch and inspect audio in the preview and on a separate device. |
| The feed stops at the end of a video or playlist | Looping or end-of-playlist behavior was not configured in the playback tool. | Set the intended loop behavior in the encoder or hosted service and test the transition through the end of every playlist item. |
| The stream disconnects and does not resume | The local computer, network, encoder or hosted service may have stopped sending. | Check which component failed and whether it reconnects as configured. Monitor the live feed; do not assume any encoder or platform guarantees uninterrupted service. |
| No complete replay is available | The event may have exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive threshold. | Keep local recordings and separate lesson uploads; do not rely on a very long live event as the sole archive. |
Cost and operating trade-offs
A local software workflow avoids a hosted playout subscription but depends on a powered computer, reliable internet, and operator attention. Hardware adds a dedicated-device purchase and still requires checking its workflow. Third-party hosted services may charge for playout; confirm their current terms directly because YouTube’s directory does not set those prices or guarantees.
