To keep a local-language music playlist live on YouTube around the clock, first secure the rights for every recording and visual, enable live streaming on your channel, then send a continuously looping program to YouTube through an encoder or hosted service. An always-on broadcast is not a set-and-forget archive: you need a plan to monitor playback, connection health and copyright notices, and to recover when something stops.

1. Clear the music and visuals before building the stream

Make an inventory of every track, recording, composition, cover image, animation and other asset in the program. Confirm that the channel has permission for continuous live transmission in the territories you intend to reach, and for any archive or later reuse. A right to play a recording privately, or to use a song in another format, does not by itself establish permission for a YouTube livestream.

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions require the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Check license scope, territory, duration and archive rights with the relevant owner or administrator. Do not assume that music described as “royalty-free,” purchased, or locally popular is automatically cleared for a continuous YouTube broadcast.

Check Content ID handling, not just the license

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A stream may be interrupted or terminated when protected content is identified. YouTube also cautions that a stream can be interrupted even when the channel has a license if the rightsholder has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Ask the owner or administrator to confirm whether allowlisting is needed and has been completed. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

2. Enable live streaming and prepare the event

  1. Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, do it early: YouTube says initial enablement can take up to 24 hours. See Get started with live streaming.
  2. Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling gives you a watch-page URL to share in advance.
  3. Set clear metadata. Use the correct local language for the program title and description, and identify the music, artists, channel and schedule accurately. Do not imply that you own rights you do not have, and follow applicable privacy and community requirements.
  4. Choose an encoder route. YouTube receives a live feed from software or hardware encoding, or from a compatible hosted streaming service. The selected setup must keep the playlist and its visual feed running continuously.

3. Choose a local encoder or hosted service

A local setup gives the operator direct control, but depends on the playback process, encoder, power, internet connection and monitoring remaining available. YouTube notes that existing equipment may be sufficient; a dedicated machine or hardware encoder is an optional purchase, not a general prerequisite.

A hosted continuous-streaming service can remove the need to keep a home computer running. Before choosing one, verify that it supports YouTube Live, reliably repeats your playlist without gaps, keeps a valid visual feed, protects access to the stream key, and explains how it detects and handles playback or connection failures. Check its current costs, limits, cancellation terms, archive behavior and whether its processing fits the rights you have obtained. Looping and automatic recovery are not inherent guarantees of YouTube Live.

4. Connect the encoder and test the broadcast

  1. Copy the ingest details. In the stream’s Live Control Room settings, copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s password/address: treat it as a secret, limit who can access it, and reset it if exposed. Follow Manage live stream settings.
  2. Set compatible encoding. YouTube’s general encoder recommendations include H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not above four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Its advanced settings recommend 128 Kbps stereo audio. Match resolution and bitrate to your source and available upload capacity; consult YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions rather than assuming one bitrate fits every format.
  3. Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the stream bitrate. If the connection cannot sustain the stream with that margin, lower the bitrate or use a more reliable connection before going public. See YouTube streaming tips.
  4. Preview before going live. Start sending the feed and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the intended audio and visuals are present, the playlist repeats as expected without silence or gaps, and the public watch page opens on desktop and mobile.
  5. Check the archive behavior you need. YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on an always-on broadcast as an indefinite archive; confirm current platform behavior and limits, and keep a separate source copy if the recording matters.

YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for advanced cases; it has higher latency than the usual encoder workflow. Unless your setup specifically requires HLS, use the encoder path described above and follow YouTube’s HLS setup guidance before configuring it.

  • Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight

5. Run monitoring and recovery as part of the channel

Assign a person or system to watch stream health, audio and video quality, connection status, playlist playback and rights notices. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend checking archive-file growth, stream accessibility, mobile playback and audio/video quality. Decide who responds and how viewers will be informed if the stream pauses.

  • Playlist stops or has gaps: inspect the playback process and playlist order; verify that repeat mode is enabled and that the visual feed remains valid.
  • Encoder or computer stops: restart the encoder and confirm that it is sending to the intended stream. Check power settings, updates and any scheduled restarts that could interrupt a long-running process.
  • Connection is unstable: check sustained upload capacity, not just a momentary speed result. Reduce the bitrate if needed and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
  • YouTube identifies music: review the copyright notice, pause or replace the affected content, and contact the rightsholder about license scope and Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume that restarting the same music resolves a rights issue.
  • Broadcast ends: decide in advance whether the operator will restart the scheduled stream or create a new broadcast, and how the channel will communicate the interruption. The official guidance does not guarantee unattended failover.
