You can run an all-day YouTube Live loop from a low-power PC by sending a prerecorded video through an encoder such as OBS to a YouTube stream you created in YouTube Studio. The key is to use a resolution and bitrate the PC can encode continuously and the measured upload connection can sustain—with YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom—then test the complete setup before going live. An all-day broadcast is not guaranteed to produce a complete YouTube replay: streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, so record locally if the replay matters.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and an eligible account holder. YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to livestream.
- A low-power PC capable of playing your video and encoding the chosen output without sustained overload. Hardware capability depends on the exact machine, encoder, codec, resolution, frame rate, and content; test rather than assume.
- A prerecorded video file or playlist, encoder software, a stable internet connection, and the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio.
- Enough disk space if you also plan to record locally. Check that the recording file is growing during the test.
First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guide. Verify eligibility and enable streaming well before the planned broadcast.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Enable live streaming: In YouTube Studio, confirm live streaming is available for the channel and resolve any account restrictions before preparing the event.
- Create or schedule the event: Open YouTube Studio’s live-streaming workflow and create or schedule a stream. Copy the ingest server URL and stream key shown for that event.
- Protect the stream key: Enter it only in your encoder’s streaming settings. Treat it like a password; do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast.
- Configure the encoder: In the encoder’s streaming settings, select YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS as appropriate, then enter the server URL and key. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Exact menu labels vary by encoder version.
- Load the prerecorded video: Add the video or playlist as the encoder’s media source and enable looping in the encoder. Confirm the video’s audio is routed to the stream and that playback restarts as expected at the end.
- Set the output: Choose a resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate that both the PC and YouTube support. Begin conservatively on a low-power system, then validate CPU or GPU load and stream health in a long test.
- Preview before broadcasting: Start the encoder and check the event preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm the picture, audio, and stream health before making the event public or sharing it with viewers.
Choose resolution and bitrate for your connection
Measure upload speed from the same location and under conditions similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube recommends running a speed test and leaving 20% upload headroom; other devices sharing the connection can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder. Use upload capacity, not download speed, to set the stream bitrate. YouTube’s advice is to keep the stream bitrate within available upload bandwidth and allow that headroom.
| H.264 output | YouTube-listed minimum bitrate | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube-published H.264 recommendations, not measured Indian broadband speeds or a guarantee that a particular PC can encode the setting. The minimum is not a substitute for testing stability and picture quality. A lower resolution can be a sensible starting point when the upload is limited or the PC struggles; choose based on the test, not a country-wide assumption about internet conditions. See YouTube’s encoder settings for its current guidance, including other codecs.

Encoder settings that matter
- Rate control: Use CBR, as YouTube recommends for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
- Codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS. The encoder and PC must support the selected codec; do not assume a low-power machine can encode every option. The bitrate table above is for H.264.
- Frame rate: YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Use a frame rate appropriate to the source and test the PC’s sustained encoding load.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Check the encoder’s audio input and listen to the preview for clipping, silence, or unwanted desktop sounds.
- SDR color: YouTube specifies Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth for SDR.
YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live streams into multiple output formats for viewers. That does not remove the need to send a stable, valid feed from the encoder.
Test an all-day run before relying on it
- Use a private or unlisted test event and the same video or similar motion and audio planned for the real loop.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, audio, and stream health. Confirm the loop returns to its beginning cleanly.
- Let the test run long enough to reveal sustained problems. Watch encoder CPU/GPU use, temperature or throttling indicators available on the PC, network stability, and whether the local recording continues to grow.
- Test the exact upload connection and network arrangement you expect to use. Ethernet may make the PC-to-router link more predictable than Wi-Fi, but it cannot fix an ISP-side outage or insufficient upload capacity.
- Plan how you will respond to a failed connection, encoder crash, or power interruption. YouTube advises testing failover; a disruption on connectivity can break a stream.
YouTube’s streaming tips advise testing and checking stream health. Do not treat a short successful preview as proof that the setup will remain stable for an entire day.

Plan for power and internet interruptions
A UPS for the PC and router may bridge a brief local power interruption, but it cannot keep the broadcast running through an ISP outage, a YouTube interruption, or a battery runtime that is too short. YouTube does not prescribe a UPS size. Estimate the combined PC and router load, then use manufacturer runtime curves to choose equipment for the interruption you intend to cover; do not assume a UPS guarantees an all-day stream. A reliable connection and some upload headroom are still necessary.

YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. These are archive and rewind caveats, not a stated maximum broadcast duration. If a complete replay is important, record a local copy and verify during the broadcast that the file is being written and has adequate storage space.

Ending and restarting in shorter segments can make archives more manageable, but each restart creates a distinct stream and watch-page change and may interrupt viewers. Choose that approach only if the operational interruption is acceptable.
Copyright and channel policy checks
Before looping a video, confirm you have the rights or permissions needed for every visual and audio element, including music, performances, and third-party footage. A video being prerecorded or streamed for many hours does not make it exempt from copyright rules. Check YouTube’s notices and the Live Control Room during the test, and avoid presenting a continuous loop as original live activity if that would mislead viewers. YouTube’s monetization and reused-content decisions are separate from whether an encoder can transmit the stream; do not assume that a technically successful broadcast will qualify for monetization.

Or let it run in the cloud
If keeping a low-power PC running all day is the part you want to avoid, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a YouTube Live loop from the cloud. The steps are: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.

Costs and trade-offs
A local encoder avoids a playout subscription but depends on the PC, home power, network, and ongoing monitoring. Cloud playout avoids leaving the PC on but adds a service and account dependency; the stream still depends on YouTube and network availability. Compare your actual electricity use, backup needs, connection, and acceptable interruption risk rather than assuming one option is always cheaper.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not show the incoming feed | Live streaming is not enabled, the event is not ready, or the encoder has the wrong server URL or stream key. | Confirm channel eligibility and event status in YouTube Studio. Re-copy the event’s URL and key into the encoder, then start it again. |
| Stream health warns of instability or viewers see buffering | Bitrate is too high for sustained upload, other devices are using bandwidth, or the local network link is unstable. | Re-test upload under representative conditions, preserve YouTube’s 20% headroom, reduce bitrate or resolution, and test Ethernet if Wi-Fi is unreliable. |
| Video stutters or the PC becomes overloaded | The machine cannot sustain the selected codec, resolution, frame rate, or source playback workload. | Check encoder resource use during a long trial. Reduce output resolution or frame rate, or choose a codec the hardware supports, then repeat the test. |
| Audio is missing, distorted, or unexpectedly noisy | The wrong audio source is selected, levels are clipped, or other PC audio is entering the mix. | Check encoder audio routing and levels, listen to the Live Control Room preview, and remove unintended inputs. |
| The broadcast stops during a local outage | The PC or router lost power, the internet connection failed, or the encoder stopped. | Check which component failed. A suitably sized UPS may bridge a brief local power cut; it will not fix ISP or YouTube outages. Restart the encoder or event as appropriate and verify the new feed in Live Control Room. |
| The stream is available but no complete replay appears | The broadcast exceeded 12 hours, beyond which YouTube says an archive may not be captured. | Use a verified local recording when a complete replay is required, or plan shorter sessions if separate watch pages and interruptions are acceptable. |
