Yes—you can stream a podcast episode on YouTube over BSNL broadband. Create or schedule a YouTube Live event, send its stream URL and key from an encoder such as OBS, and choose settings your connection can sustain. The deciding factor is your actual upload speed at broadcast time—not the download speed or the headline speed on a BSNL plan.

What you need before you start

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming available.
  • The podcast episode file and permission to rebroadcast the episode and any music, clips, or other included material.
  • An encoder such as OBS Studio, plus the computer and connection you intend to use for the broadcast.
  • A measured, stable upload connection that can carry the video and audio bitrate with headroom.

You do not need a microphone, webcam, or capture card merely to rebroadcast an existing recorded episode. You can use a still image or other prepared visuals, or play the episode’s video through the encoder.

Can I live stream a podcast on YouTube with BSNL broadband?

Yes, if the connection at the streaming location can sustain the encoder’s outgoing bitrate. YouTube says the total bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Upload speed is often lower than download speed, and other people or devices using the connection can reduce what is available to your stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

BSNL plan names alone cannot answer whether a stream will be stable. TRAI says it does not prescribe one minimum broadband upload or download speed for all providers; consumers should check provider-declared typical speeds and measure their own connection. TRAI identifies its MySpeed app and portal as measurement options. The BharatNet FTTH plans page and a BSNL Chennai Bharat Fibre plan sheet updated 1 October 2025 are examples, not guarantees of your local availability or upload performance.

What upload speed do I need for YouTube Live?

Use YouTube’s H.264 video bitrate guidance as a starting point, then add audio bitrate and the recommended network headroom. These are encoder settings, not promised BSNL speeds. The following values are from YouTube’s live encoder settings:

Ingest resolution and frame rate Minimum video bitrate Recommended video bitrate
1080p30 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
720p30 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
480p30 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps

For example, a 720p30 stream at the recommended 8 Mbps video bitrate needs additional bandwidth for audio, plus room for fluctuations. A speed test result at or barely above the combined target is not enough to establish a reliable stream. If upload speed varies, other household or office traffic competes for bandwidth, or YouTube reports stream-health issues, lower the bitrate or resolution.

Measure the connection you will actually use

  1. Connect the intended streaming computer to the network you plan to use. A wired connection can reduce local wireless variability; it does not increase the upload rate provisioned by your ISP.
  2. Run an upload-speed test at the expected broadcast time. Repeat it if results vary, and consider whether other people will be using the connection during the episode.
  3. Choose a conservative encoder bitrate that stays below the sustained upload capacity, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom for the total stream bitrate.

Recommended encoder settings for a recorded podcast

YouTube recommends RTMPS, H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval of about two seconds (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. It lists 128 kbps stereo audio as an advanced setting. Configure the encoder to match the chosen resolution and frame rate; do not select a higher quality simply because the episode file supports it if the connection cannot sustain the required bitrate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Video codec: H.264 is a straightforward choice supported by YouTube’s listed bitrate table.
  • Rate control: CBR.
  • Keyframe interval: two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
  • Audio: AAC or MP3; YouTube lists 128 kbps stereo as an advanced setting.
  • Resolution and bitrate: select a combination from the table above that the measured upload connection can support with audio and headroom.

YouTube also lists H.265 and AV1 options. Use them only if your encoder supports them and you understand the workflow; H.264 avoids adding that compatibility variable. Full values and guidance are on YouTube’s encoder settings page.

How to stream a prerecorded podcast episode using OBS

  1. Confirm channel access and prepare the episode. Sign in to the intended YouTube channel and confirm live streaming is available. Prepare the episode video or visual layout, title, description, thumbnail, and credits. Make sure you have permission for the episode and any included music, clips, or other material.
  2. Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create a stream or schedule it for later. Scheduling gives you a watch page to share in advance. YouTube’s live stream settings include latency and DVR options. For a one-way podcast broadcast, normal latency is a reasonable starting point; lower latency can help real-time interaction but may increase buffering.
  3. Copy the stream URL and key. YouTube provides these in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it. YouTube explains the encoder connection in its encoder setup instructions.
  4. Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if using the built-in service option, or select a custom RTMPS service and enter the server URL and stream key if needed. OBS labels and available options can vary by version. Keep the key private.
  5. Set the video and audio output. In OBS output and video settings, set H.264, CBR, the bitrate, resolution, frame rate, and keyframe interval according to the guidance above and your tested connection. Route the episode’s video and audio into OBS and check that the audio meter responds without clipping.
  6. Rehearse privately or unlisted. Start a test stream with audio and movement similar to the actual episode. Check the YouTube preview, listen for clipping or sync problems, and watch stream health. If you need a local recording, confirm OBS is saving it and inspect the resulting file.
  7. Go live and monitor. Start streaming from OBS, confirm the preview and stream health in Live Control Room, then start the event as configured. Monitor the player and audio while it runs. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; after the broadcast, verify that the archive is available.

YouTube advises setting up the encoder ahead of time, testing before the event, and using audio and motion similar to the real stream. See its streaming tips and encoder setup guide.

Connection and stream troubleshooting

  • Dropped frames or buffering: The outgoing bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity, or the connection may be congested. Lower the video bitrate or resolution, stop competing uploads and downloads, and retest at the time you expect to broadcast.
  • Upload test looks good, but the stream is unstable: A speed test is a snapshot, not proof of sustained performance. Repeat it, account for shared network use, and try a wired connection if practical.
  • YouTube preview is blank or the event does not receive video: Check that OBS is sending to the correct event’s stream URL and that the stream key was copied correctly. Replace the key in OBS if it has changed.
  • Audio is missing, clipped, or out of sync: Confirm OBS is capturing the episode’s audio source, check its meter and playback level, then rehearse again and listen in the YouTube preview.
  • The stream key may have been exposed: Do not continue using a key that others may have copied. Replace or reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and update OBS.
  • Archive is missing: Check the event and channel after the stream ends. YouTube’s stated automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours.
