To run a live property tour on YouTube from a VPS in India, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, send the camera-and-audio feed to an encoder that can reach YouTube over RTMPS on port 443, and test the complete path before the tour. The VPS does not automatically connect to a camera at the property: the camera, local network and method of sending the feed to the remote encoder must work together.

Check YouTube Live readiness before tour day

Your channel must be verified and free of live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first time you enable live streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete this step well before the showing.

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube provides a server URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not expose it in public logs, screenshots or configuration shared with others; reset it if it is compromised.

Plan how the property feed reaches the VPS

The encoder can run on the VPS, but the source still has to reach it. The right contribution method depends on your camera or phone, the property’s internet connection, and the encoder software and workflow you choose. The available YouTube guidance does not prescribe one camera-to-VPS method or verify a specific provider, Indian city, route, VPS price or performance.

Before selecting a VPS, confirm that it can send RTMPS traffic to YouTube on port 443, has enough CPU or GPU capacity for the codec and resolution you intend to encode, and can be accessed by the operator during the tour. Test the entire camera-to-encoder-to-YouTube path at the actual location and expected time of use. Do not treat a provider’s advertised bandwidth as proof that this specific route will sustain your stream.

Configure the YouTube encoder connection

  1. In YouTube Studio, go to Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
  2. Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Keep the key private.
  3. Choose YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint where available. YouTube’s RTMPS requirements specify an rtmps URL, a valid ingestion server and application path, port 443, and RTMP carried over SSL. Confirm the VPS can establish outbound connections to that endpoint.
  4. Set the encoder’s video and audio parameters, then begin a test feed so the Live Control Room preview and stream-health information can be checked before the event.

YouTube recommends RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 as supported encoder video codecs. Its settings guidance also recommends constant bitrate encoding, up to 60 frames per second, and a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate.

Choose resolution and bitrate for the real connection

YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations include these common property-tour settings:

Output YouTube-recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps 4 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular camera uplink, VPS or route in India can sustain the selected rate. YouTube advises creators to run an upload speed test and test the real content. A property tour includes movement, changing light and spoken audio, so walk through representative rooms and indoor-to-outdoor transitions during the test, and leave practical capacity above the video bitrate on the source connection.

YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into output formats for viewers. Your chosen input resolution is therefore not the only playback format viewers may see, and a stable feed is more important than selecting the highest setting the hardware nominally supports.

Run a full rehearsal and prepare for show day

  1. Set up the encoder at least two hours before the planned live event, following YouTube’s operations guidance.
  2. Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before you begin presenting.
  3. In an unlisted or private test where appropriate, verify picture, sound, movement, stream health and the viewer-facing event page. Check access from a phone as well as the channel or watch page.
  4. Rehearse the actual tour route, including room transitions, outdoor areas and the speaking distance from the microphone. A wireless lavalier microphone kit is one optional way to capture narration while walking; it is not required or endorsed as a particular model by YouTube.
  5. Monitor audio and video continuously during the tour. If you have configured a backup encoder, test failover before the event; verify any local archive files after recording.
  6. When the tour is over, end the live event on YouTube and stop the encoder.

Account for permissions and site-specific rules

YouTube’s live-stream terms require compliance with applicable laws and the necessary rights and regulatory approvals in the territory where you stream. Obtain permission from the property owner or authorized representative before filming. Consider whether neighbors, passersby or other people could be captured, and check the requirements that apply to the exact site and equipment. The sources available here do not establish a single India-wide answer for filming inside a property, incidental capture of other people, or drone footage; do not assume that permission to access a property resolves every issue.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • You cannot enable Live: check channel verification and any live-streaming restrictions within the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: confirm that the stream key and server URL are correct, the key has not been reset, and the VPS can reach a valid RTMPS ingestion endpoint over port 443.
  • The preview buffers or stream health is poor: test the complete path again, including the source connection and VPS route. Reduce resolution or bitrate to a level the measured connection can sustain; a published YouTube recommendation is not proof of available bandwidth on your route.
  • Picture is present but narration is unclear or missing: test the actual microphone, encoder audio input, stereo codec settings and speaking distance during a rehearsal. Check audio monitoring continuously once live.
  • The stream works while stationary but degrades during the walk: repeat the test while moving through the actual route, including indoor-to-outdoor changes. The encoder and network need to handle the content as it will be filmed, not just a static shot.
  • The feed stops unexpectedly: check the Live Control Room and encoder status, restore the feed using the configured encoder workflow, and use a tested backup encoder if one is available. YouTube’s operations guidance recommends testing failover for a configured backup.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is for a different use case: it keeps uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream; it does not broadcast a live camera tour. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the playback running without a computer, OBS or home connection staying on. Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
