You can run a Tamil radio-style YouTube stream around the clock by feeding an encoder a continuous, rights-cleared audio playlist and monitoring the stream, connection, and local recording. Before you start, verify your channel, enable live streaming, and confirm that your music rights cover the recordings, compositions, territories, and live use you intend. YouTube does not provide those rights or guarantee uninterrupted playback.
What you need for a 24/7 Tamil YouTube radio stream
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- An encoder—software or hardware—that can send a continuous audio-and-video feed to YouTube. A static image can serve as the visual for a music-only station.
- A stable internet connection with upload capacity beyond the encoder’s bitrate, plus a plan for what to do if the connection or stream fails.
- A playlist of Tamil recordings you have permission to broadcast, with the necessary rights for the intended territories and any archived playback.
- Local storage and recording if you need your own copy of programs or need to manage YouTube’s archive limitations.
A microphone is optional: use one only if you plan live presenter segments, interviews, or spoken station promos.
1. Prepare the YouTube channel
- Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions from the previous 90 days.
- Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio before your planned launch. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until broadcast day.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Use the stream details there to obtain the server/stream URL and stream key for your encoder.
Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your live stream.

Make a repertoire and territory list first: identify the recordings and compositions you plan to use, where the broadcast will be available, whether you will retain or replay archives, and whether the feed includes other material such as jingles. The rights required depend on the repertoire, use, and applicable jurisdiction; there is no single blanket answer for every Tamil station.

YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects copyrighted material, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. A license does not necessarily prevent that automated interruption: even licensed music may require the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
Before using a licensing service or library, confirm that its current terms cover your specific Tamil repertoire, both recordings and compositions as applicable, continuous YouTube live use, relevant territories, archived playback, and any Content ID allowlisting needed. Do not assume a license for on-demand videos or background use also covers a 24/7 live station.

3. Configure and test the encoder
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and copy its server/stream URL and stream key.
- In the encoder, select an RTMP or RTMPS destination and enter the URL and key. Choose an output the connection can sustain reliably. YouTube lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio options for RTMP/RTMPS workflows.
- For a static station visual, configure a video output as well as audio, even if the image does not change. YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 720p at 30 fps is 3 Mbps; this is a reference for that video setting, not a universal requirement for every radio stream. A lower-resolution static visual may be suitable, but test the actual encoder and feed.
- Send a representative test feed and wait for YouTube’s preview. Check that audio is present, levels are sensible, the visual appears as expected, and the stream health indicators are stable before going live.
- Check that the local recording is being written and that its file is growing. Verify that the encoder and storage continue operating after the test has run for a meaningful period.
- Start the live stream from the Live Control Room when the preview is ready, then keep monitoring the encoder and YouTube stream health.
There is no one bitrate that suits every network or production. Select settings your measured upload can handle while other devices and services are using the connection. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; network interruptions can break a stream.

4. Plan continuity and recordings
Do not rely on YouTube’s archive for a continuous station
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a dependable program copy, record locally and monitor the recording file rather than treating the YouTube archive as your only copy.

Make a recovery plan without assuming seamless playback
Decide who will notice a failed feed, how the encoder will be restarted, and how you will create a replacement live session if needed. A local recording and a tested restart process help with recovery, but they do not guarantee uninterrupted playback or preserve one continuous YouTube archive. For archive behavior, consider whether your publishing workflow should use sessions that fit within YouTube’s documented limit.
Prepare the network and equipment
- Test the encoder and preview before launch, then check stream health and quality during operation.
- Measure upload capacity under normal household or studio sharing conditions; maintain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom above the stream’s needs.
- Monitor local recording storage and confirm files continue to grow.
- Consider backup connectivity and power only if the station’s operating needs justify the extra cost and complexity.
- For spoken presenter links or station promos, a USB microphone can make that part of the setup easier; it is not required for a music-only stream.
Common problems and fixes
