To keep Punjabi folk videos streaming on YouTube from an Indian VPS, clear the rights to every recording and visual, enable live streaming on an eligible YouTube channel, create a live event in YouTube Studio, and run an encoder such as FFmpeg on the VPS to send the video to YouTube over RTMPS. The VPS can keep the encoder running while your home computer is off, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. For a managed alternative that does not require a VPS, see the cloud option below.
Before you set up the stream: clear the rights
Do not assume a Punjabi folk song or video is free to rebroadcast because it is traditional, publicly viewable on YouTube, or credited to its artist. A particular recording can have rights separate from the underlying composition, and a music video can include additional audiovisual rights. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the broadcaster to have the necessary rights for the intended use, including worldwide exploitation where applicable.
For each item, confirm that your permission covers the live broadcast, the territories where it will be available, the planned duration, any YouTube archive or replay, and monetization if you intend to pursue it. Keep the permissions accessible. If you cannot document suitable rights, leave that track or visual out rather than testing it on a public stream. This is not a determination of the rights status of any specific song or recording.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match may lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination; even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the relevant rights owner about allowlisting where needed. Credit alone does not replace permission.

Check your channel and choose a broadcast plan
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Enable live streaming and confirm that YouTube Studio lets you create the kind of event you plan to send from an encoder.
Decide whether you need one continuing event or planned shorter broadcasts. A single long event is simpler to operate, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured as a YouTube archive at all. Shorter planned events make event boundaries and individual recordings easier to organize, but add work and do not guarantee uninterrupted viewing or complete archives. If a complete replay matters, plan a separate local recording regardless of event length.
Create the event and protect the stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming controls and create or schedule a live stream.
- Choose the encoder workflow and note the server or ingest address and stream key shown for that event. Use the RTMPS settings YouTube provides; RTMPS sends RTMP through an SSL connection.
- Store the key as a secret. Do not put it in a public script repository, screenshot, shell transcript, or article. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration.
- Keep the event and incoming feed conceptually separate: the broadcast is the particular event or video, while the stream is the audio-video feed your encoder sends to it. Studio is sufficient for a basic setup; using YouTube’s API is optional.
Prepare the media and VPS
Make a compatible, rights-cleared program file
A dependable beginner workflow is to assemble the cleared folk videos into a single, continuous program file before uploading it to the VPS. That avoids relying on an unverified playlist script to switch among files with different codecs, dimensions, frame rates, or audio layouts. Keep a copy of the source files and the final program, and confirm that the VPS account and disk have room for them.

If you use an FFmpeg concat playlist instead, prepare and test it with your actual files first. A playlist that combines mismatched media can fail at transitions or produce timestamp and playback problems. The encoder settings below describe YouTube’s guidance; they do not validate a particular playlist, FFmpeg build, service unit, or VPS size.
Choose output settings for the server you actually have
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingest. For H.264 video, use constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and do not exceed four seconds between keyframes. AAC or MP3 audio is accepted. YouTube supports output up to 60 frames per second; select resolution and frame rate based on the source and on sustained VPS CPU and network capacity, not on a desired label alone.
For H.264 at 720p and 30 fps, YouTube’s recommended bitrate is 8 Mbps, with a 3 Mbps minimum. At 1080p and 30 fps, the recommendation is 14 Mbps, with a 5 Mbps minimum. These are platform settings, not evidence that a particular Indian VPS plan can sustain them. Test the route to YouTube ingest and watch the Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators before relying on the stream.

Example FFmpeg command for a single program file
The following is a configuration template, not a tested or guaranteed command. It assumes a local file named folk-program.mp4 with compatible audio and video and an installed FFmpeg build that includes the listed encoders. Set YT_INGEST_URL to the exact RTMPS address and key configuration shown by YouTube for your event; do not publish the value.

It does not resize input video, so check that the program file’s dimensions match the output you want. If it is not 30 fps, lacks audio, uses incompatible codecs, or exceeds the VPS’s capacity, adapt and test the encode rather than assuming this template will work as-is. Confirm the exact ingest configuration in Studio; do not substitute a guessed URL.
For a first test, use a short, rights-cleared program with similar motion and audio to the eventual stream. Check the encoder output, VPS CPU and memory, network stability, YouTube stream health, and public playback. Resolve any dropped-frame, ingest, or audio/video-sync issues before leaving it unattended.

Keep the encoder running and recover deliberately
Run the encoder under a Linux process supervisor or service manager so it can be restarted if the process exits. Configure and verify restart behavior against your actual YouTube event and ingest settings; a process restart does not prove that the same event will resume cleanly, and reconnecting can still create a viewer interruption. Do not describe a VPS as a zero-interruption service.
- Watch FFmpeg logs for input read errors, encoder failures, and failed RTMPS connections.
- Monitor CPU, memory, disk space, and network drops; sustained encoding or a full disk can stop the process.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room health and confirm that the public player is receiving picture and sound.
- Test what happens after an encoder restart and after a temporary network interruption before relying on automated recovery.
Budget for outbound transfer as well as the VPS price. At 8 Mbps, the video payload is about 86.4 GB over 24 hours using decimal gigabytes, before protocol overhead. This is arithmetic based on a constant bitrate, not a VPS quota or a provider’s published allowance. Check the host’s included transfer, sustained egress rules, regional availability, and price before choosing a plan. No specific Indian VPS provider or plan is established here.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and recommends keeping a local backup. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete replay of a nonstop channel.

For a full record, configure a separate local recording and test it independently, including disk capacity and what happens if recording storage fills. Copy completed recordings to separate storage if you need another copy; an external hard drive is an optional backup, not a requirement for sending the stream from a VPS.
Understand the monetization trade-off
Copyright permission and eligibility for monetization are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policies treat repetitive or mass-produced content as potentially inauthentic, and reused content must add meaningful original value. The channel is evaluated as a whole; owning rights to the media alone does not establish eligibility. Original curation, context, presentation, or programming may strengthen the channel’s editorial value, but does not guarantee acceptance into or continued participation in a monetization program. Check the current YouTube Partner Program rules for your channel.
