You can run a continuous Malayalam movie-song playlist from an Indian VPS by first securing rights for every recording and composition, then configuring an encoder on the VPS to send a looped playlist to YouTube over RTMPS. An Indian server does not provide music rights or guarantee a better YouTube connection. If the rights are not cleared for the live stream, do not start it.
Clear the rights before you configure the stream
A VPS is only a computer hosted in a data centre. It does not grant permission to broadcast the music stored on it. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. YouTube does not clear Malayalam film songs for you.
For each song, establish that your permissions cover the actual sound recording and the underlying musical and literary works, as applicable. Confirm that they cover an online YouTube livestream, the territories where the stream can be viewed, its duration, monetization if planned, and any saved or replayable version. The sources do not identify who owns the rights to any particular Malayalam film song, so check with the relevant rightsholders rather than assuming a song has one licensor.
- The Government of India’s Copyright Act, 1957, Chapter I defines communication to the public broadly to include making a work or performance available by display or diffusion, whether or not anyone actually sees, hears, or enjoys it. That statutory definition is not a legal ruling on an individual stream; seek qualified legal advice for a dispute or commercial operation.
- IPRS licensing guidance describes licences for repertoire it administers and distinguishes underlying works from sound-recording rights. Check whether the songs and uses you plan are within the relevant licence’s scope.
- PPL India’s tariffs and licensing guidance distinguish on-ground use from digital use; its on-ground licence does not authorize digital use, and its guidance directs users to labels for digital use. Do not assume a venue or public-performance licence clears a YouTube stream.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may prompt a warning and placeholder image, then interrupt or terminate the stream if the content remains. Even if you hold a licence, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruptions. Ask the rightsholder about the allowlisting process and confirm that the permission covers your channel and stream. Owning a file, having permission to upload it, or holding a licence does not by itself guarantee uninterrupted live transmission. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Creator Music is not a workaround: YouTube says its licensing and revenue-sharing tracks are for long-form videos, not live streams, and that it does not support licensing for live content. See Creator Music usage details and the Creator Music FAQ.
Plan the VPS and encoder
YouTube’s published setup guidance does not require the VPS to be in India. The server’s location alone does not establish rights compliance, reliable ingest, low latency, or lower cost. Choose a VPS only after checking the provider’s current regional availability, sustained outbound capacity, monthly transfer limits and charges, permitted use, restart behavior, monitoring, and the CPU or hardware encoding support you need. No particular provider or current VPS plan is established here.

You need an encoder running on the VPS, an authorized audio playlist, and a visual that you are also permitted to use. A graphical VPS with a desktop environment can run a GUI encoder such as OBS; an appropriate alternative is an encoder that supports YouTube’s published ingest settings. Confirm the operating system, display access, audio playback, and encoder support with your VPS provider. A static image does not clear rights in the songs or in the image itself.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Before choosing a video setting, estimate the bitrate your VPS must sustain. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the stream bitrate in available upload capacity. For example, its recommended 8 Mbps video bitrate for 720p at 30 fps calls for at least 9.6 Mbps of available sustained capacity using that headroom rule, before accounting for other outbound traffic. This is a planning calculation from YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee of performance. If primary and backup streams are both active, include both in the bandwidth calculation.

Configure YouTube and the encoder
- Confirm the channel can go live. Sign in to the channel you will use and check its current live-stream eligibility in YouTube. Eligibility and interface details can change, so resolve any channel prompts or restrictions in YouTube before setting up the VPS. Do not use another channel to get around an active restriction; see YouTube’s restriction guidance.
- Create or manage the live stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it in a screenshot, configuration file accessible to others, or public chat. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Choose RTMPS and an encoder profile. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its documented video codec options include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, up to 60 fps; for RTMP/RTMPS it lists AAC or MP3 audio. Use constant bitrate encoding and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into output formats for viewers. For a standard music playlist, RTMPS is the straightforward choice; YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency because it sends segments rather than a continuous stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
- Set a resolution and bitrate. The following are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, not guaranteed results for every VPS route or viewer:
| Video setting | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
YouTube recommends stereo audio at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Choose settings that the VPS can encode and upload continuously; a higher resolution is not automatically better if the server or network cannot sustain it.
- Add the playlist and visual. In the encoder, add only recordings you are authorized to stream and set the media source or playlist to repeat. Add a visual only if you have permission to use it. Check that the audio is audible, plays in the intended order, and returns cleanly to the start of the playlist. Ensure the loop has no unintended gaps or abrupt changes.
- Start with a private test. Use a private or unlisted test stream where available, with representative audio and movement. Preview it in Live Control Room, check stream health, listen for dropouts, and verify the picture and sound. YouTube recommends testing with content similar to the real stream. Confirm that the VPS has sustained upload capacity with the recommended headroom before switching to the intended audience.
- Go live and monitor it. Start the encoder output and verify that Live Control Room receives a healthy feed before making the stream public. Monitor audio continuity, stream health, VPS resource use, outbound traffic, and reconnect behavior. Keep the stream key private and make a plan for restarting the encoder or VPS if either stops.

Keep copyright, archives, and monetization separate
Rights to broadcast a song live do not necessarily establish rights to keep a replay, make a separate recording, or monetize either use. Confirm those rights and YouTube permissions independently with the relevant rightsholders. Likewise, permission to use music is not a guarantee that a channel or video will qualify for monetization: copyright clearance and YouTube’s channel and monetization policies are separate questions. Do not assume that a continuous playlist automatically meets those policies.

- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the encoder is using the intended RTMPS server and the current stream key, that the key was pasted without extra spaces, and that the VPS can make outbound connections. Replace an exposed or outdated key in YouTube and update the encoder.
- The feed starts but drops or buffers: Compare the stream’s total bitrate with sustained VPS upload capacity, preserving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check transfer limits, network congestion, CPU/GPU load, and whether another process or backup stream is using bandwidth. Reduce the bitrate or resolution if the VPS cannot sustain the selected profile.
- The stream stops after a copyright warning: Do not evade a restriction by restarting through another channel. Review YouTube’s notice, stop the affected content, and resolve the issue with the relevant rights holder. If the stream was licensed, confirm the exact scope and ask whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting.
- The image works but the music is silent or cuts out: Check the encoder’s audio source, output device, playlist file paths, and loop settings on the VPS. Test from the beginning through the playlist transition and confirm the stream’s audio meter moves before going public.
- The stream key appears in public: Treat it as compromised. Replace it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the VPS encoder before streaming again.
- The VPS restarts or the encoder exits: Check the provider’s restart and monitoring options and configure a recovery plan appropriate to its operating system and encoder. Test recovery rather than assuming a VPS will restart the stream automatically.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the music rights are cleared and you would rather not maintain an encoder on a VPS, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload the authorized recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay running at home; uploads stream as made, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. India-based users can pay by UPI or card. StreamNeo does not clear music or image rights, so get the same permissions and confirm any allowlisting needed before streaming.
