You can run a prerecorded Hindi-video playlist to YouTube Live from a DigitalOcean Droplet by running an encoder on the server and sending its output to YouTube’s ingest URL with your stream key. The Droplet keeps the sending process off your personal computer, but you must maintain the server, monitor the stream, budget for outbound data, and plan for YouTube sessions that may need to be restarted. YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee that one live session can run indefinitely.
How the setup works
A DigitalOcean Droplet is a cloud Linux server. Your playlist and encoder run there; the encoder pushes video and audio to YouTube Live using the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Viewers watch through YouTube, not by connecting to the Droplet directly.
This is a do-it-yourself server workflow, not a turnkey playlist feature. You need to choose and configure software that can play your particular files as a continuous playlist, keep it running, and handle interruptions. The sources cited here establish YouTube’s ingest workflow and settings, but do not validate a particular playlist command, file format, Droplet size, or automatic restart configuration. Treat those as implementation choices to test on your own system rather than as guaranteed steps.

Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility before paying for server time or preparing a launch: YouTube’s live-streaming enablement guidance.

Clear every video and audio right
A playlist being available online does not mean you can rebroadcast it. Before streaming Hindi film songs, commercially released music, devotional recordings, or any other third-party material, secure the rights needed for worldwide live use, including applicable music licenses. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt a stream that matches protected material. Even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s terms put the responsibility on the channel owner: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube livestream terms and conditions and resolve rights questions before going public.
Create the YouTube ingest destination
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live stream and choose its visibility and other stream details there.
- In the stream settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Enter these in the encoder running on the Droplet, using the encoder’s YouTube/RTMP destination settings. Prefer the secure RTMPS ingest URL when the encoder supports it.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not put it in a public repository, screenshot, shared configuration, or logs. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
YouTube documents the encoder connection process in its live encoder setup guide. Exact labels can change as Studio is updated, so use the current Live Control Room values rather than copying an ingest URL or key from another channel.
Prepare the DigitalOcean Droplet and playlist process
Create a Linux Droplet in your DigitalOcean account, then install and configure an encoder and playlist workflow that supports your source media and can push to YouTube’s ingest destination. The right software and commands depend on the operating system, codec, playlist format, audio tracks, and how you want transitions to work. The official setup guidance cited here does not establish a minimum server size, a specific Ubuntu release, firewall rules, a tested FFmpeg command, or a service manager configuration; verify those details against the software you select.

Before treating the setup as 24/7, decide how you will detect and recover from two different failures: the encoder process stopping on the Droplet, and YouTube ending or disconnecting the live session. A process supervisor can address a crashed local process, but that alone does not prove the YouTube session has resumed. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise indefinite operation of one session. Build and test a session transition or restart procedure, and monitor both the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room.
Choose encoder settings and test the feed
Do not pick a bitrate by habit or use one universal value for every Hindi playlist. Select the bitrate from YouTube’s current recommendations for the chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. See the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrates table for the applicable video and audio values.
- Match the encoder’s codec, resolution, and frame rate to the media you intend to stream and use the corresponding bitrate in YouTube’s table.
- Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval where the encoder exposes those controls; keep the interval at four seconds or less.
- Use RTMPS if available, and verify that the encoder is sending to the exact URL and key for the intended Live Control Room event.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Confirm that the video moves, audio is audible and synchronized, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream. Check playback on a phone as well as a desktop before announcing the public stream.
- Test what happens when the encoder is stopped and restarted, and separately test how you will start a new YouTube session when the current one ends. Do not assume a successful local process restart automatically restores the same live event.
Estimate DigitalOcean bandwidth charges
Continuous video can consume substantial outbound transfer. DigitalOcean pools the included outbound transfer allowance across Droplets at the team level; additional outbound transfer is billed at $0.01 per GiB in the current Droplet pricing documentation. Check your team’s actual included allowance, usage, and current billing before choosing a bitrate or leaving a stream running. The overage figure is not a complete monthly server price and does not account for the Droplet plan itself.

For a rough estimate, convert the encoder’s output bitrate into bytes per second, multiply by the hours streamed, and then convert bytes to GiB. For example, a constant 4 megabits per second output is about 1.8 gigabytes of video data per hour using decimal units, before protocol overhead; a full 30-day month at that rate is roughly 1.3 terabytes. Actual billed transfer depends on usage measurement, overhead, and the account’s pooled allowance, so treat this as a planning estimate and verify against DigitalOcean’s current Droplet pricing and transfer information.
DIY DigitalOcean or a cloud playlist service?
DigitalOcean gives you control over the Linux host and software, but you are responsible for server setup, playlist behavior, monitoring, recovery, and transfer costs. A managed service trades some host-level control for a workflow designed around prerecorded streams. YouTube’s encoder guidance names Gyre as a cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded-video option, but current pricing and detailed feature comparisons are not established here; check the provider’s current terms before choosing it.
