You can run a Hindi video playlist as a continuous YouTube Live stream by storing the files on a Linode virtual machine, running an encoder that loops them, and sending its output to YouTube with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. You must keep the server, encoder process, files and network connection working, monitor the feed, and have the rights to stream every video and audio track. The exact playlist command depends on the encoder and media files; the steps below explain the setup without presenting an unverified command as guaranteed.
Before you start: channel eligibility and content rights
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
Clear the entire playlist for live use
Check rights for every recording, performance, video and audio track, including music. Owning a local copy or being able to play a file does not establish permission to stream it. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the content provider to hold the rights needed for the live content, including music rights: YouTube Terms of Service.
YouTube scans live feeds for third-party content. A match can result in a warning, placeholder, interruption or termination; even licensed content may require the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and ask the rights holder about allowlisting where applicable. Hindi-language content is subject to the same rules; check the relevant rights for the specific recordings and territories.

Choose a Linode setup that fits the stream
Decide whether to transcode or pass through
Your Linux instance needs access to the playlist files and a media process that can send a continuous feed to YouTube. If files already match the output settings YouTube accepts, passing through or remuxing compatible media may need less CPU than transcoding. Re-encoding video adds processing load. Measure the actual workload rather than assuming a plan will handle it.
Account for CPU, storage and outbound transfer
Linode, now part of Akamai Cloud, provides virtual machines with different plan families, Linux distributions and plan-dependent metered outbound transfer. Choose based on the encoder’s measured CPU and RAM use, the playlist’s disk requirements and the data sent out continuously. See Akamai’s compute plan guidance and check the current plan details and availability for your region before provisioning.

Akamai’s plan overview lists Shared CPU plans starting at $5/month and Dedicated CPU plans starting at $36/month; these are listed starting prices, not a recommendation for a particular stream, and availability and pricing can vary. Verify current details on Akamai’s pricing page. Compare expected outbound use with the transfer allowance and any applicable overage terms. For a rough data estimate, multiply the stream bitrate in megabits per second by the number of seconds streamed, then divide by eight to estimate megabytes before accounting for overhead.

Use the old RTMP guide as an example, not a sizing promise
A Linode-maintained guide demonstrates NGINX RTMP and FFmpeg on Ubuntu 20.04. It mentions a 1 GB instance as potentially sufficient for one stream in that guide’s scenario, but that is an older, scenario-specific estimate—not a current guarantee for a 24/7 playlist or transcoding workload. See the Linode NGINX RTMP guide. An RTMP relay is optional if your encoder can send directly to YouTube.
Set up the server and playlist process
- Create the instance. In Akamai Cloud, create a compute instance with a supported Linux distribution. Select a plan using the CPU, memory, storage and transfer considerations above; there is no universal plan size for every bitrate or encoding workload.
- Secure access and place the media. Configure administrator access appropriately, install current packages using the distribution’s supported instructions, and make sure the playlist files remain readable by the account running the encoder. Keep a separate copy of important source files if losing the instance’s disk would be a problem.
- Choose the media path. Use a playlist-capable encoder or media process configured to repeat the desired files in order. The exact loop syntax and behavior depend on the software, file formats and whether it can pass through or must transcode them. Confirm transitions, audio and file readability with a short test before leaving it unattended.
- Choose direct output or a relay. If the encoder can publish to YouTube, send it directly to YouTube. Add NGINX RTMP only if your architecture needs a relay layer; it introduces another service to configure and monitor, and is not required by YouTube’s encoder workflow.
- Arrange restart and monitoring behavior. Decide how the encoder should restart after an exit or host reboot, and monitor process status, CPU and memory use, file access, network transfer and the incoming YouTube preview. Process managers, restart policies and monitoring tools are implementation choices, not requirements prescribed by YouTube or Linode.
Create the YouTube event and configure the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Create or schedule an encoder-based live stream in the channel’s live control room. YouTube’s walkthrough is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event into the encoder’s output settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in screenshots, logs or commands shared publicly.
- Set compatible output. Prefer RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed four seconds. Follow the current resolution-specific bitrate guidance in YouTube’s encoder settings reference; choose output that the source, encoder and available upload capacity can sustain.
- Leave network headroom. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate. A connection that merely matches the target bitrate can be vulnerable to congestion or variation; check the server’s outbound network path as well as the encoder settings.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Begin publishing from the Linode process, then verify that YouTube receives video and audio in the Live Control Room. Complete the event’s start step if Studio asks you to. Watch the preview for picture, sound, stability and playlist transitions before relying on the stream.
Keep the stream running and plan for recovery
A self-managed Linode does not guarantee a particular 24/7 availability level. Monitor the encoder process, server resources, file readability, outbound network and YouTube preview. Set up a way to detect a stopped process or failed input, and decide how to restart it. After a host, process or network interruption, confirm the encoder reconnects and the YouTube event is receiving the feed again.

YouTube recommends preparing the encoder ahead of a live event and monitoring audio and video quality. Keep the stream bitrate within the sustained network capacity and retain the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. A restart plan cannot fix a corrupted or unreadable file, an expired or incorrect stream key, insufficient transfer capacity, or a copyright interruption; diagnose the actual cause before restarting repeatedly.
Archive length also matters: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one uninterrupted stream of arbitrary duration will be saved as one video. If an archive is important, plan stream segments and confirm current archive behavior in YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows no incoming signal | Encoder is stopped, server URL or key is wrong, or outbound connection is failing. | Check the encoder process and output logs, re-copy the event’s URL and key from Studio, and verify outbound connectivity. Keep the key private. |
| Preview stutters or drops frames | Network capacity is insufficient or variable, or the server is overloaded while encoding. | Check sustained bandwidth and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Inspect CPU use; if transcoding is saturating the instance, reduce the workload or choose a plan based on measured demand. |
| Video arrives but audio is missing or wrong | Input file audio, encoder mapping or output settings are unsuitable. | Test each playlist item locally or with a short private/unlisted test event, inspect the selected audio track and confirm audible sound in YouTube’s preview. |
| Playlist stops at the end or between files | The media process is not configured to loop, a file cannot be read, or the transition is unsupported. | Check the encoder’s playlist and repeat behavior, permissions and file formats. Test a full loop before making the stream continuous. |
| Live feed is interrupted with a copyright notice | YouTube detected third-party content or a licensed channel is not allowlisted. | Review the notice, confirm live-stream rights for the matched material, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume restarting resolves the rights issue. |
| Stream does not archive as expected | The stream may exceed YouTube’s stated automatic archive duration. | Use planned segments if an archive is required and verify current behavior in YouTube’s encoder documentation; automatic archiving is stated for streams under 12 hours. |
