You can run recorded Orthodox services as a continuous YouTube broadcast by creating a YouTube live event, sending its stream key and server URL from an encoder or cloud service, and setting the playback source to repeat a service or playlist. Before launch, confirm live-stream eligibility, test the full video and audio path, and secure permission for every recording and piece of music. A local computer-based setup also depends on uninterrupted power and internet; plan monitoring and recovery rather than assuming the stream will stay online by itself.
Choose how the stream will run
YouTube accepts live video from software or hardware encoders. The encoder sends a feed to YouTube; a playback system must supply and repeat the recorded services. YouTube’s setup guidance explains the ingest connection, but does not prescribe one universal method for looping prerecorded video.

YouTube’s encoder directory includes products from third parties; YouTube says verified encoder products are not made by YouTube. No particular encoder is required. For a church with volunteers, compare the actual operating responsibilities—not just the initial setup—before deciding.

- Verify the YouTube channel if it has not already been verified.
- Check that live streaming is available and the channel has had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, as required by YouTube’s current live-stream tips.
- If this is the channel’s first live stream, enable the feature well before the planned start: YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
These checks are best completed before scheduling a service. A channel that is not yet eligible cannot be made ready by configuring an encoder alone.

Schedule the YouTube event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live, then create or schedule the stream.
- Choose the event’s audience and privacy settings. Review the available DVR, latency, auto-start, and auto-stop settings for the intended service and operating plan.
- Copy the stream server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio into the encoder’s connection settings. Select RTMPS if the encoder supports it.
- Treat the stream key like a password: only enter it in the intended encoder, keep it out of public notes or screenshots, and reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- In the playback system, set the recorded service—or a playlist of services—to repeat. Confirm the transition from the end of one item to the next, including whether there is a gap, silence, or unintended content.
- Start a private or otherwise limited test stream first. Confirm the preview and watch page show the expected picture and sound before using the setup for a public broadcast.
YouTube documents the connection workflow and event settings, but the looping control belongs to the chosen playback system. Verify that system’s repeat behavior directly; do not assume that creating a YouTube event makes its source loop.
Set video quality and leave network headroom
Choose resolution and frame rate based on the source recording and the encoder’s capabilities. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings table for the bitrate recommendation that matches the selected resolution and frame rate; do not choose a bitrate in isolation from those settings.

- Configure constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS where supported, in line with YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Allow at least 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s total bitrate, as YouTube recommends. Other devices using the same connection can reduce available upload capacity.
- Test with representative motion and audio. Check that spoken prayers, chants, and music remain intelligible and that moving images do not break up.
- Check the YouTube preview and the public watch page on a phone as well as the operator’s monitor; a technically live feed can still have a practical audio or viewing problem.
Consult YouTube’s current recommendations before launch, because its bitrate table and encoder guidance may change.

Clear rights for the recordings and music
The channel operator is responsible for having the necessary rights for live and archived material. Confirm permission for the service recordings and every included element that may be protected, such as music, translations, readings, or third-party recordings. A recording being available to the parish or congregation does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it worldwide on YouTube.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. If it detects a match, it may replace the broadcast with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate the stream. If a rights holder has licensed material for use, ask whether the channel must also be added to that rights holder’s Content ID allowlist; YouTube warns that a license alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.
Plan monitoring, recovery, and archives
- Assign a person to check the stream during operation, including picture, sound, and whether the intended service is still playing.
- Plan what to do if the playback system, encoder, computer, power, or internet connection fails. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover; a test can reveal recovery gaps but does not guarantee uninterrupted availability.
- If recording locally, check that the archive file is actively growing and that its audio and video are usable.
- YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder instructions do not establish automatic archiving for broadcasts longer than 12 hours, so keep a separate recording if a complete copy matters.
