You can run a comedy podcast rerun stream on YouTube by sending a playlist through an encoder connected to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. For an all-day broadcast you want archived, end and restart the stream before it reaches 12 hours: YouTube warns that a longer stream may not be captured at all. Check rights for every episode element, use an encoder and upload connection that can sustain the chosen quality, and keep local recordings because neither uninterrupted uptime nor a complete YouTube archive is guaranteed.

Before you start: check channel eligibility and episode rights

Confirm the channel can livestream

YouTube lists channel verification, no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and a streamer age of at least 16 among its prerequisites. Check the current eligibility details in YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guide before scheduling.

Inventory the rights in each episode

Podcast distribution rights do not necessarily include YouTube video or livestream rights. Review the spoken material, guest clips, music, intro and outro, artwork, and sponsor or advertising reads. Keep licenses and permissions accessible. YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted material; a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist even if you have a license. YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt it, or terminate it if a match remains. A claim can also be made against an archived live stream after it ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Prepare a rerun playlist viewers can follow

Arrange episodes in a deliberate order rather than feeding an arbitrary folder into the encoder. Consider episode length, recurring characters or themes, and whether a late-arriving viewer can understand what is playing. An episode label, now-playing card, or clear stream description can help viewers navigate the program. These are editorial choices, not guarantees of recommendation or monetization.

Make it clear that the channel is replaying podcast episodes. YouTube monetization reviewers assess a channel’s overall content, including live streams, titles, descriptions, and channel information. A consistent visual layout may make a feed legible, but a static overlay or playlist alone does not make reruns original or ensure approval.

Create the YouTube live event and connect an encoder

  1. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream. Scheduling can give viewers a watch page to share and an option to set a reminder.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key. In the event’s stream settings, copy both values into the corresponding server or ingest URL and stream-key fields in your encoder. Follow the encoder’s instructions for loading your episode playlist and looping playback.
  3. Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not put it in public notes, screenshots, or shared documents. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement.
  4. Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Confirm the correct picture, audio, and event appear in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and then select Go Live when ready. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the workflow; exact labels can change.

Choose video settings and verify upload capacity

Pick a resolution and frame rate your encoder and sustained upload connection can handle. Upload speed—not download speed—limits what you can send. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom and accounting for both primary and backup streams. Test with representative episode audio and video before the scheduled broadcast, then review the stream-health indicators in Live Control Room.

YouTube’s encoder settings guide, reviewed in 2026, lists RTMP/RTMPS delivery, H.264, H.265, and AV1 options depending on protocol and encoder support, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Use a codec only if your encoder supports it; these recommendations are not a guarantee that a connection with matching nominal speed will remain stable.

1080p30 codec YouTube-listed minimum bitrate YouTube-listed recommended bitrate
H.264 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
AV1 or H.265 4 Mbps 10 Mbps

These figures are YouTube’s encoder recommendations for 1080p30, not observed performance results. See the current YouTube live encoder settings for other resolutions and supported configurations.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?

Do not rely on YouTube to archive a 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; for longer broadcasts it warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The archive behavior is not a substitute for keeping each original episode or a local recording. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Choose a schedule that matches your archive needs

Approach Best fit Trade-off
One session shorter than 12 hours A one-off all-day event when a YouTube archive is desired You need a planned end and restart for another session, and should manage the handoff.
Repeating shorter sessions Daily or ongoing programming where separate event pages and archives are useful More event setup and monitoring; each session has its own live event and potential archive.
Continuous encoder feed with API-managed broadcast events Technical teams that need to manage viewer-facing events separately from an encoder feed More operational and development complexity; it does not remove archive, copyright, or availability limits.

YouTube’s developer documentation describes 24/7 broadcast use cases and distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the encoder’s stream feed. That is an architecture option for technical teams, not a promise that a stream will never disconnect. See YouTube’s broadcast lifecycle documentation.

Monitor the broadcast and preserve the episodes

  • Open the public player on a separate device or connection to confirm viewers can see and hear the stream.
  • Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health information and check audio levels and picture quality, especially after starting or changing settings.
  • Keep a local recording if you need a copy of the broadcast, and verify that its file is growing. Keep original episode files separately if each episode must remain available.
  • Plan who will respond to a dropped connection or failed handoff. YouTube’s guidance recommends a local archive backup; do not assume that a long stream will be saved in full.

For troubleshooting, first check whether the encoder is still sending, whether the stream key and event match, and whether upload capacity is sufficient. If the event has ended or the stream key was reset, update the encoder in Studio before reconnecting. If YouTube reports a copyright match, resolve it with the rights holder or stop the affected material; a license alone may not prevent automated interruption without Content ID allowlisting.

Can you monetize podcast reruns?

Possessing or licensing the episodes does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval. YouTube applies its reused-content and inauthentic-content policies at channel level, including to livestreams. Reused content may be ineligible when material from YouTube or elsewhere is repurposed without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Repetitive or mass-produced output may be considered inauthentic. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content”; YouTube said the reused-content policy did not change. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and make the show’s authorship and added value clear without assuming that presentation changes guarantee monetization.
