You can run a 24/7 YouTube stream of relaxing music without leaving your computer on by using a cloud livestream service that stores and plays your uploaded media. A regular cloud drive is not enough: a live encoder or playout service must fetch the files, assemble the audio and video, and send the continuous feed to YouTube.

Choose how the stream will run

There are two practical setups. A cloud livestream service handles playout from media you upload, while a do-it-yourself setup runs an encoder on a computer or hosted virtual machine (VM). YouTube’s encoder directory and setup guide describes both OBS and cloud services such as Gyre for prerecorded continuous streams.

Approach What it does What you must manage
Cloud livestream service Stores uploaded media, plays a playlist, and sends the live feed to YouTube. Upload capacity, service settings, stream-key security, and the provider’s cost and controls.
OBS on a computer or VM Plays your media and encodes it for YouTube from the machine where OBS runs. The machine, playback, encoder, internet connection, recovery, and stream key must remain available and be monitored.

OBS is free and open source, but the computer or VM running it still has to stay online. A hosted VM can move that responsibility off your home computer, but you still need to configure and maintain the encoder and its media playback. A cloud service can reduce that operating work; it does not guarantee more viewers or monetization.

What “from cloud storage” actually means

Google Drive, Dropbox, or another ordinary file store holds media files; storage alone does not create a live broadcast. The streaming system needs to retrieve and decode the files, assemble a continuous audio-and-video program, encode it, and transmit it to YouTube. A cloud playout service may require you to upload media into its own storage. Do not assume it can stream directly from a third-party drive unless that provider documents the integration.

Clear the music rights before uploading

Make sure the music license expressly covers public YouTube livestreaming, the territories where viewers may watch, monetization if you plan to earn from the stream, and any archived recording. “Royalty-free” by itself does not confirm those rights. Keep the license and any permission records.

YouTube says that all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match remains, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent a live interruption. Ask the rights holder about allowlisting and retain confirmation. YouTube also says claims may be made on archived live streams after they end. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Prepare a playlist that can run continuously

  1. Gather cleared source files. Use only music and visuals you have permission to broadcast. Keep a separate backup of the original files.
  2. Choose the visual format. Pair the music with a still image, animation, or video only if you have the necessary rights. Check that the visual and audio play together as intended.
  3. Build a playlist. Add enough variety to avoid an unpleasantly short repeat, and check how tracks transition at the end and when the playlist loops. There is no established ideal playlist length; choose one that suits the music and listening experience.
  4. Check service storage and media limits. Cloud providers set their own storage and plan limits, which can change. Confirm that your files fit before uploading and that you can replace or remove them when needed.

Gyre’s product page describes uploading media to its storage, creating a playlist, connecting YouTube, and starting a broadcast; it also says its converter optimizes uploaded files and its playlist loops automatically. Those are vendor-described features, not independent performance findings. Check Gyre’s current plans and limits directly because plan details can change.

Create the YouTube broadcast and connect the encoder

  1. Enable live streaming ahead of time. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live and follow the prompts to create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. YouTube says first-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. The current workflow is documented in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
  2. Copy the stream URL and key. In Live Control Room, retrieve the server URL and stream key for the broadcast. Enter them in OBS or in the cloud service’s YouTube connection settings. Treat the key like a password: do not post it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, regenerate it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  3. Use a secure ingest option. If the encoder offers RTMPS, choose it rather than an unencrypted RTMP connection. Google documents RTMPS as RTMP over SSL and specifies a valid endpoint, port 443, and an SNI hostname for authentication; a managed service may handle these connection details for you. See Google’s RTMPS documentation.
  4. Start with a private or unlisted test. Preview the stream in Live Control Room before making it public. Listen for clean audio, watch for synchronization problems, and check the playlist transition and YouTube’s stream-health display.
  5. Schedule or publish the public stream. Once the test works, use the visibility and scheduling controls in Live Control Room to start the public broadcast. Tell viewers what the stream contains, and avoid describing it as licensed or copyright-safe unless your permissions support that claim.

DIY route: run a looping playlist with OBS

With OBS, your playback machine is the playout system. It must remain powered, connected, and able to run OBS for the entire broadcast. YouTube’s encoder catalog lists OBS, and the OBS Project’s March 2024 release notes mention YouTube-specific features in OBS 30.1 and a Live Control Room panel in OBS 30.0; these are version-specific release details, not requirements to use those versions.

  • Always Fast: No slowdowns for large file transfers. With SLC caching (25% of current available capacity allocated as high-speed cache), this external SSD delivers steady 10Gbps for transfers within the cache capacity
  1. Install OBS and prepare your scene. Create a scene, then add the cleared media as a media source. Configure the source to loop if you want one file to repeat, or arrange multiple media sources in a playlist using the playback controls available in your OBS version. Confirm that the intended audio source is audible in OBS.
  2. Connect to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, then connect your account or enter the server and stream key from Live Control Room. The exact connection options can vary by OBS version and account setup. Keep the key private.
  3. Check output before going live. Verify the output resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings in OBS, then use YouTube’s stream-health feedback during a private or unlisted test. The sources here do not establish one bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval that is right for every video and connection; use YouTube’s current recommendations for your chosen output and check the actual stream for dropped frames or other warnings.
  4. Keep the system available. Disable sleep that would stop OBS or playback, maintain a stable network connection, and monitor the computer or VM and encoder. If the machine loses power, the network fails, or OBS stops, the live feed can fail until you restore it.

These same setup principles apply if OBS runs on a hosted VM instead of a home computer, but a VM is still a machine you must provision, configure, and maintain. Do not treat moving OBS to a VM as the equivalent of a fully managed cloud playout service.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the media from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; the first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It is for prerecorded uploads, not a live camera feed.

Plan around YouTube’s archive limit

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that documented window, so do not expect one uninterrupted day-long stream to be saved as a complete replay. If a replay matters, consider scheduling shorter broadcast segments and keeping your source playlist separately. Confirm the current archive behavior in YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • The stream does not start. Check whether YouTube live streaming is enabled, whether the activation period has elapsed for a first-time setup, and whether the correct stream URL and key were entered in the encoder.
  • YouTube reports an ingest or connection problem. Verify the endpoint and key, check the encoder’s connection status and internet access, and choose RTMPS if available. If the key may have been exposed, regenerate it in Live Control Room and replace it in the encoder.
  • The stream stops when you leave. In a DIY setup, check for computer sleep, power loss, OBS shutdown, VM interruption, or network failure. A cloud playout service avoids dependence on your home computer, but its own service, account, and media configuration still matter.
  • Music is muted, replaced, or interrupted. Review the rights for every track and visual, including live, monetization, territory, and archive permissions. Contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting; a license alone may not prevent an automated live interruption.
  • The playlist does not loop or a track is missing. Confirm the playlist order, source playback settings, upload completion, and the service’s supported file and storage limits. Test transitions before announcing the stream.
  • The replay is incomplete or absent. A continuous stream exceeds YouTube’s stated automatic-archive window for streams under 12 hours. Use shorter scheduled segments if a replay is needed, and retain the original source files.
