You can technically send a continuous League of Legends video feed to YouTube, but that does not mean you may rebroadcast the match VODs. Before setting up a loop, identify who owns each recording and its audio, graphics, and other included material, and obtain the permissions that apply. Riot’s general fan-use policy specifically rejects simply reusing esports matches or other players’ VODs with only light commentary. An encoder or cloud service cannot grant those rights.
Start with rights, not streaming software
League of Legends game recordings and broadcasts are Game Content under Riot’s Terms of Service, and use is restricted except as Riot permits. Riot’s general community policy allows some fan uses under stated conditions, but it says: “Don’t just rip off or add some light commentary to existing content (e.g., esports matches, other players’ vods).” That warning directly concerns a channel built around replaying other people’s match VODs.
The policy does not determine who owns or controls a particular recording, whether a named tournament permits rebroadcast, or what terms apply in a particular territory. Regional publisher terms may differ. Check the rights for each VOD and keep the applicable written permissions and event-specific rules with the files before you transmit anything.

Inventory every part of each recording
- Record the source and rights holder for the match footage, including whether it is an event broadcast, a player recording, or a recording you are authorized to use.
- Check rights for embedded commentary, music, graphics, and other third-party material as well as the gameplay footage.
- Keep permission records and any relevant event or regional terms available to the people operating the channel.
Separate permission from originality
A licence to use footage does not by itself make a channel original, and adding analysis does not by itself resolve copyright or licensing. YouTube’s monetization rules assess whether reused material has meaningful original commentary, substantial modification, or educational or entertainment value. A bare repeating playlist is also a poor fit for YouTube’s policy against repetitive or mass-produced content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it was renaming its repetitious-content policy to “inauthentic content” and clarifying that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization; it said its reused-content policy had not changed.

Plan a genuinely original, rights-cleared programme
If you have the necessary permissions, decide what viewers will get beyond a replay loop. For example, a programme could be built around substantial, clearly explained match analysis or educational commentary, provided the footage and all other material are cleared. Do not treat light commentary, a different playlist order, or automated playback as a substitute for permission or meaningful original contribution. Riot’s fan-use conditions and YouTube’s monetization rules are separate tests.
Set up a YouTube encoder stream
The following is YouTube’s documented encoder workflow, conditional on having the necessary rights. The exact encoder controls vary by software or hardware; the available policy and setup information does not establish a particular bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe setting for this project. Use the settings supported by your encoder and YouTube’s current Live Control Room rather than assuming a universal preset.

- Create the live stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream and select the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Enter them in your encoder’s YouTube destination fields. Treat the stream key as a private credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or include it in public screenshots.
- Prepare the authorized source. Load only the files covered by your permissions. If you are building a playlist, check its order and transitions, and make sure the programme does not accidentally include uncleared material.
- Send a preview and inspect it. Start sending from the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview before taking the stream public. Confirm that picture and sound are present and that the intended feed is playing.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Watch stream quality and outages rather than assuming that a continuous feed will stay healthy unattended. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast; it may warn you to stop, terminate a stream, or apply a copyright or Community Guidelines strike.
- Keep a local recording if you need an archive. YouTube recommends retaining a local archive as a backup. Check that recording rather than assuming the live archive will be complete.
Account for YouTube’s archive and rewind limits
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. A single uninterrupted 24-hour session therefore is not a dependable way to preserve a complete replay or provide rewind throughout.

Splitting a programme into shorter sessions may help with the stated 12-hour limits, but YouTube does not promise that any particular segmented schedule will guarantee complete archives or DVR behavior.

Choose how to keep the feed running
YouTube supports encoder-based gameplay streams and lists Gyre as a cloud-based service for continuous prerecorded-video streaming. Those are delivery approaches, not rights clearances. The available information does not establish comparable costs, reliability, or commercial terms for self-hosted and cloud services.
- Self-hosted encoder: You operate the encoder and source files yourself, so monitor the feed and retain a local recording if needed.
- Cloud playout: A hosted service can send uploaded prerecorded video without relying on a home computer staying on. Check its current capabilities and terms, and still resolve all footage and audio rights yourself.
Troubleshoot common failures
- The preview is blank or has no sound: Check that the encoder is sending to the intended YouTube stream URL and key, and inspect the encoder’s source and audio selections. Confirm the result in Live Control Room before going public.
- YouTube warns about third-party content or stops the stream: Treat the warning as a rights issue, not an encoder fault. Stop the affected material and review the permissions for the footage, music, commentary, and other included content. YouTube may terminate streams after a match or a copyright or Community Guidelines strike.
- A long broadcast has no complete YouTube archive or rewind: This can occur beyond YouTube’s stated 12-hour thresholds. Use a local recording as backup and do not rely on a 24-hour session for a complete platform archive.
- The stream drops or playback stalls: Check the encoder and source playback, then restore the feed through the configured encoder workflow and verify it in Live Control Room. Monitor after recovery; a resumed feed does not establish that earlier footage was archived.
Assess monetization separately
Riot’s policy allows passive ad revenue for some qualifying individual community projects, subject to its conditions; it also describes limited exceptions for certain commercial uses. Those provisions do not override Riot’s objection to simply reusing esports matches or other players’ VODs with light commentary. YouTube separately applies its reused-content and inauthentic-content rules. Rights, originality, and eligibility are distinct questions, so do not promise that a licensed or technically continuous stream will qualify for monetization or generate revenue.
