To run your own educational animations as a 24/7 YouTube livestream, send them through YouTube Studio’s encoder workflow: enable live streaming, create or schedule a stream, enter its stream URL and private stream key in an encoder, check the preview, then start sending the feed. For a dependable setup, plan how to monitor and recover the broadcast—and split it into shorter segments if you need YouTube to save replays. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all.
Before you start: confirm channel eligibility and audience settings
Enable live streaming in advance
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. YouTube says the person livestreaming must be at least 16; its current guidance also describes safeguards for younger participants. Check YouTube’s encoder setup requirements for your account and region.
Set the audience accurately
If the animations are directed to children, designate them as made for kids. YouTube identifies child-oriented characters, activities, songs, games, and stories as factors in that decision. The setting depends on the actual content and intended audience, not simply on whether children might watch. YouTube warns that an incorrect audience designation can have consequences and says its guidance is not legal advice. Choose an encoder and set up the stream
You can use encoder software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. YouTube supports both approaches; its general guidance does not establish that a particular device or software configuration is reliable for unattended 24/7 operation. Compare options based on sustained-operation documentation, recovery and monitoring features, codec and resolution support, and whether they can save a local recording. Hardware is optional, not a requirement.

- Open YouTube Studio: select Create → Go Live, then create a stream or schedule one in Live Control Room.
- Copy the connection details: copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s server and stream-key fields. Treat the key like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Configure the video and audio: use RTMPS where supported, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends not exceeding four seconds. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video support for RTMP/RTMPS, with AAC or MP3 audio. Choose resolution and bitrate that your upload connection can sustain steadily; YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance lists recommendations by format and resolution.
- Start with a test: send the feed, check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room, and verify the audio, picture, and watch page before making the broadcast public. For a scheduled event, check the preview and then go live from Live Control Room.
YouTube says a watch page is created once the encoder starts sending content. Keep the stream key private, and do not assume that a scheduled event is broadcasting until you have checked the preview and status.
Design the 24/7 schedule around YouTube’s archive limit
A continuous viewer experience and a saved replay are separate goals. YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable after 12 hours. If replays matter, do not depend on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast.

YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. Test how one segment ends and the next begins before relying on the schedule, and confirm that local recordings are growing. YouTube’s archive guidance explains the 12-hour limitation.
Test the setup and plan for monitoring
Run a private or unlisted test using the same sort of movement and audio as the animations you plan to broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up encoders at least two hours ahead and starting them at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. Use the test to check that the preview, audio, watch page, and local recording behave as expected.

- Watch stream health in Live Control Room rather than assuming that an encoder showing “live” means viewers are receiving a healthy feed.
- Confirm local recordings continue to grow if you are relying on them as archive copies.
- If your design includes a backup encoder, deliberately test failover before depending on it.
- Have an operator or a tested automation path to respond to a stalled feed, encoder failure, or lost connection. The availability of a particular encoder feature does not prove that a whole setup will run unattended.

Made-for-kids content has fewer engagement and monetization features. YouTube disables live chat, comments, notifications, personalized ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, memberships, merchandise and ticketing, cards and end screens, and some playback and saving features. YouTube does not serve personalized ads on kids content, though contextual ads may appear. Ads are not guaranteed in every live slot, and monetization is still subject to YouTube Partner Program eligibility and applicable policies. In July 2025, TeamYouTube reiterated that monetized content must be original and authentic, and that mass-produced or repetitive content falls under YouTube’s inauthentic-content clarification. A looped broadcast should consist of your own substantive animation and comply with the operative monetization rules; a loop alone does not establish eligibility. Clear rights for the live feed and any saved replay
YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must have the rights needed to use the live content worldwide on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights, and must comply with applicable laws and guidelines. Check that permissions cover both the live broadcast and any saved archive in the territories where you intend to make them available. Review rights for the animation, music, voice performances, fonts, and other incorporated assets. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
- Live streaming is not available: verify the channel is eligible and verified, check for a restriction in the previous 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- The encoder connects but the preview is blank or unhealthy: check the stream URL and key, encoder output settings, and connection stability; verify the feed in Live Control Room before going public.
- The stream ends or stalls overnight: check the encoder, computer or hardware, and upload connection, then use your monitoring or tested recovery process. Do not assume that a restart or failover will happen unless you have tested it.
- YouTube did not save the full broadcast: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use shorter broadcasts and retain local recordings if the archive is important.
- Viewers cannot chat or see personalized ads: these are among the features restricted on made-for-kids content; contextual ads may appear, but live ads are not guaranteed.
