You can loop prerecorded gameplay on YouTube Live with OBS on an existing PC, but a low-cost computer and home connection are not guaranteed to stay reliable around the clock. First confirm that your channel can livestream, use gameplay and audio you have permission to broadcast, test an upload bitrate your connection can sustain, and plan for power or internet interruptions. For a complete YouTube archive, also account for YouTube’s warning that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
What you need to know before starting
OBS can send gameplay to YouTube as an encoder stream and can loop a local video file or playlist. You can try this with a PC you already own; there is no universal minimum PC specification established for this workflow. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard considers your hardware and network, but a real test is still needed. YouTube describes encoders as a way to stream gameplay and overlays, not as a requirement to buy additional streaming hardware. - Prerequisites: a channel eligible to livestream, OBS, a gameplay recording you are entitled to broadcast, and a stable internet connection.
- India-specific planning: validate upload stability and power continuity where the PC will run. This setup has no universal India-specific encoder setting or home-connection guarantee.
- Choose your goal: a continuous live channel and a complete YouTube replay are separate goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Check channel access and gameplay rights
Confirm livestream eligibility early
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16. First-time activation can take time, so verify access in YouTube Studio well before you plan to go live. Use gameplay and included audio only when you have the necessary rights or permission. A credit line, disclaimer, or the fact that footage is gameplay does not by itself establish permission. Publisher rules vary, and no permission terms for a particular game are established here; check the publisher’s current streaming policy and consider music separately.

Permission to broadcast and eligibility to earn money are different questions. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content” to clarify its treatment of repetitive or mass-produced content; YouTube said this did not change its reused-content policy. A looped stream does not guarantee YPP eligibility or revenue. Review YouTube channel monetization policies and the applicable live-stream rules before relying on monetization.
Set up a looping gameplay stream in OBS
- Run OBS’s setup wizard. Open OBS and select Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard. Follow its prompts for streaming, then test the result instead of assuming the PC can handle continuous operation. The wizard estimates settings for your hardware and network; it does not guarantee 24/7 uptime. OBS Project: Quick Start Guide
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio > Create > Go live, then create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. Choose the Gaming type if appropriate and set the title, description, privacy, and other event details. YouTube’s setup instructions are at Get started with live streaming.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if it is offered, or choose a custom service and enter the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. Reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed. The YouTube encoder workflow is described in YouTube Help.
- Add the prerecorded video. In the OBS scene’s Sources box, select + > Media Source, choose the local gameplay file, and enable Loop. Configure the source’s audio as needed, then confirm that sound reaches the OBS audio mixer without clipping or being unintentionally muted. OBS documents this source at Media Sources.
- For multiple videos, build a playlist. Select + > VLC Video Source, add the files, and enable Loop Playlist; shuffle is optional. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source to appear. See OBS Project: VLC Video Source.
- Set output settings around connection stability. In OBS, open Settings > Output and use YouTube’s H.264 recommendations as starting points. Set rate control to CBR and keyframe interval to 2 seconds (YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four). Use AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Choose a target your measured upload can sustain with headroom, rather than matching a number from the table blindly. YouTube advises testing upload bitrate and selecting quality for reliability on your internet connection. A speed test is only a snapshot; stability over time matters for a stream that must run continuously. See YouTube’s encoder settings guide.
- Test before making it public. Set the event to unlisted or private, start streaming from OBS, and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check picture, motion, audio, and stream health; then start the event in Live Control Room when ready. OBS recommends a short test before streaming. Choose a bitrate and connection that can hold up
The bitrate is the amount of video data OBS sends each second. A higher target can preserve more detail, but only if the upload connection can deliver it consistently. The values above are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations for those resolutions and frame rates; they are not a recommended broadband plan or a promise about Indian ISP performance. Test at the location and time you intend to stream, and favor a lower stable setting over a higher one that repeatedly drops frames.

- Connect the PC to the router by Ethernet if practical, and avoid saturating the same upload connection with backups or other large transfers.
- Observe OBS’s dropped-frame and connection indicators during a test. If frames drop because of network congestion or instability, lower bitrate and test again.
- Keep resolution and frame rate appropriate to the footage. More output detail is not useful if the PC or connection cannot sustain it.
- No single upload speed, PC specification, or power backup can be prescribed for every home setup from the available guidance. Verify your own hardware, ISP behavior, and local power conditions.
Plan around YouTube archives and interruptions
Do not rely on one stream longer than 12 hours for a full replay
YouTube states: “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, schedule shorter broadcasts and end and restart before the 12-hour threshold, allowing time to confirm each event is running. An uninterrupted 24-hour presentation and a guaranteed full-length archive are not the same outcome. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.
Keep a local recording if you need another copy
YouTube recommends making a local archive. In OBS, enable recording in Settings > Output and confirm the recording path and available disk space before leaving the stream unattended. File size depends on bitrate, recording format, and how long you retain recordings, so estimate storage for your own settings. An external SSD for local stream recordings is optional backup storage, not a requirement for going live; size it only after calculating the expected file size and retention period. Have a recovery plan
A home PC workflow depends on the PC staying powered on, OBS continuing to run, and the ISP connection remaining available. Arrange a way to notice interruptions and restart OBS and the broadcast after a power, computer, or network failure. Neither a consumer connection nor a low-cost PC comes with a guaranteed 24/7 uptime in this workflow.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?

What upload speed do I need for a 24/7 stream?
