You can use FFmpeg to repeat a prepared set of Tamil devotional recordings on YouTube Live, but a single live event should not be treated as an endless broadcast. YouTube automatically archives streams that run for under 12 hours, so plan for managed sessions, monitoring and restarts. Before going live, enable streaming, confirm rights for the recordings and compositions, then connect FFmpeg to the current ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
What “24/7” means for a YouTube music channel
A 24/7 channel is a channel whose devotional programming is available around the clock. That does not mean one individual live event can run forever. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The practical plan is to keep the channel available through managed live sessions, with a person or supervised process ready to end and restart broadcasts and handle their archives. The available guidance does not establish that a single live event can continue indefinitely.

Check channel eligibility before preparing the stream
Enable live streaming early
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so activate it and confirm eligibility well before your intended launch. Check the channel’s current status rather than assuming an older successful stream means it is eligible today.
Know the stream limits if you operate several feeds
YouTube’s getting-started guidance reports a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. A single devotional feed is unlikely to need multiple concurrent streams, but these limits matter if you plan separate live feeds from the same channel or key.

Clear music and visual rights before going live
“Devotional,” “traditional” and “Tamil” do not by themselves make a recording free to use. A song can involve separate rights in the sound recording and the underlying composition, as well as rights associated with an arrangement or performance. The rights status of any particular Tamil devotional track depends on that track and the relevant territories; it cannot be inferred from its genre or age.
Confirm the permission covers the whole use
- Get permission for each recording and composition used in the stream.
- Confirm that the permission covers YouTube live streaming and, if you keep the replay, archiving.
- Check that the visuals, artwork and any other material shown are also cleared for this use.
- If a label, distributor or other rights owner administers the music through Content ID, ask them to add your channel to their allowlist before launch.
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. If YouTube detects third-party material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt or terminate the stream, or apply a strike, depending on the circumstances. An archived live stream may also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends.

Prepare the recordings and FFmpeg workflow
Make a test playlist from cleared files
Choose the recordings and visuals you have permission to use, then test them in the order you intend to broadcast. Rehearse with the exact files: a change of file can expose timestamp problems at a loop boundary, a missing audio or video stream, or limits on the computer or server running FFmpeg. The FFmpeg loop option does not establish that every set of media files will loop cleanly.

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -i "your-prepared-source" [encoding and output options]This is a schematic, not a ready-to-run command: the source path, output options and ingest details depend on your media and setup. The available documentation does not establish one complete command, encoding profile, bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, server size or network capacity that is correct for every channel. Do not treat the example fragment as a tested configuration. Select encoder settings for your source and current YouTube Live Control Room guidance, then validate them in a private rehearsal before relying on the feed.
Test transitions, duration and resource use
- Run through the entire prepared sequence, including the point where it loops back to the beginning.
- Check that audio and video remain present at file boundaries and that the source behaves as expected over an extended rehearsal.
- Watch the FFmpeg process and the machine’s resource use during the test; the sources do not establish a universal host specification.
- Keep a known-good source and a recovery procedure available in case a file or process fails.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect FFmpeg
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream you intend to use.
- Open the stream’s Live Control Room and retrieve the current stream URL and stream key. Use the values displayed for that event rather than assuming an old URL or key is still correct.
- Enter the ingest URL and key in your FFmpeg output configuration. Protect the key in a secret store or protected configuration; do not place it in public scripts, screenshots or logs.
- Start FFmpeg and check the Live Control Room preview and stream status. Confirm that YouTube is receiving the expected picture and sound before treating the broadcast as live.
- Keep the Live Control Room and encoder visible to whoever is supervising the session so warnings or a stopped process can be acted on.
Anyone who obtains the stream key may be able to send video to that live event. If the key is exposed, replace or reset it through YouTube’s stream settings before the next broadcast and update the protected FFmpeg configuration.

Plan sessions, recovery and archives
Do not depend on one process or one session
FFmpeg’s documentation includes an RTMP FIFO muxer example that processes at real-time rate and attempts to recover from temporary network failures, including retry behavior every second. That is a documented recovery building block, not a guarantee against a failed host, prolonged network outage, encoder problem, YouTube interruption or rights issue. It also does not remove the need to supervise the process and monitor the Live Control Room.

Use process supervision and alerting appropriate to your setup, and rehearse what happens when the encoder exits or the connection drops. Decide who will restart the process, check YouTube’s status, and begin the next session. Arrange session boundaries and archive handling around YouTube’s automatic archiving of streams under 12 hours; do not assume the same event can simply continue forever.

Decide how replays will be handled
Choose in advance whether to keep, review or remove each archive. A replay can receive a Content ID claim after the live broadcast, so archive handling is part of rights planning rather than an afterthought. Check the Live Control Room for warnings and review the channel’s status after each session.
Troubleshoot common interruptions

What to budget for a self-hosted FFmpeg stream
FFmpeg provides the looping and output tools, but a self-hosted setup still depends on a machine or server, storage for the source library, a network connection, and someone or something to supervise recovery and session changes. Actual capacity and cost depend on the media, encoding choices, host and connection; the available guidance does not establish a universal bitrate, server size or monthly cost. Include archive review and rights administration in the operating plan as well as encoder costs.
