To keep real estate tours available on YouTube around the clock, choose between a live camera production and a rotation of prerecorded tours, then build the right workflow around it. A live camera stream needs a camera, encoder, reliable upload connection, monitoring and a recording plan. A prerecorded rotation can run through cloud playout, but someone still needs to keep listings, rights and playback current. In either case, YouTube does not guarantee a complete archive of a single 24/7 broadcast, and you are responsible for having the rights to everything shown or heard.
Choose live camera or prerecorded tours first
These are different production models, not interchangeable settings. Decide which one fits your listings, staffing and update process before selecting equipment or automation.

For either model, decide how viewers will identify the property currently on screen and how quickly a tour will be removed when a listing changes or permission is withdrawn. A continuous feed is not a substitute for maintaining accurate listing information.
Check that the YouTube channel can go live
YouTube’s getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified, have no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the livestreamer must be at least 16. YouTube also states a channel can have up to 10 active streams and a stream key up to three active streams. These are platform limits, so check the channel’s current status and Studio interface before scheduling a production, especially if you plan to broadcast multiple listings at once.

First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guide. Activate and test well before the planned start rather than waiting until tour day.
Set up a live camera tour with an encoder
YouTube describes encoders as the route for productions using external audio or video hardware and other advanced production elements. For a higher-production event, it recommends a professional-grade hardware encoder. The exact encoder, camera count and configuration depend on the production; the available YouTube guidance does not establish one configuration for every real estate tour.
- Prepare the production. Connect the camera and audio equipment to the encoder and set a stable output profile that your camera, encoder and connection can sustain. Select resolution, frame rate, video and audio encoding settings using the current recommendations shown in YouTube’s encoder guidance and the encoder manufacturer. Do not choose a higher output setting than the weakest part of the system can reliably deliver.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s corresponding fields.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the stream. Do not show it on screen or share it in production notes. If it is compromised, use YouTube’s reset process and update the encoder with the replacement key.
- Check the incoming preview. Start the encoder’s feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm the picture is framed correctly, the audio is audible and clean, and the intended stream is selected.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Start the stream from the encoder and follow the Live Control Room status. YouTube’s tips recommend monitoring audio and video quality continuously; assign a person or monitoring process to respond to a frozen image, missing sound or encoder disconnect.
Do not assume a specific bitrate, resolution or keyframe interval is right for every camera and network. Use the current YouTube encoder recommendations for the output format you choose, and verify that the encoder’s settings match. YouTube’s streaming tips say total outgoing bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommend leaving 20% bandwidth room. Treat that as planning guidance, not a guarantee: use a reliable connection, test the actual production path and leave headroom rather than sizing the connection exactly to the encoder’s bitrate.

Build continuity, monitoring and recovery into the operation
An encoder alone does not make a stream dependable. A 24/7 operation needs someone or something to notice when the picture freezes, audio disappears, the encoder disconnects or the local recording stops growing, plus a documented recovery procedure.

- Test the camera, encoder, audio path and internet connection together before the scheduled broadcast.
- Check outbound upload capacity, not just download speed, and leave the bandwidth headroom YouTube recommends.
- Use a reliable connection and stable power. A wired connection may suit a fixed setup, but YouTube does not require Ethernet.
- Keep an eye on the Live Control Room preview and the encoder’s connection status.
- If the design includes a backup encoder, test its failover before relying on it.
- Decide who can restart the encoder, replace a compromised stream key, stop an incorrect tour or switch to a backup feed.
For prerecorded playlists, add a separate operating check: confirm the active playlist, tour labels and listing details are current, and verify that the playout system is still advancing through the intended videos.
Plan for recordings separately from the live feed
Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only record of a 24/7 stream. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That means a single continuous day-long broadcast may not produce a complete YouTube archive.
If a usable recording matters, keep a local archive and check that the file is being written and is intact. YouTube recommends a local archive backup and checking the archive’s integrity and growing file size. Storage capacity depends on the encoder’s recording format and workflow; choose it based on the expected recording size rather than assuming YouTube will retain a full copy. Another possible production design is a deliberate shorter-session workflow, but YouTube’s guidance does not specify how to split, schedule or join sessions for a particular continuous-stream setup. Test that workflow before relying on it.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to obtain necessary rights for live content, including music rights, and to follow applicable laws and regulations. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can interrupt the stream, replace it with a placeholder or terminate it. Even if you have licensed third-party content, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

For each property and recording, establish a practical rights checklist:
- Get permission to film and broadcast the property.
- Resolve releases or permissions for identifiable occupants, visitors and staff as applicable.
- Clear music, artwork and other third-party material that is visible or audible.
- Set a process to stop or remove a tour if permission changes, a listing ends or rights are disputed.
These platform rules do not determine the property-owner permission, privacy, brokerage, real-estate advertising or broadcast-law requirements for every location. Those vary by jurisdiction and situation; have the responsible real-estate or legal professional resolve them before broadcast.

Before putting property tours into a loop, apply the same update discipline as with any prerecorded rotation: remove or replace footage when listing status, price or permission changes, and make clear to viewers which property is being shown. Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
