You can run Rajasthani folk music continuously on YouTube from a laptop by verifying your channel, connecting encoder software such as OBS to YouTube Live Control Room, and keeping the laptop and internet connection running. Before going live, confirm you have rights to every recording and performance. YouTube may not capture a stream that runs longer than 12 hours, so plan separate stream sessions and make local recordings if you need an archive.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days.
- A laptop capable of running an encoder continuously, with reliable power and a stable internet connection.
- Encoder software. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software available at no charge.
- The necessary rights for every recording and performance you plan to broadcast.
If you are enabling live streaming for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and activation in YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide before scheduling a launch.
Set up the laptop stream
1. Install an encoder
Install OBS or another encoder supported by YouTube. The encoder sends the laptop’s audio and video to YouTube; it is not enough to create a stream in YouTube Studio alone. YouTube’s encoder guide explains how to connect an encoder to a live stream.
2. Create a stream and connect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select one you have already set up.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube, then enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to send content to your stream.
Use RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends the secure ingest protocol. Follow the encoder and Live Control Room prompts to preview the incoming signal before starting the public broadcast.

3. Choose sustainable video settings
Set the output resolution and bitrate in the encoder to a level your laptop and connection can sustain for long sessions. As one concrete reference, YouTube’s current settings table recommends an H.264 bitrate of 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. This is a platform configuration recommendation, not a promise of a particular picture quality; the result also depends on the source and connection. Check the latest YouTube encoder settings and bitrate table before choosing other resolutions or codecs.
4. Check bandwidth and audio before launch
YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate. Shared networks, other devices, or changing connection conditions can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder. Test the actual connection you intend to use and review YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Test with audio and video similar to the planned broadcast, rather than relying only on a speed-test result.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and stream-health warnings.
- Listen for clipping, silence, abrupt volume changes, or gaps between tracks.
- Keep monitoring stream health after going live; a good preview does not guarantee the connection will remain stable all day.
Plan for a 24/7 schedule and keep an archive
A laptop-based broadcast depends on the laptop staying powered, the encoder continuing to run, and the internet connection remaining available. Set the laptop to stay awake while plugged in, prevent sleep or automatic shutdown from ending the encoder, and use a reliable network. If the laptop or connection stops, the live broadcast can be interrupted.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. - If replay preservation matters, record the output locally and confirm that the recording is being saved correctly.
- Plan stream boundaries rather than assuming an uninterrupted 24/7 session will become one replay. Ending and restarting sessions creates breaks in the live schedule.
- Check that the laptop has enough storage for local recordings and that the recording drive remains available during long sessions.
Clear the music rights before broadcasting
Traditional genre or cultural status does not by itself clear a recording for a YouTube live stream. Rights may apply separately to a particular performance, arrangement, recording, master, composition, or other contribution. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other rights participants.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use may lead to interruption or termination. If you have a license for third-party music, verify whether the rightsholder must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid a live interruption. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and confirm permissions and any allowlisting process with the relevant rightsholder before you rely on them.

Common problems and fixes
You cannot start a live stream
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for access to become available.
YouTube does not receive the encoder signal
Recheck that the stream URL and key in the encoder match the selected stream in Live Control Room. Confirm the encoder is actually sending, and keep the key private; if you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.

The stream buffers or loses connection
Compare the encoder bitrate with the available upload capacity and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Pause other uploads and bandwidth-heavy activity on the shared network, test again, and monitor Live Control Room stream health. A wired connection may help if the laptop and network support it, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
The picture or audio is unstable
Lower the encoder’s resolution or bitrate to a level the laptop and connection can sustain, then test with representative content. Check the preview and listen for audio problems before starting the public stream.
The live broadcast ends or the replay is missing
Check whether the laptop slept, shut down, lost power, or lost its network connection. For the replay, remember that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured; use a local recording and plan session boundaries if an archive is important.

Do not assume that a traditional song, a purchased recording, or a general license automatically clears every relevant right. Confirm rights for the exact recording and performance, and ask the rightsholder about Content ID allowlisting if applicable.
