Yes—you can run a 24/7 rain-sounds YouTube livestream from a home PC using an encoder such as OBS and YouTube Live. The practical setup is to use rain audio and visuals you created or have documented rights to use, test the stream before making it public, and keep an eye on the PC, connection and local recording. Continuous streaming does not guarantee that YouTube will archive the entire broadcast or approve the channel for monetization.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch: YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements.
- A PC capable of running your chosen encoder and playing or assembling the rain audio and visuals. YouTube does not specify a minimum PC configuration for this low-motion use case; test the exact setup you intend to leave running.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the encoder’s outgoing bitrate, plus headroom for normal fluctuations and other household use.
- Rain audio and visuals you made, or clear documentation of your rights to use them. Keep original recordings, project files, licenses and other relevant records.
There is no universal upload-speed figure that fits every resolution and bitrate. The encoder settings you choose determine the stream’s data rate, while your ISP, router and other devices affect the capacity available at home.
Prepare rain content that is distinctive and rights-safe
Use original work or document your rights
Use field recordings, music, images and video that you created, or obtain the necessary rights for each element. Save source recordings, project files and licenses so you can substantiate how the broadcast was made. Permission to use someone else’s recording addresses copyright permission; it does not automatically make a channel eligible for monetization.

Make the channel meaningfully original
YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to livestreams and says monetized content should be original and authentic. Generic, repetitive or mass-produced material may not qualify. Reviewers can consider the channel’s theme, most-viewed and newest videos, watch-time share, metadata and About section. A licensed loop alone is not proof that a channel meets the reused-content rules. See YouTube channel monetization policies and YouTube’s reused-content guidance.

Build visible creative authorship into the actual listening and viewing experience: for example, use your own rain recordings, purposeful mixes, distinct soundscapes or visual scenes with meaningful variation. Describe your production clearly in the video and channel information. Do not rely on superficial changes to disguise someone else’s work.
Set up and test the livestream
- Enable live streaming. Verify your channel and turn on live streaming in YouTube Studio. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available. Check that the channel has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days.
- Create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in screen captures or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose encoder settings you can sustain. Set the resolution, frame rate and bitrate in the encoder, then confirm its stream-health guidance in YouTube Studio. Use a quality and bitrate your PC and connection can maintain continuously. YouTube transcodes incoming streams for viewers, but that does not remove the need for a stable upload from your home connection. Consult YouTube’s encoder streaming guide for current settings and recommendations.
- Check your connection capacity. YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth room above the stream’s bitrate. Measure upload capacity while other household devices are using the network, if possible; a connection shared with downloads, video calls or other uploads may have less capacity available than a speed test suggests. An Ethernet connection can reduce Wi-Fi variability, but it cannot fix an unreliable ISP connection or a power outage. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Preview the exact broadcast. Start the encoder in a private or unlisted test stream, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Listen for breaks, clipping, unwanted silence or audio that is too loud; check that the intended visual is present and behaving as expected. YouTube recommends testing before the actual broadcast.
- Go public and monitor it. Once the test is sound, set the stream’s visibility and start the public broadcast. Check periodically that the stream is still healthy and that the PC and network remain online. YouTube also advises checking that a local archive is being written by confirming its file size is growing.
Keep the PC and connection running
A home-PC stream depends on the computer, encoder, router, internet service and household power continuing to work. Prevent the PC from sleeping or shutting down during the broadcast, keep the encoder open, and avoid planned restarts or updates that would interrupt it. Monitor the broadcast rather than assuming it will recover from every failure; a local encoder cannot transmit while the PC or connection is down.

A UPS for the PC and router may help with brief power interruptions, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. Choose one only after measuring the actual load and deciding how much backup runtime you need. YouTube’s guidance supports the need for reliable connectivity and upload headroom; it does not prescribe a particular UPS model or capacity.
Plan for replays and archives
Do not treat one continuous broadcast as your only copy of important material. YouTube may automatically archive a livestream that is under 12 hours, but warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay, keep your source files and make local recordings where your PC has enough storage; check during the broadcast that the local file is actually growing. See YouTube’s livestream archiving guidance.

Estimate the cost of a home-PC setup
Your electricity cost depends on the PC and router’s measured power draw, how many hours they run, and your local tariff. Your internet cost depends on your existing plan and whether continuous uploads require a different one. Since those values vary by household, measure the equipment load and check your bill rather than relying on a generic rupee estimate. Also account for storage if you keep local recordings.

YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
Check that the encoder is using the correct server URL and stream key for the stream you created in the Live Control Room. Confirm the encoder is running and connected. If the key may have been exposed or copied incorrectly, generate or copy the correct key in YouTube Studio and replace it in the encoder.
The preview buffers or stream health is poor
Check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate against available upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom; pause other uploads and downloads, test by Ethernet if practical, and lower the bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings. If the ISP connection itself is unstable, changing encoder settings may not eliminate interruptions.

The PC stops streaming after a while
Check for sleep settings, a restart, encoder errors, overheating or loss of power. Keep the PC awake while streaming and monitor the encoder and Live Control Room. A UPS may provide limited backup for a measured load, but it will not keep the stream online through an extended outage or internet failure.
The livestream is missing from the channel’s replays
Check whether the broadcast exceeded 12 hours. YouTube says longer streams may not be captured, so preserve the original content and use a growing local recording when an archive matters.
The channel is not accepted for monetization
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are different questions. Review YouTube’s reused-content and channel monetization policies, then assess whether the channel demonstrates substantial original creative contribution across its videos, presentation and metadata. Do not assume that a licensed rain loop is enough.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the channel to stay live without leaving a home PC running, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a continuous YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
Quick Recap
- Nothing has to stay on at home for the cloud stream to keep running.
- One flat price per slot covers the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- It attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required. Each account gets one free day.
