You can loop Punjabi Gurbani recordings into a YouTube live stream with FFmpeg, but a loop is only one part of a dependable 24/7 broadcast. First enable YouTube Live, confirm you have rights to each recording, prepare a source and encoder profile, then send it to YouTube from Live Control Room. For a stream that must keep running unattended, plan for monitoring and recovery: FFmpeg’s input-side HTTP reconnect options do not guarantee recovery if YouTube’s publishing connection fails.
Before you set up the stream
Check channel eligibility, rights, and the source files before configuring FFmpeg. Fixing any of these later can interrupt a broadcast or put the channel at risk.
Enable YouTube Live and check channel status
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and follow the prompts to enable or schedule a stream. If you cannot create a stream, check channel verification and restrictions before troubleshooting FFmpeg.
Protect the stream key
In Live Control Room, create or select a stream and copy its server URL and stream key into your encoder configuration. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to publish to your stream. Keep it out of public scripts, screenshots, logs, and shared documents. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

Confirm permissions for each recording
Religious or devotional subject matter does not by itself clear copyright. Gurbani lyrics, compositions, performances, and sound recordings can have different rights-holders, and the status of one recording does not establish the status of another. Obtain permission or confirm that a license covers the intended YouTube live use before broadcasting.
YouTube for Artists advises: “If you’re planning on using copyright-protected music during your live stream, we recommend coordinating with your label or distributor to avoid any issues, such as copyright strikes.” Keep a record of permissions and license terms for the actual recordings in your playlist.

Choose the source and output profile
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 option tells it to loop an input indefinitely. That can work for a combined video-and-audio file; separate audio and video, playlists, and HTTP sources need different input handling. Check that the audio and picture stay in sync, that the loop point is acceptable, and that the files’ codecs and timestamps are compatible with the output you choose.
Use a supported ingest profile
YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its recommended audio profile is stereo at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. Set constant bitrate (CBR) and a keyframe interval of two seconds; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. At 30 fps, a two-second interval corresponds to 60 frames.

| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended ingest video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingest bitrates for the listed resolutions and frame rates, not viewer playback bitrates. YouTube has separate recommendations for H.265 and AV1, so use the table for the codec you actually select. Choose a profile your encoder and network can sustain continuously; a music-focused stream does not need a higher video resolution to improve its audio.
Choose how FFmpeg handles the media
Use a short rehearsal to decide whether to encode or stream-copy. Stream-copying avoids re-encoding but is appropriate only if the source’s codecs, timestamps, resolution, frame rate, and audio fit the intended YouTube ingest profile. Encoding gives you control over those output settings but adds processing load. The right FFmpeg arguments depend on whether you have a single combined file, separate tracks, a playlist, or an HTTP source, as well as your FFmpeg build and output profile; there is no single safe publish command for all of those cases.

Use -stream_loop -1 on a file input when the intended behavior is to repeat that input. FFmpeg documents -re as reading at the file’s native frame rate. Do not apply low-rate reading options indiscriminately to capture devices or live streams, where they can contribute to packet loss.

Connect FFmpeg to YouTube and rehearse
- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go live. In Live Control Room, create or select the broadcast and its encoder stream. Copy the ingest server URL and private stream key.
- Configure FFmpeg for the selected source and profile. Use the server URL and key as the publishing destination, enable the input loop if appropriate, and configure the codec, resolution, frame rate, CBR, keyframe interval, and audio settings. Prefer RTMPS, which YouTube recommends for encrypted transport.
- Start FFmpeg before making the broadcast public. Watch for FFmpeg errors, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators. Confirm that both the video and devotional audio are present and that the output is stable.
- Run an unlisted rehearsal with representative material. Include the kind of movement and audio level expected in the actual broadcast. Listen for gaps, clipping, or sudden level changes; inspect picture quality, sync, and the loop transition.
- Make the stream public only after the checks pass. Continue monitoring the encoder process and YouTube stream health during the broadcast.
Make a 24/7 broadcast recoverable
Looping a file indefinitely does not make the entire service resilient. FFmpeg’s documented reconnect, reconnect_streamed, reconnect_on_network_error, and reconnect_at_eof options concern HTTP protocol behavior on the input side. They are not a general repair switch for a failed RTMP or RTMPS publishing connection to YouTube.

For a long-running installation, decide in advance how a stopped process or lost connection will be detected and restarted. Use a process supervisor or another tested restart procedure, retain useful logs, and arrange for someone to act on alerts. Test recovery by rehearsing the actual input and publishing path; do not assume that an option documented for HTTP input will restore YouTube output. YouTube and FFmpeg documentation do not guarantee a particular uptime for your deployment.
Plan the host and connection around the chosen profile
A dedicated computer or mini PC is an optional host for FFmpeg. The platform guidance does not specify minimum CPU, memory, storage, or thermal requirements, so select hardware only after settling on the source, codec, resolution, and frame rate. Rehearse under the expected load and ensure the host, network connection, and power arrangement suit a continuous encoder process. A higher-resolution profile may require more encoding capacity and upload bandwidth; validate the actual setup rather than assuming it will hold because a short test worked.
Decide what you need from the archive
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not promise one complete automatic archive of a 24-hour broadcast, nor does it prescribe how to operate a perpetual series. If a complete recording is important, plan an archive approach separately and verify what YouTube retains for your broadcast before relying on it.

Troubleshooting common failures
- You cannot create a live stream: Confirm the channel is verified, Live is enabled, and the channel has no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that FFmpeg is running, the selected stream key and server URL match the stream in Live Control Room, and the encoder is publishing to the intended destination. Keep the key private while checking it.
- The preview appears but stream health is poor: Verify the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec, CBR, keyframe interval, and bitrate against the profile selected in YouTube. Test the same kind of audio and movement as the planned broadcast, and confirm the connection can sustain that profile.
- The loop stops or repeats the wrong material: Confirm the intended file is the input being looped and that
-stream_loop -1is applied to that file input. A multi-file playlist or separate audio and video sources may require a different input arrangement. - Audio drops, clips, or falls out of sync: Check the source files and output audio profile, then rehearse the actual media through the complete pipeline. Inspect logs for decode, timestamp, or input-read errors rather than assuming the YouTube stream key is the cause.
- The stream ends after a connection problem: Inspect FFmpeg’s output-side error and the YouTube stream-health status. HTTP input reconnect settings do not establish automatic recovery for a failed YouTube RTMP(S) output; use the restart and alert procedure tested for your setup.
- A recording is claimed or the stream is interrupted for rights reasons: Stop using the affected recording until you have verified the permissions for that exact composition, performance, and sound recording. Contact the relevant rights-holder, label, or distributor as appropriate.
