You can use a Linux VPS to send a continuous playlist of Indian music to YouTube Live, but 1 GB of RAM does not guarantee that the stream will run reliably. The result depends on the VPS’s CPU allocation, video settings, media handling and network limits as well as its memory. Before configuring anything, make sure you have rights for every recording and composition you plan to stream; calling a playlist “Indian music” does not create a copyright exception.
Before you start: clear the music and check YouTube access
Get rights for both the recordings and compositions
YouTube’s livestream terms require the streamer to have the necessary rights for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Confirm that your permissions cover the actual recordings and compositions, territories, and worldwide YouTube livestream use. A purchased download or consumer streaming subscription does not, by itself, establish those rights.
Keep written evidence of permissions and ask the rights owner or distributor whether your channel needs to be allowlisted in Content ID. A licence may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.
Make sure your channel can go live
Check YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements and confirm that live streaming is available on your channel before building the VPS workflow. You will need the current YouTube Live ingest details and stream key from YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, commit it to a public repository, or expose it in shared scripts or logs.

Can a 1 GB RAM VPS handle a continuous stream?
The available documentation does not establish a reliable minimum VPS specification or certify a particular 1 GB plan. Liquidsoap’s FFmpeg video guidance warns that video processing uses substantially more CPU than audio. The workload also depends on resolution, frame rate, encoder preset, CPU allocation, how files are read, and the provider’s resource and network limits. Treat 1 GB as a constraint to test on the exact VPS, not as a guarantee.
A playlist station has two broad jobs: play the media in order and encode a continuous video-and-audio feed for YouTube. A simple visual may reduce encoding work compared with complex motion, but it does not prove a VPS can keep up. If the encoder cannot sustain the settings without falling behind, reduce the workload, encode elsewhere, or use a VPS with more suitable CPU resources.

Liquidsoap with FFmpeg for a playlist-based station
For a playlist that needs scheduling or fallback behavior, Liquidsoap can construct the source and use FFmpeg for a direct YouTube Live RTMP output. Start with a minimal headless Linux installation, install a current Liquidsoap/FFmpeg setup supported by the chosen distribution, and build the playlist and fallback behavior around the media you have cleared. Liquidsoap’s project site and encoding formats documentation describe the project and its encoding options.

The cited documentation does not provide a verified one-command configuration for every distribution, FFmpeg build, Liquidsoap version or 1 GB VPS. Use the documentation matching the versions actually installed rather than pasting an unverified configuration into production.

FFmpeg directly for a prepared visual loop
If you already have a prepared visual loop and music sequence, FFmpeg can encode that output for YouTube directly. This gives you encoding controls, but you must arrange playlist changes, fallback behavior, process supervision, reconnect handling and logs yourself. The same YouTube encoder recommendations apply. Do not assume that a process restarting automatically will also restore a healthy YouTube connection or resume the intended playlist state.
Configure the YouTube output
- Get the ingest details. In YouTube Studio, open the current live-stream setup and use the server address and stream key shown for the stream. Use the current ingest details rather than copying an old key or relying on a hard-coded endpoint.
- Choose a secure ingest protocol. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure version of RTMP. Configure the selected encoder for the RTMPS endpoint where supported by your chosen setup.
- Set video encoding. YouTube recommends H.264 video, progressive scan, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; it recommends not exceeding four seconds. Choose a conservative resolution and frame rate that the actual VPS can encode continuously. These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not proof that a given VPS can meet them.
- Set audio encoding. Use AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo, YouTube’s encoder guidance lists 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Check the output audio for clipping, silence and channel balance before relying on it.
- Protect the stream key. Supply the key through a private configuration or secret-handling method appropriate to your system. Restrict access to that configuration and check that application logging does not print the key.
- Test before going continuous. YouTube recommends testing with motion and audio representative of the eventual stream. Check YouTube’s stream health and compare it with VPS CPU, memory, dropped frames, outbound throughput and reconnect behavior.
Put the process under supervision and monitor it
A continuous station needs more than an encoder command that works once. Run the chosen headless process under an operating-system service supervisor so it can be restarted after a process exit or host reboot. Keep logs sufficient to diagnose failures, but ensure they do not reveal the stream key. Define what should happen if an input file is missing, the playlist ends, the network drops, or YouTube stops accepting the connection. A restart policy alone is not a complete recovery design.

Benchmark the actual output settings over a representative period on the intended VPS. Watch CPU use, memory pressure, encoder pace, dropped frames, outbound network use and whether reconnects restore the stream. Check the hosting plan’s CPU allocation (including whether it is shared), data-transfer allowance, network restrictions, storage, region and support terms. A 24/7 outbound feed consumes transfer continuously; allowances and overage billing vary by provider.
Copyright interruptions and monetization risks
A licensed track can still interrupt a live stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party copyrighted content. Its live copyright guidance explains that a match can result in a placeholder image, interruption or termination. A rights owner may need to allowlist the channel in Content ID even when you have permission. Ask the owner or distributor how to arrange this before you start. If you save the live stream as an archive, copyright claims may also arise after the broadcast.

Uptime does not ensure YouTube Partner Program eligibility
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams and identify repetitive or mass-produced material as potentially inauthentic and ineligible. The policy page says YouTube clarified and renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” on July 15, 2025. A long playlist, continuous uptime or music licence does not by itself assure channel-level monetization approval. Consider what meaningful original value the channel adds, and do not promise viewers or collaborators that a static loop will qualify.
Troubleshooting a 24/7 VPS stream
- The encoder falls behind or drops frames: Check CPU use and encoder pace at the actual resolution, frame rate and preset. Reduce the encoding workload or move to more capable CPU resources; 1 GB RAM alone does not diagnose a CPU bottleneck.
- The stream disconnects and does not return: Check the VPS network, current YouTube ingest details, process logs and YouTube stream health. Confirm that supervision restarts the encoder and that its reconnect behavior works in a deliberate test.
- YouTube shows a copyright warning or placeholder: Identify the matching track, verify that permissions cover the recording and composition, and contact the rights owner about channel allowlisting. Do not assume that restarting the encoder resolves a rights match.
- Audio is silent, distorted or out of sync: Check the selected input files and the encoded audio output; verify the stereo settings, sample rate and bitrate against the chosen encoder configuration. Test with representative music before returning to continuous operation.
- The VPS runs out of storage or transfer: Check the media library size and the hosting plan’s storage and outbound-transfer terms. Keep only the files needed for the station and monitor usage; a continuous stream runs around the clock.
