AzuraCast can automate a continuous music-radio station and let a DJ join its broadcast, but it does not by itself complete the separate job of sending that station to YouTube Live. To run a 24/7 Indian music YouTube channel, you need an AzuraCast station with playlist-assigned media, an eligible YouTube channel, a separately configured YouTube distribution and encoding path, and the rights required for the music you broadcast.
The most important step comes before configuration: confirm that you have the rights for worldwide live use of every recording and composition in your stream. YouTube can interrupt a stream that matches third-party material, even when you believe the music is licensed.
What AzuraCast does—and what it does not do
AzuraCast is free, server-based radio software that can run on a VPS, dedicated server, or another computer. Its AutoDJ uses media assigned to playlists to produce a continuous station broadcast. AzuraCast documentation describes continuous 24/7 broadcasting as a capability; that is not a guarantee that a particular server, network, or installation will remain available without interruption.

That station output is not, by itself, a documented end-to-end YouTube Live setup. The AzuraCast and YouTube documentation described here does not give a complete recipe for relaying an AzuraCast mount to YouTube, composing video, choosing encoder settings, or configuring reconnection. Treat YouTube distribution as a separate component that you must select and verify for your installation; do not assume that a listener mount URL can simply be entered as a YouTube encoder source.
Check rights and YouTube eligibility before building the broadcast
Clear the music for the use you plan to make
YouTube’s Livestream terms say: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” For a channel aimed at listeners in India or elsewhere, work out which rights apply to your catalogue, territories, live transmission, and any archive or replay before you go live. The required permissions depend on the music and rights chain; there is no single India-specific licensing answer established here.
- Keep records of permission for both the composition and the sound recording, and confirm that the permission covers the intended live use and relevant territories.
- Do not assume that buying a track, having a personal music-streaming subscription, or seeing “free” or “royalty-free” in a listing grants permission for a public, continuous YouTube broadcast.
- YouTube says its Audio Library is a copyright-safe source, but check the specific track’s terms for your planned use.
- If a rights owner licenses your music, ask whether the channel must be added to that owner’s Content ID allowlist. YouTube says a stream can still be interrupted if licensed material is matched and the channel is not allowlisted.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. When it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. Having paperwork is important, but it does not remove the need to address matching and allowlisting where applicable.

Do not plan around Creator Music for a live radio channel
YouTube’s Creator Music terms distinguish long-form videos from livestreams: its licensed and revenue-sharing tracks may be used in long-form videos, not livestreams or Shorts. The cited YouTube page describes Creator Music as available to US creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion beyond the US pending. Availability and terms can change, so check YouTube’s current rules before relying on the program; it is not a blanket clearance for a 24/7 live music channel.

Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube Help’s “Get started with live streaming” page says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. The same page lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. These are YouTube’s published operational limits, not performance targets. Check the current YouTube Help requirements for your channel before scheduling a launch.
Build the continuous station in AzuraCast
1. Choose and prepare a server
AzuraCast can be installed on a VPS, dedicated server, or another computer. A VPS can keep the station software running independently of a home PC, but you remain responsible for the server and its maintenance. A dedicated machine gives you control over the hardware and its environment, while also making you responsible for keeping that machine, its connection, and its backups available. The documentation cited here does not establish a server size, monthly cost, or uptime figure for a particular music library or audience.
2. Add media and assign it to playlists
Upload or place the rights-cleared audio in the station’s media library, then assign the tracks to playlists for AutoDJ. AzuraCast’s Media Management guidance is explicit: files present in the media directory but not assigned to a playlist will not be played automatically. Create playlists that reflect how you want the station to rotate its material rather than treating an uploaded folder as a schedule.
3. Set up AutoDJ and check station playout
Configure the station’s playlists and AutoDJ so Liquidsoap can combine that media into the station output. Confirm that the station is actually playing the intended material before adding the YouTube distribution layer. AzuraCast mount points can expose the same station broadcast in different formats and bitrates for listeners; they do not prove that YouTube accepts a particular mount URL or supply the missing video and encoder configuration.

4. Add live DJ input if the channel needs it
If a presenter will join the station, create a streamer account and connect compatible Icecast or Shoutcast broadcast software to Liquidsoap. For Mixxx, AzuraCast’s Streaming Software guide recommends Icecast mode. Test the DJ connection and the transition between live input and AutoDJ on the station output before attempting to relay it elsewhere.
If AzuraCast sits behind a reverse proxy, check whether the required broadcaster ports are reachable directly. AzuraCast warns that some proxy services prevent direct broadcaster connections, so a website or listener stream working through the proxy does not necessarily mean a DJ client can connect.

YouTube lists encoder streaming as a way to go live. A working relay design needs to receive the station audio, encode and send a YouTube-compatible live stream, provide a video picture or visual composition, and handle connection loss. Those are design requirements to verify for the specific relay software and current YouTube ingest settings—not settings established by the AzuraCast station documentation cited here.
- Choose a relay or encoder that can receive the AzuraCast station output in a supported way.
- Decide what viewers will see while the radio audio plays, such as a suitable visual presentation. AzuraCast’s API can provide now-playing and station information that may help a separately built overlay, but the API documentation is not an overlay-production or video-encoding guide.
- Configure the chosen encoder against the current ingest instructions shown for your YouTube live event. Verify audio, video, stream-key handling, and reconnect behavior with that encoder’s documentation rather than guessing at settings.
- Test the full path privately or in an otherwise controlled test before relying on it for a continuous public broadcast. Confirm that the station source, visual output, YouTube event, and recovery behavior all work together.
Because the cited documentation does not provide a complete AzuraCast-to-YouTube relay procedure, exact encoder settings or commands would depend on the relay you choose and should not be improvised from mount-point settings alone.

Troubleshoot the common failure points
