To loop a fireplace video on YouTube, play your clips in an OBS Studio VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist, and send OBS’s output to a YouTube Live encoder event. You can leave the broadcast running as a 24/7 stream, but YouTube does not guarantee an indefinite uninterrupted session—and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Clear rights to every video and audio track before going live.
Before you start: eligibility, rights, and a realistic 24/7 plan
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube’s live-streaming tips say the channel must be verified and must not have had livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. If you have never livestreamed before, activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the intended launch time. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and its encoder setup instructions.
Use material you have rights to stream
Use fireplace footage and sound you own or have cleared for the intended worldwide YouTube use. YouTube’s livestream terms require providers to have the rights needed for live content, including music licensing rights, and to comply with Community Guidelines and applicable law.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream, and continued use of matched material can interrupt or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent a disruption: YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and arrange any required allowlisting before you start.

Decide whether you need a replay
A continuous broadcast and a saved replay are separate goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a complete replay matters, schedule shorter sessions and record a local backup instead of expecting one 24-hour broadcast to be preserved or split automatically. Details are in YouTube’s archive guidance and its encoder instructions.
What you need
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- OBS Studio and VLC installed on the computer that will send the stream.
- One or more fireplace video files, arranged in the desired order, with rights cleared for YouTube.
- A reliable internet connection and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install the matching 64-bit VLC version. OBS documents this under Media Sources. YouTube also describes hardware encoders as an option, but a dedicated computer or encoder is not a stated requirement for a fireplace loop; start with suitable equipment you already have.

Set up a looping fireplace playlist in OBS
- Install OBS and VLC. Install VLC before configuring the source, and match its 64-bit version to 64-bit OBS. Restart OBS if it was open during installation.
- Create a scene. In OBS, add or select a scene for the fireplace broadcast. Give it a descriptive name so it is easy to identify if you use OBS for other productions.
- Add the VLC playlist source. In the Sources panel, choose +, select VLC Video Source, and create a new source. Add the fireplace clips in the order you want them played.
- Enable looping and set the order. In the source properties, enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle off if you want the clips to play predictably in the listed order. Check that the playlist contains the intended files and that each one plays.
- Check the picture and sound. Look at the OBS preview for framing, black frames, or unexpected overlays. Listen for audio that is too loud, silent, clipped, or unintentionally included. If the video has no sound, confirm the source and OBS audio meters behave as intended.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, go to the Live Control Room, and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Follow the prompts for the event and visibility settings.
- Copy the stream URL and key. In YouTube’s stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your event. Do not publish it, show it on screen, or include it in a recording. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Enter the connection details in OBS. Open OBS stream settings, choose YouTube as the service when available, and enter the stream key; if configuring a custom service, enter YouTube’s stream URL and key as provided in Studio. YouTube’s stream settings guidance explains managing these settings.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. In OBS, start streaming. Wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room preview to appear, then check both picture and audio before starting or confirming the public broadcast.
- Verify viewer access. Check the watch page and channel page, and confirm the stream is accessible on a mobile device. YouTube recommends checking preview, access, and audio/video quality before relying on the live stream; see its live-streaming tips.
Keep it running—and plan for interruptions
With the VLC playlist looping, OBS repeats the clips while it sends the feed to YouTube. For a DIY setup, the computer, OBS, VLC, and network connection must remain available. A crash, power loss, internet outage, encoder issue, or YouTube interruption can stop the broadcast. YouTube’s cited help pages explain setup and recovery considerations but do not guarantee an indefinite continuous runtime. Monitor the stream and be ready to reconnect or restart it if it drops.
If replay preservation matters, enable local recording in OBS and check that the recording drive has room before a long session. A local recording is a backup you control; it does not change YouTube’s archive limits. Consider ending and restarting broadcasts on a planned schedule that keeps each session below the 12-hour archive threshold.

Monetization: what a loop does and does not guarantee
Repeated fireplace footage is not automatically eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and classify repetitive or mass-produced material under its “inauthentic content” policy. The policy does not establish whether an individual fireplace channel or stream will pass review.
For eligible monetized streams, possible revenue sources include ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve an ad, so these are possibilities rather than predictable income. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Troubleshooting a fireplace loop
