To run an exam-preparation playlist on YouTube Live around the clock, send it through an encoder using YouTube’s Live Control Room—or use hosted cloud playout if you do not want a computer running at home. First confirm your channel can livestream, clear the rights to every item in the playlist, test the stream, and monitor it. If you want YouTube to save a replay, schedule separate sessions under 12 hours: a longer stream may not be captured at all.

Before you start: eligibility, content, and rights

Check that your channel can livestream

YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The person livestreaming must be at least 16. Check eligibility before preparing a long broadcast, and do not try to get around an active restriction by switching to another channel. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Document rights for every playlist item

Make an inventory of every lesson video, slide, graphic, photograph, music bed, and embedded clip. Record the rights holder, the permission or licence, whether it allows livestreaming in the intended territories, and any attribution terms. Publicly viewable content is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services and to comply with laws and regulations that apply in the stream territory: YouTube Livestream Terms and Conditions.

YouTube scans live feeds for third-party content. A stream can be interrupted even when you have a licence if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. If you use licensed material, ask the rights holder about allowlisting before going live. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Do not assume there is one India-wide permit rule

YouTube’s terms require compliance with applicable rules in the stream territory, but the cited guidance does not establish one universal Indian broadcast permit that applies to every exam-preparation playlist. Whether additional requirements apply depends on the broadcaster and the content. Check the rules relevant to your specific circumstances rather than assuming a permit is always required or never required.

Choose how to keep the playlist on air

Run an encoder on your own computer

An encoder sends your prepared playlist to YouTube using the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. Your computer, encoder, source files, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast. YouTube documents encoder-based streaming but does not specify a minimum PC configuration or endorse a particular computer model. Its encoder setup guidance explains the workflow.

Use hosted playlist playout

A hosted playout service can run uploaded videos from its infrastructure, avoiding the need to keep your own computer online. In exchange, you depend on the vendor’s service and terms. Before choosing one, check current pricing, storage, stream-key handling, support, service limits, availability in India, and what it does if YouTube or the service connection drops. Do not treat a vendor’s description as independently verified uptime.

Put the stream key under your control

Live Control Room provides the stream URL and key used by an encoder. Treat the key like a password: only enter it into the encoder or service you have chosen, do not publish it, and reset it in YouTube if you believe it has been exposed. Follow YouTube’s stream settings instructions for creating and connecting an encoder stream.

Set up and test the broadcast

  1. Prepare the playlist. Check that each video plays from beginning to end, the order is correct, and transitions do not leave unexpected silence or blank frames. Keep a copy of the source files and your rights inventory.
  2. Create or schedule the stream in Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow, then use the stream URL and key provided there to connect your encoder or hosted playout service.
  3. Start early enough to inspect the preview. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder in advance and checking the Live Control Room preview before the public broadcast. Confirm the correct picture and sound reach YouTube.
  4. Check the viewer experience. Open the watch page and test playback on a phone as well as the device used for setup. Verify that audio is intelligible, video is continuous, and viewers can access the stream.
  5. Test your recovery plan. Check what you will do if the encoder, internet connection, or hosted service stops. YouTube recommends testing backup behavior and monitoring audio and video quality during the stream. Keep a local recording if preserving the broadcast matters. See YouTube’s livestream tips.

Plan around YouTube’s archive limit

Continuous broadcasting and a saved replay are different outcomes. YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, while a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume a 24-hour stream will leave a replay of its final 12 hours. If you need a YouTube replay for each session, schedule a deliberate stop and restart with a margin below 12 hours, then check the archive in Studio. This is a practical way to work around the stated threshold, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will archive. Keep a local recording when the broadcast must be preserved. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Understand the monetization risk of repetitive loops

A livestream label or educational subject does not guarantee monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and may make repetitive or mass-produced material ineligible as “inauthentic content.” On July 15, 2025, YouTube said it renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify the existing policy; the reused-content policy did not change in that update. Original teaching, explanation, curation, or interaction may help distinguish a channel’s work, but no format guarantees a particular channel’s approval. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can be off while the cloud loops the playlist. It is #1 here because it runs always-on from the cloud, streams your upload at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and gives the first day free.

Troubleshoot common problems

The stream will not start

  • Confirm the channel is verified, meets the age requirement, and has no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days.
  • Check that the encoder is using the current stream URL and key from Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder or service.
  • Check the encoder or service connection and confirm Live Control Room is receiving a preview before expecting viewers to see the broadcast.

The stream stops unexpectedly

  • For local streaming, check whether the computer, encoder, or internet connection stopped. Restore the feed and test the backup procedure before relying on it for a long broadcast.
  • For hosted playout, check the vendor’s status, terms, and recovery behavior. Do not assume recovery is automatic unless the service specifies it.

The feed is interrupted or claimed

Review the playlist for third-party material. A live copyright match can interrupt the stream, including when material is licensed but the channel is not allowlisted. Contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting, or remove the affected material if you cannot resolve the rights issue.

The YouTube replay is missing

Check the session length first. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. For future replays, split the schedule into shorter sessions and retain a local recording as backup.

Viewers report silence, blank video, or playback trouble

Inspect the Live Control Room preview and test the watch page on a phone. Check the playlist source and encoder output, then monitor sound and picture continuously as YouTube recommends.

How do I run a 24/7 YouTube live stream?

Use an encoder to send a playlist to YouTube Live with the stream URL and key from Live Control Room, or use a hosted playout service. Keep in mind that YouTube may not archive a session longer than 12 hours.

Will YouTube save my 24/7 stream?

Not reliably as a single replay: YouTube says streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Schedule shorter sessions if YouTube replays matter, and keep a local recording for important broadcasts.
