You can run a continuous crystal singing bowl broadcast by feeding the bowl’s audio and a steady visual into OBS, connecting OBS to a YouTube encoder stream, and monitoring the feed while it is live. You need a verified channel with livestreaming enabled, a reliable computer and internet connection, and an audio setup tested with the actual bowl. Plan a local recording if you need a complete replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Before you begin: check YouTube eligibility and plan the stream
- Your channel must be verified and have no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is your first livestream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned start. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.
- Decide whether the broadcast will show a live camera view or a static visual. For a camera view, ensure it remains framed and powered for the duration; for a static visual, use a suitable OBS image or scene.
- Check that you have permission to use every sound and visual in the stream. A live performance of your own bowl playing does not automatically grant rights to background music, images, or other material you add.
- For a 24/7 schedule, account for power, internet, computer cooling, and someone who can respond to failures. A UPS for the computer and network equipment may reduce disruption from brief power interruptions, but it cannot guarantee continuity.
Set up the bowl audio and OBS scene
Connect a microphone or audio interface
Capture the bowl through an audio input that OBS can select. Depending on your equipment, the path may be a microphone connected directly to the computer or a microphone routed through a preamp or audio interface. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers external audio hardware, including microphones and preamps, but does not specify an ideal microphone, placement, interface, bowl size, or room treatment for crystal singing bowls. Choose and position equipment for your particular room and test it rather than assuming a generic setup will sound right. See YouTube’s encoder hardware guidance.
Add and check sources in OBS
- Open OBS and create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the visual source you plan to use, such as a camera or static image. Confirm that the image is correctly framed and does not expose anything you do not want shown.
- Add or select the audio input that receives the bowl. Play the bowl and watch OBS’s audio meter to confirm that the expected input is active.
- Listen to the signal through OBS monitoring or a test broadcast. Set monitoring so the audio is not routed back into the microphone or speakers as feedback. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the eventual stream; consult its encoder settings guidance.
Check for clipping, excessive room noise, hum, and unwanted silence. The suitable microphone gain and placement depend on your equipment and room, so make adjustments while listening to a representative bowl performance.

- In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Choose its title, visibility, and other broadcast settings.
- In the stream setup, locate the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details as required by the current OBS interface. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how the encoder connects.
- Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- In OBS, open Settings > Output and Settings > Video to configure the output for your chosen resolution and available connection. YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists CBR and AAC or MP3 audio, with 44.1 kHz for stereo audio; check YouTube’s current recommended encoder settings and the live stream’s health indicators for the resolution you choose.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room, then verify the image and sound there before making the broadcast public. Check the channel’s watch page and a mobile device as part of the test.
Do a private or unlisted test before the public 24/7 run. Confirm that bowl audio is present, synchronized acceptably with the picture, and free of feedback or clipping; also verify the stream health and that the watch page plays correctly.

Keep the stream running and monitor it
A long broadcast needs active operational checks. YouTube recommends monitoring stream quality and, when recording locally, checking that the archive file is growing. Keep an eye on OBS, YouTube Live Control Room health messages, audio meters, and the actual viewer-facing playback. A stream that appears active in OBS can still have a problem at the YouTube end, so check both.
- Confirm the bowl audio remains audible and at a consistent level; check for a disconnected input, muted source, or feedback.
- Watch for YouTube stream-health warnings and investigate network or encoder issues they report.
- If you are recording locally, check the recording file periodically to ensure it is being written and that the drive has free space.
- Keep the computer and network equipment powered and prevent the operating system from sleeping or restarting unexpectedly. Exact power and restart controls depend on your operating system and version; test them before relying on a long unattended session.
YouTube’s monitoring guidance describes checks, not a method that guarantees uninterrupted operation or a specific automatic restart behavior in OBS. Test your actual OBS and operating-system setup before leaving it unattended. See YouTube’s stream monitoring guidance.

Understand the 24-hour replay and DVR limits
Do not assume that one continuous 24-hour broadcast will be available afterward as a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR, which lets viewers pause and rewind a live stream, may also have limited range or be unavailable on very long streams, including streams over 12 hours. Check YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance and DVR guidance.
If a replay matters, record locally and verify the recording while the broadcast is underway. For a replay that must be published, plan a recording and upload workflow rather than relying on YouTube to create a complete archive from a single stream longer than 12 hours.

Troubleshooting common problems
