You can run a continuous Bhojpuri music livestream from a spare laptop by playing an authorized playlist through OBS Studio and sending the encoder output to YouTube Live. First secure livestream rights for every track and visual, enable YouTube live access in advance, then test the laptop under the same power, cooling and network conditions you plan to use. A spare laptop can be a practical starting point, but neither OBS compatibility nor a 24/7 label guarantees uninterrupted streaming.
Before you set up the stream, clear the music rights
Make an inventory of every recording, composition and visual you plan to use. Confirm with the relevant label, distributor or rightsholder that your permission covers the intended territories, livestream use, any archived replay and monetization where applicable. These are distinct rights questions; buying a song, subscribing to a music service or finding a track online does not by itself establish permission to livestream it.
YouTube says that all live streams are scanned for third-party content. If you have licensed music, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist, and keep written records of what the permission covers. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Enable YouTube Live before your first broadcast
- Sign in to the YouTube channel that will carry the Bhojpuri stream and verify it if you have not already done so.
- Check that the channel has no live-stream restrictions from the previous 90 days. YouTube lists verification and the absence of recent live restrictions as requirements for encoder streaming. See YouTube Help: live streaming.
- Enable live streaming well before launch. YouTube for Artists advises verifying the account at least 24 hours before the planned first live stream: YouTube for Artists.
- In YouTube Studio, open the live control room and choose the encoder workflow. Create or select the stream, then copy its stream key into OBS. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it on screen. If it is exposed, reset it in Studio and replace it in OBS.
YouTube’s current help page states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. That is unlikely to constrain one music station, but it matters if you later add more simultaneous feeds.

Prepare the spare laptop and OBS
Check compatibility, then test the actual workload
OBS Studio is free and open-source software for video recording and live streaming. Its published minimum requirements identify supported operating systems and graphics interfaces, but OBS cautions that meeting them does not guarantee that a particular computer can stream or record successfully. CPU load varies with the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Review the current OBS system requirements and use Tools → Auto Configuration Wizard in OBS as a starting point, not a promise of stable 24/7 operation.
For a simple music channel, keep the scene modest: a static or otherwise authorized image plus a music playback source. More animation, overlays or scenes can increase the encoding workload. There is no single safe resolution, bitrate or frame rate for every older laptop; choose settings the machine can sustain and verify them during a long test. The available guidance does not establish a universal upload-speed minimum or a tested laptop configuration.

Build and connect a basic scene
- Install OBS Studio from the OBS Project and run the Auto Configuration Wizard.
- Create a scene for the broadcast. Add a media source or another suitable playback source for the authorized playlist, and add a static or authorized visual if desired.
- Check OBS audio meters while music plays. Avoid clipping, confirm the intended output device, and listen to the result before going live.
- Open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key copied from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private.
- Set output and video options appropriate to the laptop and connection. Start with conservative settings if you are unsure, then test for encoding overload, dropped frames and stream health rather than assuming the hardware can handle a particular preset.
- Start a private or unlisted test where appropriate. Confirm that YouTube receives both picture and sound and that OBS and Studio report a healthy stream before making the channel public.
Test continuous playback and plan recovery
A short successful broadcast does not prove that the machine can stay live indefinitely. Before launch, run the exact playlist, scene, output settings and connection for an extended test under the conditions you expect in production. Keep the laptop plugged into reliable power, provide unobstructed cooling, prevent sleep or automatic shutdown, and use the same network path you intend to rely on.
- Watch OBS for encoding overload and dropped frames; watch YouTube Studio for stream health and incoming audio/video.
- Test what happens after a network interruption and after OBS or the laptop is restarted. Confirm you can reconnect using the same stream setup, or replace the key if you reset it.
- Arrange a human or remote check and decide who is responsible for stopping or restarting the stream. Monitor copyright notices as well as technical status.
- Make sure the playlist can repeat as intended and that the visual and audio sources continue after the laptop display is turned off, if that is part of your normal setup.
A 24/7 stream is an operating goal, not a guarantee of continuous availability. The laptop, power, cooling, home internet, software and rights enforcement can each interrupt it.

Choose between the spare laptop and a hosted stream
The laptop-and-OBS route reuses equipment you already own and gives you direct control of the encoder, but it depends on that device and your local power and internet staying available. Hosted streaming moves the encode offsite, which can make sense if you cannot leave a computer running at home; it adds a provider, service terms and recurring cost. Either way, you remain responsible for music rights, channel eligibility and monitoring.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube will not enable the stream: verify the channel and check for live-stream restrictions from the previous 90 days. For a first broadcast, enable access in advance rather than waiting until launch day.
- OBS connects, but YouTube shows no picture or sound: check the selected scene, playback source, audio meters and stream key. Confirm the Studio control room is receiving the encoder output.
- OBS reports encoding overload or dropped frames: reduce the workload, such as lowering output resolution or frame rate, simplifying the scene or choosing a less demanding encoder setting. Retest instead of assuming a laptop is suitable based on minimum requirements.
- The stream stops after a network or power interruption: restore the connection or restart the laptop and OBS, then reconnect from the encoder workflow. Test this recovery path before relying on it unattended.
- Music is interrupted or the stream receives a copyright notice: review the notice and contact the relevant rightsholder or distributor. Confirm that the permission covers the use and ask whether the channel has been added to the Content ID allowlist. Do not assume a purchased track or subscription grants livestream rights.
- The laptop gets hot, sleeps or shuts down: check airflow, power settings and automatic sleep behavior, then repeat the extended test in the intended placement. Do not leave the computer unattended until its operating conditions are understood.
