You can run a continuous bhajan stream from an Indian broadband connection if its real, sustained upload speed comfortably supports your chosen video bitrate—and you plan for outages, power cuts, YouTube’s archive limits, and music rights. Start with a modest stream setting, test it on the actual connection at the address, and do not treat an advertised plan speed as an uptime guarantee.

Choose stream settings your upload can sustain

The bitrate setting is the amount of data your encoder sends upstream each second. YouTube’s current H.264 encoder recommendations are useful starting points, not broadband plan requirements. They apply to the encoder output; viewers receive YouTube-transcoded versions of the live stream.

Output YouTube H.264 minimum YouTube H.264 recommended
720p at 30 or 60 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

These figures are YouTube encoder settings, not a promise that an ISP connection advertised at the same upstream speed will sustain that bitrate continuously. The connection also carries audio and protocol overhead, and other devices on the home network may compete for upload capacity. For a static image or gently moving devotional visual, begin with a conservative resolution and frame rate rather than choosing the highest setting by default. Lower quality with steady delivery is more useful than a sharper stream that repeatedly drops frames.

Use compatible encoder settings

YouTube recommends RTMPS ingestion, which encrypts the feed sent to its servers. Its documented video options include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; use the codec supported by your encoder and follow YouTube’s current table for that codec. For H.264, use constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. Set audio to AAC or MP3, with 128 Kbps stereo audio as YouTube’s recommendation.

Do not mix bitrate figures from different codec tables. If you use H.264, the H.264 values above are the relevant recommendations. YouTube’s current encoder guidance is at YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Test the actual broadband connection before going live

There is no universal Indian broadband speed that guarantees a successful 24/7 YouTube broadcast. National Informatics Centre Webcast Services describes 2–4 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth per stream for its own webcast workflow, but that is not a household broadband requirement or YouTube recommendation. TRAI’s regulations and tariff information can help when reviewing service and plan details, but neither establishes the sustained upstream performance at your home. Check what providers offer at your installation address, including data or fair-use terms, and test the connection you will actually use.

  1. Pick an initial output. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and codec, then set the encoder bitrate using YouTube’s current table. For a simple visual, start modestly and raise quality only if tests remain stable.
  2. Measure sustained upload at the stream location. Test while the same network is in ordinary use, including during the hours you expect to broadcast. An isolated speed test is a snapshot, not a guarantee of continuous service.
  3. Test the full setup privately. Run an unlisted test stream using the intended encoder, router, audio, and visuals. Representative movement and sound can reveal problems that a static test screen misses.
  4. Watch YouTube’s stream health. Check Live Control Room for warnings or dropped frames. If the connection cannot sustain the chosen setting, reduce bitrate or resolution and test again.
  5. Check the plan and backup path. Confirm data terms and how the provider handles outages. If you have an alternate connection, test a failover rather than assuming a phone hotspot or second line will take over automatically.

A wired Ethernet connection can reduce one source of local wireless instability. It cannot prevent ISP outages. A suitable UPS for the modem/router and encoder can help ride through some power interruptions, but neither equipment choice guarantees uptime. TRAI reference information is available at TRAI; provider availability and performance still need address-specific verification.

Enable YouTube live streaming and connect an encoder

You need a YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and verified, and it must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so complete it well before the intended launch.

  1. Enable and verify the channel. In YouTube Studio, follow the live-streaming setup and verification prompts. Allow time for first-time access to become available.
  2. Create or schedule a stream. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. Choose the intended visibility and stream details.
  3. Copy the ingest details into the encoder. Use the server URL and stream key shown by YouTube. Treat the key like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Never show it on-screen, in a public post, or in a recording.
  4. Confirm preview and health before starting. Send a test feed, check that YouTube receives it correctly, and verify audio, visuals, and stream health before making the broadcast public.
  5. Test recovery and recording. Before relying on the setup, test what happens if the encoder or connection stops and returns. If you keep a local recording, confirm that the file is growing and that the storage device has room for the planned duration.

YouTube’s encoder overview and current connection guidance are at YouTube Help: Use an encoder to livestream. Software encoding is supported; a hardware encoder is optional for a simple static-image-and-audio setup, though it may suit a more involved production.

Plan for a 24/7 broadcast and a usable replay

Keeping a broadcast live around the clock and getting a complete YouTube replay are different objectives. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams over 12 hours.

If viewers need an archive

  • Plan shorter sessions and restart before a session reaches 12 hours if a YouTube replay matters. YouTube’s wording is “under 12 hours,” so leave a margin rather than aiming to end exactly at the limit.
  • Understand that ending and restarting can create a transition or brief gap. Do not promise seamless handoffs unless your setup has been tested to achieve them.
  • Make a local recording as a backup and check that the file continues to grow. Estimate required storage from your actual recording bitrate and duration; there is no single drive size that fits every stream.

YouTube’s archive and stream-management advice is at YouTube Help: Archive live streams. Its tips recommend testing encoder failover and checking local archive files.

If uninterrupted live delivery matters more than the replay

A single long session avoids planned restart transitions, but it does not remove broadband or power failure risk, and it may not produce a complete YouTube archive. Decide which outcome matters most to your viewers, then test your restart and recording procedures before relying on them.

Clear music rights before you broadcast

A devotional subject does not automatically make a recording safe to stream. You need rights for the specific composition, arrangement, performance, and sound recording, including the intended livestream and any archive. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube Terms of Service and confirm permissions for your planned use.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects copyrighted material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you to stop using that content; continuing can lead to interruption or termination. A rightsholder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist even when you have a licence. An archived stream can also receive a Content ID claim after it ends.

  • Keep written evidence that covers the exact recording or performance, arrangement, livestream use, relevant territories, and replay or monetization rights if applicable.
  • Coordinate Content ID allowlisting with the rightsholder when required.
  • Do not assume that a traditional bhajan, a purchased copy, a credit line, or a “free” label proves you may stream that particular arrangement or recording.
  • If permissions are uncertain, use an original performance with documented permissions or music licensed expressly for the intended livestream and archive.

Compare practical options for your stream

Decision What to weigh
Stream output Resolution and frame rate against YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrate and the upload headroom you measured. Stability matters more than selecting the highest quality setting.
Broadband plan Sustained upload at your address, variation during busy hours, outage support, data or fair-use terms, and whether a tested alternate connection is available. No provider or plan can be named as best without current local availability and performance evidence.
Encoder Software cost and complexity versus optional dedicated hardware; confirm codec and protocol compatibility and test recovery.
Archive approach One long live session versus planned shorter sessions, considering continuity, YouTube replay capture, DVR, local storage, and operator workload.
Music source Original recording or third-party track, with permissions for the composition, arrangement, performance, recording, territory, livestream, archive, and any needed Content ID allowlisting.
