You can keep a prerecorded ASMR cooking video streaming to YouTube from a Linux VPS by using FFmpeg to send the file to YouTube’s live ingest, then supervising the FFmpeg process so it can restart if it exits. That gives you a stream configured to run continuously—not a guarantee that YouTube, the VPS, or the network will never interrupt it. Before automating anything, make sure you own or have permission to use every sound and image, and decide whether a looped recording is the right format for your channel.
Choose what your channel will stream
Live cooking or a looped recording
A VPS workflow is useful when you want to broadcast a prerecorded video, such as an original close-up recording of chopping, stirring, frying, or pouring. It is not a way to make prerecorded footage genuinely live. If you cook and record in real time instead, you need a live camera-and-audio setup; this guide focuses on sending a media file with FFmpeg.
Original footage and cooking sounds make your contribution easier to identify than a generic loop, but an ASMR label or a live badge does not, by itself, make repetitive material original or eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel-level monetization review may consider videos as well as the channel description, titles, and descriptions. Its policy applies to live streams and addresses repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse files you have the right to broadcast
Use your own recording or material whose license covers livestreaming on YouTube. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including other live broadcasts. A match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream, a warning, an interruption, or termination. Even with a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. A license does not guarantee that a stream will avoid automated detection.

Prepare YouTube Live and keep the stream key private
- Check live access in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and follow its live setup flow. Choose the option for streaming with an encoder or third-party software. Access and setup can depend on your account or channel state, so use the status and instructions shown in Studio rather than assuming the channel is ready.
- Create or open the live stream setup. In the encoder instructions, find the server or ingest address and the stream key. YouTube’s Live Streaming API identifies RTMPS as the primary ingestion URL for RTMPS use. Use the endpoint actually shown for your stream in Studio; do not substitute an address copied from an unrelated setup.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Do not post it in a public script, repository, screenshot, or support request. If it is exposed, reset or rotate it in YouTube Studio and update the VPS configuration.
- Set the intended visibility and archive choice. Choose the stream’s visibility and whether to keep an archive in the Studio workflow. Check the resulting live preview before making a public broadcast.
Choose the VPS and media workflow
What to check for an India VPS
No particular India-based provider, plan, price, or required CPU and bandwidth is established here. Compare providers using your own output profile and acceptable interruption risk. Before paying, check:
- Whether sustained outbound video traffic is allowed and included, and what outbound data charges apply.
- Whether the server has enough CPU headroom for your chosen encoding approach, especially if you transcode rather than copy compatible streams.
- Disk space for the source recording, any temporary files, and logs.
- Data-center location and the route quality you observe to YouTube’s ingest endpoint.
- How the provider handles reboots, maintenance, recovery, and support.
- Whether you can monitor the stream and respond to interruptions at the times that matter to your channel.
Do not size bandwidth from a guessed figure. Estimate outbound traffic from the bitrate you select in YouTube’s current encoder guidance, then confirm the actual usage and charges with your provider. If you are unsure whether a VPS can transcode your file reliably, test a private or unlisted stream and monitor CPU, memory, network use, and YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.
Transcode or stream copy
Transcoding converts the file to an output format and settings you choose, but uses VPS CPU. Stream copy avoids video and audio re-encoding and reduces that encoding work, but only works when the source streams are compatible with YouTube’s current ingest requirements. The available evidence does not benchmark either approach for a particular VPS, file, or output profile. For a first setup, check the source’s codecs and use YouTube Studio’s current encoder guidance to decide; verify the result in the live preview.
Install FFmpeg and configure a paced file stream
Install FFmpeg using the package method supported by your Linux distribution, then check that the binary is available with ffmpeg -version. Package names, FFmpeg builds, and options can vary by distribution and version. The command below is a template, not a tested universal recipe: confirm option support and the required codecs and settings against your installed FFmpeg version and YouTube Studio before using it on a public stream.

FFmpeg documents -re as equivalent to -readrate 1: it reads a file at its native rate, which is useful when pacing matters for live output. Do not apply a low read rate to a genuine live or capture input; FFmpeg warns that this can cause packet loss.
Set the values from your YouTube setup
Use the exact ingest address and key from YouTube Studio. Set the video bitrate, audio bitrate, and keyframe interval to values supported by YouTube’s current encoder instructions for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send. This guide does not prescribe numeric values because they depend on the chosen output profile and are not established for your file or VPS. Keep the key out of shell history and public files.
sudo install -d -m 700 /etc/asmr-stream
sudo nano /etc/asmr-stream/stream.env
Put the values in the restricted environment file, replacing each placeholder with the value you selected. The ingest URL and stream key are secrets; do not put this file in a public web directory or version-control repository.

The following example loops one file and transcodes it to H.264 video and AAC audio. It assumes the first video and first audio streams in the file are the desired tracks. Confirm the mapping, codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval suit your source and YouTube’s current instructions. If the source lacks audio or has multiple tracks, adjust the mapping rather than expecting this example to select the right one automatically.

#!/bin/sh
set -eu
. /etc/asmr-stream/stream.env
exec /usr/bin/ffmpeg
-stream_loop -1
-re -i /srv/asmr/cooking.mp4
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -b:v "$VIDEO_BITRATE" -g "$GOP_FRAMES"
-c:a aac -b:a "$AUDIO_BITRATE"
-f flv "$INGEST_URL/$STREAM_KEY"
-stream_loop -1 asks FFmpeg to repeat the input indefinitely; -re paces file reading. The output container and encoder options are part of this example, not a certification that every FFmpeg build, source file, or YouTube configuration will accept them. If Studio shows a different endpoint format or your installed build rejects an option, stop and adapt the command to those current instructions rather than repeatedly pushing an unverified stream.
Run it under a process supervisor
A terminal session is not a reliable way to keep a process running after you disconnect. On a systemd-based VPS, a service can start FFmpeg at boot and restart it after a process exit. This helps with a process that stops, but it does not prove the stream is healthy, detect every stalled connection, fix a bad key, or guarantee recovery after YouTube or the provider interrupts service.
Save the script above as /usr/local/bin/asmr-stream, make it executable, and create a service:
sudo chmod 700 /usr/local/bin/asmr-stream
sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/asmr-stream.service
[Unit]
Description=ASMR cooking video stream to YouTube
After=network-online.target
Wants=network-online.target
[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/asmr-stream
Restart=always
RestartSec=10
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now asmr-stream.service
sudo systemctl status asmr-stream.service
Review the service output with sudo journalctl -u asmr-stream.service -f. Use YouTube Studio’s preview and stream-health indicators as well: a service that is active on the VPS is not proof that viewers are receiving a healthy stream. Before leaving it unattended, test startup after a reboot and check how you will notice a failed or unhealthy broadcast.

Check the stream and plan for interruptions
Start with an unlisted or private test if appropriate for your channel. Confirm that the image and cooking sounds are present, that the video is paced as expected, and that YouTube Studio reports a healthy incoming stream. Monitor the VPS process and logs alongside Studio; they answer different questions.
- Process supervision: systemd can restart a process that exits. It cannot correct a wrong ingest URL, invalid stream key, unsupported encoding, or every stalled network session.
- Network and provider recovery: a VPS reboot, maintenance event, route problem, or outbound restriction can interrupt the broadcast. Review provider recovery controls and alerting options.
- Human checks: decide who will respond to warnings, rights claims, and failures. “24/7” describes the intended schedule, not guaranteed uninterrupted availability.
- Archive and replay: YouTube’s qualified-watch-hours guidance says public long-form videos and archived livestreams can count toward qualified public watch hours under that rule; livestreams that are not archived are excluded. This is only one part of YouTube Partner Program eligibility.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows no incoming stream | Wrong server address, key, or endpoint formatting; FFmpeg exited before connecting. | Compare the endpoint and key with the active Studio setup, check systemctl status and the service journal, and rotate the key if it may have been exposed. |
| Studio receives a stream but reports errors or poor health | Output settings, network capacity, or VPS load may not fit the selected profile. | Compare resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Check CPU and outbound network use, then test a lower-complexity profile if the VPS is overloaded. |
| Video loops but cooking sound is missing or wrong | The file may have no audio stream, multiple audio tracks, or a different stream layout than the command assumes. | Inspect the file’s streams and adjust -map to select the intended audio track. Confirm audio in Studio’s preview. |
| The stream stops after the VPS reboots or FFmpeg exits | The service may not be enabled, may fail during startup, or may repeatedly exit. | Check systemctl is-enabled asmr-stream.service and the journal. Fix the underlying FFmpeg error; automatic restarting alone will not make an invalid configuration work. |
| Stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder | YouTube may have detected third-party material in the live stream. | Review Studio alerts and the content being broadcast. Remove material you cannot use, resolve rights issues, and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where applicable. |
| Stream runs, but monetization is denied or uncertain | Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate; repetitive or mass-produced content may also raise inauthentic-content concerns. | Make your original production and contribution clear across the channel, and review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies. Do not assume a license or a livestream format guarantees eligibility. |
Or let it run in the cloud
