To send VirtualDJ’s audio and video to YouTube, use its direct video-broadcast mode—not the separate Internet Radio Server option. In VirtualDJ, open Settings > Broadcast > Video, select YouTube, paste a stream key from YouTube Studio, and start the broadcast. Then check YouTube’s preview and LIVE status. This connects the broadcast; the available documentation does not establish how to automate a particular VirtualDJ playlist, so confirm that your intended tracks are playing before you go live.
Before you start
- A VirtualDJ installation with its audio output configured and the playlist or mix you intend to play ready.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Treat it like a password: anyone with the key may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the selected stream quality.
Test the exact kind of audio and motion you plan to use before announcing the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health. Its current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection to Google’s servers.
Get a YouTube stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or select one in the Stream tab.
- Copy its stream key. Keep it private and paste it only into VirtualDJ’s broadcast settings.
YouTube’s current workflow uses Studio and the Live Control Room. VirtualDJ’s older guide may show earlier YouTube dashboard names or screens; use the current YouTube interface to find the key. See Create a YouTube Live Stream with an Encoder.

Send VirtualDJ to YouTube
- In VirtualDJ, open Settings > Broadcast.
- Select Video, then choose YouTube as the destination.
- Paste the YouTube stream key into the Stream Key field.
- Start your playlist or mix and confirm the intended audio is reaching VirtualDJ’s master output.
- Press START BROADCAST.
- Return to YouTube Studio. Wait for the preview, confirm the audio and video look right, and verify that YouTube shows LIVE. Set or confirm the title and description in YouTube Studio.
Do a private or otherwise suitable test before a public session. Match the test to the planned audio and motion, and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators rather than relying only on the fact that VirtualDJ says it is broadcasting. YouTube’s encoder recommendations include AAC or MP3 audio and 128 Kbps for stereo audio; these are YouTube guidance figures, not a guarantee of a particular result from every VirtualDJ setup. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Choose the right broadcast mode
VirtualDJ’s Broadcast settings separate several destinations that can sound similar but serve different purposes:
| VirtualDJ mode | What it is for | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Video | Broadcasting video to social platforms, including the documented YouTube procedure | You want a YouTube Live video page with your DJ audio and visuals |
| Computer audio | Direct audio broadcast that provides a listening link | You want listeners to hear audio, not watch a YouTube video |
| Internet Radio Server | Sending audio to a hosted radio server; VirtualDJ lists Icecast in OGG format and Shoutcast in MP3 format | You already have a radio-server host and its connection details |
| Podcast | Podcast recording to VirtualDJ’s servers | You are recording a podcast rather than starting a YouTube Live broadcast |
The Internet Radio Server route is not the YouTube Live video route. VirtualDJ’s manual says the radio-server mode requires a Pro Infinity or Pro Monthly license; that requirement should not be applied to the separate YouTube procedure without further evidence. See VirtualDJ’s Broadcast manual.

Playlist and audio-routing details
Confirm playlist playback yourself
“Radio playlist” can mean a continuous queue, an automated playlist, or a DJ mix. The broadcast instructions establish how to send VirtualDJ’s output to YouTube, but do not document which playlist feature or automation setting to use. Before going live, verify that the intended tracks are loaded and that playback advances as you expect; do not assume the broadcast setting itself starts or automates a playlist.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStart with the audio output you already use
A separate audio interface is not required by the documented direct YouTube workflow. VirtualDJ supports computer audio and USB sound cards, with choices such as speaker output, master plus headphones, or separate decks. If you need an independent cue/headphone path or additional physical inputs and outputs, review VirtualDJ’s Audio Setup manual and consider a USB audio interface for DJ streaming. An interface adds routing options; it does not replace the YouTube stream key or broadcast setup.

- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
Quality and upload capacity
VirtualDJ’s YouTube guide gives approximate required upload speeds of 4–6 Mbps at 1080p, 2–4 Mbps at 720p, and about 1 Mbps at 360p. These are approximate figures from VirtualDJ’s guide, not universal guarantees. YouTube’s recommended video bitrates vary with resolution, frame rate, and codec, so a speed-test result is not interchangeable with an encoder bitrate recommendation. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings table for the quality you choose, and leave headroom for other household or studio traffic.
End the broadcast and check the replay
- When the session is over, stop the broadcast in VirtualDJ.
- Check YouTube Studio for the ended stream and its replay status.
VirtualDJ warns that after stopping, the stream is uploaded and analyzed by YouTube. Copyright checks can lead to a stream being blocked, muted, or not published. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but that does not guarantee publication when copyright review affects the video. Neither the ability to play a recording nor access to a track establishes permission to livestream or archive it.

Common problems and fixes
- No YouTube preview appears: verify the destination is Video > YouTube, not Internet Radio Server or computer-audio broadcast; check that the stream key was copied correctly and that YouTube Live is enabled.
- YouTube does not show LIVE: wait for the preview and check YouTube Studio’s stream-health messages. Confirm VirtualDJ is still broadcasting and that the selected stream in YouTube Studio matches the key you entered.
- The stream is live but silent: check that the intended deck or mix reaches VirtualDJ’s master output, then confirm the chosen audio device and channels in Audio Setup. Test the audio in YouTube’s preview before inviting viewers.
- Playback stutters or health warnings appear: compare your available upload capacity with the selected quality’s requirements, reduce quality if needed, and repeat a test with similar audio and motion.
- The replay is muted, blocked, or missing: inspect the stream’s status in YouTube Studio. VirtualDJ warns that copyright analysis can affect publication; changing broadcast routing does not resolve rights issues.
- The playlist stops or behaves differently than expected: check the playlist or playback controls separately in VirtualDJ. The YouTube broadcast procedure only routes output; it does not establish an automation setting.
