To rotate prerecorded videos on a 24/7 YouTube channel, send YouTube a continuous live feed from an encoder. For a do-it-yourself setup, use playlist-capable encoder software on a computer, connect it to a scheduled or active YouTube stream with your stream URL and stream key, and configure the playlist to repeat. The computer, power, and internet connection must remain available while it streams. Alternatively, StreamNeo can play uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud.
What you need for a 24/7 rotating stream
YouTube receives a live feed; the encoder or playout service handles the prerecorded video and its rotation. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers connecting an encoder, but it does not prescribe one universal playlist setup. Playlist controls and recovery behavior depend on the software or service you choose. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- Video files you own or are licensed to use, prepared for the encoder or cloud service.
- A software encoder on a computer, a standalone hardware encoder, or a cloud playout service.
- A YouTube stream URL and stream key, which connect the encoder to your stream.
- A playlist or playout setting configured to continue through the videos and repeat them in the desired order.
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Initial livestream activation can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and activate the feature before planning a launch; see YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Choose where the video will play and encode

Set up a local computer-and-encoder stream
- Create or schedule a stream: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. A scheduled stream appears as an upcoming event that you can promote; viewers may be able to opt in to reminders. Consult YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current interface.
- Copy the connection details: In the stream’s settings in Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your encoder. YouTube treats the key as an encoder credential: keep it private and reset it if it is exposed.
- Build the playlist in the encoder: Add the videos you have rights to use, arrange them in the intended order, and select the encoder’s repeat or loop option. Check what it does when a file ends, a file cannot be played, or the playlist reaches its end. Those behaviors vary by encoder; YouTube does not supply or guarantee the playlist.
- Configure YouTube’s stream behavior: Review the stream settings in Live Control Room. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options govern whether the stream starts or stops in response to the encoder; they do not create or rotate a video playlist. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
- Start the encoder and check stream health: Start sending the feed from the encoder, then watch Live Control Room for connection and stream-health warnings. Confirm that playback advances and returns to the first item as intended.
- Keep the local setup available: Leave the computer and network running for as long as the encoder is responsible for playback and transmission. If either is interrupted, the feed may stop; whether the encoder resumes and where it resumes depends on its own recovery and playlist features.
Plan for interruptions and long broadcasts
Do a short end-to-end test before promoting the stream. Confirm the audio and video, playlist order, loop behavior, and what happens after an interruption. Do not assume YouTube’s auto-start or auto-stop settings will restart a playlist or recover a dropped connection; these are separate behaviors, and recovery depends on the encoder or service.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that one continuous 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete archive. If you need a recording, plan separate recordings or periodic restarts as appropriate, and check YouTube’s current guidance on live-stream archiving.
Protect monetization and copyright eligibility
Livestreams are subject to YouTube’s monetization policies. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 notice renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is included. It states: “This type of content has always been ineligible for monetization under our existing policies, where creators are rewarded for original and authentic content.” The notice does not rule on every 24/7 stream, but a loop of repetitive or minimally transformed material can create monetization problems.

Reused content is assessed separately at the channel level. Permission to use a video does not by itself resolve that assessment: significant original commentary, substantive modification, or meaningful educational or entertainment value can matter. Copyright rules still apply, so use material you own or are licensed to use and review YouTube’s monetization policies.

Common problems and fixes
- Livestreaming is not available: Check channel verification and restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If you have only just enabled livestreaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Confirm that the stream URL and stream key in the encoder match the stream selected in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- The broadcast starts, but the same clip does not move on: Check the encoder’s playlist order, repeat setting, and end-of-file behavior. YouTube’s auto-start/stop controls do not manage the playlist.
- The stream stops after a computer or network interruption: Check the encoder’s reconnection and playlist-resume options. YouTube documentation does not establish one recovery behavior for all encoders.
- The expected full-day recording is missing or incomplete: YouTube’s automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; do not rely on it as a promise of a complete archive for a continuous 24/7 broadcast.
- Monetization is rejected or limited: Review the channel against YouTube’s inauthentic-content, reused-content, and copyright policies. Having permission to use footage does not automatically satisfy the reused-content assessment.
