To rotate seasonal nature videos in an always-on YouTube stream, prepare a rights-cleared set of clips and send them to a YouTube encoder that can play and loop a playlist. YouTube Studio creates and connects the live stream; it does not turn an ordinary channel playlist into a live broadcast. You can run the encoder on a computer you keep online or use a cloud service that plays uploaded videos.
What you need for a 24/7 seasonal video stream
A continuous prerecorded broadcast needs an encoder: software, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service that sends a video feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to connect an encoder, while its verified encoder directory is a place to discover options. Neither makes a regular YouTube playlist a live stream.

Make a rotation plan
Organize clips into a deliberate sequence—for example, spring birds, summer streams, autumn forests, and winter landscapes. Decide whether the rotation should follow a fixed order, repeat a shorter selection, or change by season. Those behaviors depend on the encoder or service you choose, so test them there rather than assuming YouTube will manage the sequence.

Check video and audio rights
Confirm that you own or have permission to use every video and audio track for YouTube livestreaming and archiving, including any territorial limits. Keep licenses and ownership records together. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions require content providers to have the necessary rights for live content, including applicable music rights.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says licensed content can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Archived live streams can also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams, and ask the rights holder about allowlisting when appropriate.

Choose where the encoder will run
Local software encoder
A software encoder on a computer gives you direct control over the playlist and is a practical do-it-yourself route. The computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast to continue. Plan for power, network interruptions, software restarts, and someone—or a monitoring process—to notice problems.

Hardware is an option for a fixed installation or a more involved production, but it is not required for YouTube Live. Check that the device supports your workflow, file sources, and YouTube connection method before buying; YouTube supports software encoders as well.

Cloud streaming service
A cloud service can remove the need to leave a local computer running. Check specifically that it supports uploaded prerecorded videos, the rotation and looping behavior you want, recovery after a dropped YouTube connection, and an appropriate restart and archive workflow. Build and test the rotation before going live
- Load the files. Add the seasonal clips to your chosen encoder or service and confirm that every file is supported and available to the playlist.
- Set the sequence and repeat behavior. Check the clip order, whether the playlist loops, and what happens when it reaches the end. Verify whether a missing or unreadable source file stops playback or is skipped.
- Check transitions and sound. Preview joins between clips, confirm that audio is present only where intended, and listen for abrupt level changes or silence.
- Confirm stream output settings. Use settings supported by your encoder and compatible with YouTube’s current recommendations. YouTube’s live encoder settings page documents its current guidance; do not assume a playlist tool’s defaults are suitable.
- Run a private or unlisted test. Confirm that the Live Control Room receives a stable preview and that video, audio, and rotation behave as expected before promoting a public broadcast.
- Test recovery. Simulate or safely test a dropped encoder or connection and verify how the tool reconnects, resumes playback, and handles the YouTube event. YouTube recommends testing backup encoder failover and monitoring audio and video in its live streaming tips.
Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Create and choose Go live to enter the Live Control Room.
- Choose an encoder-based stream and create or schedule the broadcast. Scheduling lets you promote the event and viewers can receive reminders.
- Open the stream settings and copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder or cloud service. YouTube’s setup instructions describe this connection.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm the broadcast appears correctly on the channel or watch page and on a mobile device.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as like a password and address for the stream: it tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. If it is exposed, reset it in the stream settings and update the encoder.
Plan bandwidth, monitoring, and archive boundaries
Leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends about 20% upload headroom beyond the total bitrate of the stream. Treat this as operating room, not a promise against interruptions; check the connection used by the actual encoder and avoid sharing its upload capacity with heavy traffic where possible. Monitor the broadcast
Check the Live Control Room after launch and keep an operator or monitoring process ready to respond to a stalled feed, missing audio, or encoder disconnect. If your workflow includes a backup encoder, test the handoff rather than assuming it works.
Understand YouTube’s automatic archive condition
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. This is the documented condition for automatic archiving, not a stated maximum live duration. For a longer-running operation, plan session restarts and confirm how your chosen encoder or service handles continuity, archive boundaries, and the viewer experience.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Check that the encoder is running, the stream URL and key are copied into the correct fields, and the stream key has not been reset. Recheck the Live Control Room preview.
- The playlist stops or skips a clip: Confirm the file is supported and accessible, then inspect playlist-end and missing-file behavior in the selected tool. Test the whole rotation, not just its first clip.
- The broadcast drops during a network interruption: Check upload capacity and the recommended headroom, then test reconnect and backup behavior. Do not assume recovery without testing it.
- A licensed song triggers a live interruption or later claim: Review the rights for the recording and composition and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting. A license does not by itself ensure uninterrupted live playback.
- The stream is live but no archive appears: Check whether the session was under 12 hours and review YouTube’s archive behavior for the stream. Confirm the encoder’s restart plan and preserve a separate source copy if you need an independent archive.
