Use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer to list podcast files in the order they should play, then send that sequence to YouTube through a continuously running encoder. The text playlist controls episode order; it does not make the stream repeat forever or recover after a failure. Those require separate loop and process-supervision choices.
What the text playlist does—and does not do
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text file of media paths and presents the listed files sequentially as one virtual input. It adjusts timestamps so the first file starts at zero and each following file begins where the previous one ends. See the FFmpeg Formats Documentation.
A list containing three episodes plays them once, in order. Repeating that sequence indefinitely, keeping an encoder alive, reconnecting after an interruption, and managing YouTube’s viewer-facing broadcast are separate parts of the system. A playlist alone does not provide any of them.
Prepare episodes that FFmpeg can concatenate
Check stream compatibility
The concat demuxer expects the files to have the same streams, including compatible codecs and time bases. Compare their audio and video stream layouts before building the playlist. Episodes with different stream structures may need to be standardized or re-encoded; the appropriate settings depend on the source files and the current encoder requirements shown for your channel in YouTube Live Control Room.

Check durations and playback order
FFmpeg uses file timing information to position each episode. Incorrect duration metadata can cause timestamp errors or artifacts. If you know a file’s correct duration and its stored duration is wrong, the concat format supports a duration directive to override it. Verify timing before relying on a long-running sequence.
Choose an explicit episode order. The demuxer follows the order of the file directives; it does not automatically sort files or discover new episodes added to a folder.
Create the text playlist

Make the first line exactly
ffconcat version 1.0. Do not add leading spaces or a byte-order mark; this exact first line enables automatic format recognition. -
Add one
filedirective per episode, in the order you want it to play:ffconcat version 1.0 file '/media/podcast/episode-001.mp4' file '/media/podcast/episode-002.mp4' file '/media/podcast/episode-003.mp4' -
Save the file and confirm that every listed path points to a readable media file. Quote or escape paths containing spaces or special characters according to FFmpeg’s concat-file syntax.

The concat demuxer’s safe option defaults to 1 and rejects unsafe paths, including many absolute-path workflows. Do not assume the example with absolute paths will be accepted under that default. If your playlist requires absolute paths or other paths rejected as unsafe, explicitly choose the appropriate FFmpeg option for your environment, such as -safe 0 when opening the concat input. That relaxes path checks, so use it only with a playlist you control and trust; do not process untrusted playlist files with relaxed safety checks.

Connect the sequence to a YouTube live stream
Confirm channel eligibility and get the current ingest settings
YouTube’s encoder-streaming setup requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, according to its current live-streaming eligibility guidance. Follow the channel-specific instructions in YouTube Live Control Room to create or select the viewer-facing live event and obtain the current ingest URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
YouTube distinguishes the incoming liveStream resource from the viewer-facing liveBroadcast resource. Its API explanation describes a 24/7-feed arrangement in which a continuing feed and separate broadcast records can have different lifecycles. That example does not mean every channel must create multiple broadcasts; use the setup appropriate to your channel and how you want viewers to access episodes.
Choose the output and verify it before leaving it unattended
When you send the concat input to YouTube, the encoder must use output settings compatible with the ingest requirements currently shown in Live Control Room. There is no one command or set of bitrate, resolution, frame-rate, audio, and keyframe values established here for arbitrary podcast files. They depend on your media, FFmpeg version, and YouTube’s current settings. Validate the output with a short private or unlisted run before making the broadcast public, and check both picture and sound at episode boundaries.
Keep the stream key out of shared scripts and public logs. If you store it in a command or service configuration, restrict access to that file and to the machine account that runs the encoder.

Make playback repeat and keep the encoder running
The playlist above describes one pass through the episodes. To keep a feed going, your outer workflow must repeat the sequence and handle encoder exits or network interruptions. These are operational requirements, not features of the concat text file. The exact looping command is media- and FFmpeg-version-dependent; validate it with your files rather than assuming one recipe will work for every podcast library.

For an always-on setup, run the encoder on a machine with reliable power and network access, monitor its output, and use process supervision so it can restart after an encoder or machine-level failure. Restarting an encoder does not guarantee that YouTube’s broadcast will remain uninterrupted or that every reconnect will succeed. A public Ubuntu VPS implementation example demonstrates separate text lists, FFmpeg output to YouTube ingest, and a restarting system service; it is an example pattern, not an official YouTube recommendation or an uptime guarantee.
Protect the episodes’ rights
Before streaming, confirm that you have rights to every element in each episode, including music, clips, artwork, and video. YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. Even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. Where applicable, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel before going live.
Rights to publish an episode as a normal upload do not necessarily resolve every live-stream or Content ID issue. Keep permission records and respond to any claim or restriction through the channel’s YouTube tools.

FFmpeg does not recognize the playlist: Check that the first line is exactly
ffconcat version 1.0, with no byte-order mark or extra leading spaces, and that the file is saved as plain text. -
FFmpeg rejects a path: Check quoting and escaping, confirm the file exists and is readable, and determine whether the default
safe=1rejects the path. Relax the safety option only for a trusted playlist you control. -
Playback breaks, drifts, or shows artifacts at an episode boundary: Compare stream structure, codecs, time bases, and duration metadata across the affected files. Standardize incompatible files or use a correct

The stream stops after the final episode: The list is a one-pass sequence. Add and validate an outer repeat strategy; the playlist itself does not loop.

The encoder exits or YouTube stops receiving video: Check the encoder logs, local power and network, ingest settings, and process supervision. A restart policy can relaunch a failed process, but it cannot guarantee an uninterrupted YouTube broadcast.

YouTube rejects the live setup: Confirm channel verification and whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, then check the channel’s current Live Control Room instructions.

A stream is replaced or interrupted despite permission: Check YouTube’s live copyright notices and ask the rights owner whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting.
