To rotate shop promo videos on YouTube Live, play the files in sequence through a live encoder or playout system and send that output to a YouTube Live event. A regular YouTube playlist is for viewers; its URL does not turn the videos into a live broadcast.
What you need before setting up the stream
- A YouTube channel eligible to go live. YouTube Help says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the person going live must be at least 16.
- A playout method. Use an encoder or system that can play your promo files in order and send the resulting live video feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes streaming gameplay, overlays, and hardware such as preamps, microphones, and cameras; it does not document a retail-video playlist setting or endorse a particular encoder for this job.
- Promo files and rights for every element. Check the video, music, voiceover, logos, and other third-party material. Rights should cover the intended live broadcast and any replay or archive. YouTube’s live-stream copyright checks can interrupt a stream even when you have a licence unless the rights owner has also added your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- A reliable local setup, if you run it in-store. A computer-based playout setup depends on the computer, source files, power, and internet connection staying available.
Prepare a promo rotation
1. Organize and review the files
Put the videos in the order you want customers to see them. Check that each file plays correctly from beginning to end, that its audio is audible, and that its promotions, prices, and dates are still current. Make sure the files and any music or other material in them are cleared for the intended broadcast and replay.
2. Set up the sequence in your encoder or playout tool
Use the tool’s file-playback or playlist capability to load the promo videos and arrange their order. Confirm how that tool handles the end of the list: if you want the rotation to continue unattended, it must be configured to repeat the sequence or otherwise return to the first file. The exact controls depend on the encoder or playout system; YouTube’s general encoder instructions do not establish a universal playlist menu or setting.

Do not confuse this file sequence with a YouTube watch playlist. A YouTube playlist helps viewers play videos; it is not, by itself, a live input. The live feed must come from the encoder or playout system.

Create and start the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream. Set the event title, description, and privacy, then save. Interface labels can change, so follow the current Studio prompts if they differ.
- Copy the event’s stream key into the encoder. Select the matching YouTube event or stream configuration in your playout tool and enter the key there. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Start the encoder output. Start playback of the prepared promo sequence and send its live output to YouTube. Allow time for YouTube to receive the feed.
- Check the incoming preview before going live. Confirm that the picture and sound are correct and that the intended promo is playing. If the preview is missing or wrong, fix the encoder or stream-key configuration before proceeding.
- Click Go Live in Live Control Room. Once the event is live, check it from a separate device or browser where practical and monitor both the broadcast and the in-store setup.
Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the live feed with a warning placeholder; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A licence alone may not prevent that platform response: YouTube says the relevant rights owner should add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- Keep a record of permissions for each promo’s footage, music, voiceover, and other third-party material.
- Confirm that permissions cover the intended live broadcast and any replay or archive, not just an in-store display or a separately uploaded video.
- If licensed material is matched, contact the rights owner about adding the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- Do not assume that a video is safe to stream just because it is publicly available online or because you bought a copy of it.
These are platform-workflow and copyright-matching considerations, not a complete statement of Indian copyright law. The YouTube guidance described here is general rather than India-specific; confirm the rights needed for your own content, territory, and use.

Local playout or cloud playout?
A local encoder can keep costs and file handling in your control, but the computer, power, source files, and network must remain available. For a shop that needs an unattended stream, evaluate any alternative by checking whether it loops uploaded files or schedules them, supports YouTube Live output and recovery after a dropped connection, is available in India, and clearly explains its limits and rights controls. Those are questions to ask of a provider, not capabilities guaranteed by YouTube.
